FreedomFarther Than Imagination ... LP
Malaco, 1978. Very Good ... $19.99
An amazing, unjustly obscure bit of southern funky soul – played with kind of a club oriented groove, and a strong nod towards middle-period Earth, Wind, & Fire – a far different vibe than a lot of the southern soul on the Malaco label! The band has some nice harmony vocals over a jazzy bass-heavy style – and the record mixes uptempo funky tracks with smoother mellower ones. Includes the dancefloor cuts "Dance Sing Along" and "Get Up And Dance" – plus great mellow numbers like "Summer Memory" and "Wake Up Your Mind". Other titles include "Farther Than Imagination", "Know You Better" and "You've Just Got To Be The One". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Banda Black Rio/MieleMiss Cheryl/Melo Do Tagarela (Rapper's Delight inst) ... 7-inch
Mr Bongo (UK), 1980. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Two killer slices of Brazilian funk! The instrumental "Miss Cheryl" is one of the trademark tunes of Banda Black Rio – a cut with these sharp, jazzy changes that are completely amazing – and which easily have BBR rivaling the sound of Earth Wind & Fire at their best! The flipside is a very cool remake of "Rapper's Delight" – one that starts out in familiar territory on the start, but then has a jazzier piano line instead of the vocal, and a wicked guitar solo in the middle! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Du-RitesGamma Ray Funk/Fish Sammich ... 7-inch
Old Maid, 2018. New Copy ... $9.99 10.98
The Du-Rites come on strong with "Gamma Ray Funk" – a tune that's much more earthly than you might imagine from its space age name – thanks to heavy drums, riffing guitar, and this slower-burning organ line that's matched by a weird vocal sample in the middle! "Fish Sammich" is sharper and a bit more upbeat – still with lots of drums and organ, but also this chatter back and forth between band members about a fish sandwich! 7-inch, Vinyl record
