✨✧ Suns Of DubFar East Dub ... LP
Onlyroots (France), 2015. New Copy Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A contemporary set, but one that comes across with a very vintage vibe – one that really hearkens back to the best underground work on the Kingston scene at the end of the 70s! The production is fuller than some of those records, but still comes across with a classic-styled warmth – especially given that most numbers feature melodica lines from Addis Pablo, who really carries on the tradition of the instrument in dub, as first started by his father Augustus Pablo many years back! Jah Bami provides vocals on most tracks – and titles include "Selassie I Wisdom", "Far East Median", "Harar Melody", "Jah Alone", "Eastern Acoustic", "Acoustic Dub", "Selassie I Wisdom Dub", and "Jah Chant Dub". James Wesley JacksonSouled Out – James Wesley Jackson Comedian ... LP
Plum/Groove Merchant, 1972. Very Good+ ... $9.99
An obscure little comedy set on Groove Merchant – featuring Chicago comedian James Wesley Jackson, who rose to fame in the early 70s for his work with Funkadelic on tour. The set was (oddly) recorded at University of Chicago, but has a hip, laidback, "talkin at ya" sort of feel that was clearly Jackson's routine for smaller clubs – and although most of the set is just him speaking, there's a small passage where he gets some backing from Harold Bean on guitar and Bernie Worrell on organ! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light ring & edge wear.)

Severn DardenSound Of My Own Voice ... LP
Mercury, 1961. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $11.99 14.99
From hipster comedian to schlocky roles in The Planet of The Apes, Severn Darden was one of the 60s more enigmatic performers. This early album has him doing intellectual standup and skits with the help of the Second City cast – including Alan Arkin, Paul Sand, and Barbara Harris. The stuff's a bit dated, but it has that nice pre-hippy early 60s intellectual camp sort of twist. LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has some surface wear.)

Dick GregoryEast & West ... LP
Colpix, 1961. Near Mint- ... $4.99
Dick Gregory raps it proud and loud – in a set of recordings that features one side recorded on the east coast, and one on the west! Gregory's still very much a comedian at this point in his career, but already his work is peppered strongly with political elements – the kind of personal, earnest approach to his material that was years ahead of its time – and which went onto open the door for countless other comedians to come! Side one was recorded at The Blue Angel, and side two at The Hungry I. LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono gold label pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear and aging, with some spotty blemishes and a light scrape at the bottom right corner.)

Melcochita Y Su ConjuntoDejen Bailar Al Loco ... LP
Mag/Vampi Soul (Spain), 1968. New Copy (reissue)... $29.99 33.99
The cover image here will give you a great idea of the vibe of the record – as Melochita was a comedian as well as a Latin musician, and brings a great sense of playful wit to the album! A number of cuts feature vocals that have this really odd, almost cartoony style that's totally great – yet there's also straighter vocal selections too, to balance things out – all while the group are delivering the kind of rock-solid grooves that make Peru's classic Mag Records material so great, and so ripe for rediscovery! The sound is almost like mid 60s New York combo Latin, but refracted as if it's come from a different dimension – on titles that include "Ahorita Va Llove", "Libre De Pecado", "Trisagio Del Soltero", "Pa Goza Candela", "No Es Un Gato", and "Los Goles De Pele". Rudy Ray MooreThis P*ssy Belongs To Me – The Second Rudy Ray Moore Album ... LP
Kent, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... $3.99
Rudy Ray Moore's second album, and almost hipper than the first – thanks to some key musical backings from The Fillmore St Soul Rebellion! The vibe here is as rough and raw as you'd expect – a no-holds-barred version of party records, with Rudy using plenty of language hardly heard this strongly on record again until the hip hop generation. The music's often mixed a bit lower than the vocals, but is still present enough to make things sound funky – and titles include the classic "Mr Big Dick", plus "The Gorillas Are Coming", "California Poetry", "Hurricane Anne Meets Dolemite", and "40 Pounds of Chitlings". Language is raw – so be warned! LP, Vinyl record album
(Green label Comedian Series pressing. Cover has a light corner bend.)

Mort SahlMort Sahl At Sunset ... LP
Fantasy, Late 50s. Very Good ... $6.99 8.99
Amazing work from one of the hippest comedians of the postwar years – not only filled with razor-sharp wit about politics and society of the period, but delivered in a long stream, without any "bits" – a real revolution that made Sahl a huge influence on standup for years to come! LP, Vinyl record album
(Red vinyl pressing. Cover has split top & bottom seams, aging.)

✨✧ Lenny BruceCarnegie Hall – February 4, 1961 ... LP
United Artists, 1961/1972. Very Good+ 3LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Some of the greatest work you could ever find by Lenny Bruce! This set is a brilliant re-creation of a live show that Lenny cut at midnight at Carnegie Hall on February 4, 1961. Unlike some of his LPs from the time - which often featured a lot of set routines – this one just has Lenny improvising freely, telling jokes, doing schtick, and bad-rapping on a variety of topics from pills, to homosexuality, to airlines, to the KKK, to VD, to other contemporary comedians. The album's one of the few to really capture Bruce's brilliance as a performer and a thinker – and the spontaneity of the very long recording is astounding. LP, Vinyl record album
(In the origial tri-fold cover, with a cutout notch and some wear on the spine.)

✨✧ Dick GregoryIn Living Black & White ... LP
Colpix, 1961. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Sharp-edged wit from a young Dick Gregory – and the kind of record that easily set the standard for countless comics to come! The tracks here are mostly free-form – still structured into a few routines, but also pretty easygoing and open – with more of the openly rapping sort of approach also used by Lenny Bruce and Mort Sahl at the time. Gregory's certainly got all the politics of the latter, focused into his own unique perspective – one that was a key force of change in the Civil Rights era. Titles include "The Congo Daily Tribune", "Comedians Of The 60s", "Thoughts On Outer Space", and "Not Poor Just Busted". LP, Vinyl record album
