Scone Cash Players —
Blast Furnace ... CD MangoHill/Colemine, 2018. New Copy ...
Out Of Stock
Hammond-heavy funk from Scone City Players – a group led by organist Adam Scone, and featuring work from The Dap-Kings and Menahan Street Band – all of whom do a fantastic job of giving the organ lines some really massive support! There's a raw vibe here that takes us back to some of the earliest work on the Desco label – great production that leaves plenty of grit in the grooves, at a level that makes the organ sound wonderful – never too clean, and set up perfectly for the breaking drums in the rhythms, which also get some great conga support for an added kick! The whole thing's great – mean, gritty instrumentals that bridge the gap between Hammond jazz of the 60s and instrumental funk – with titles that include "1% Crown", "Bliss Machine", "The Slitter", "Heavy Gauge", "Necking", "Blast Furnace", "Jet Cool", "Grinding Wheel", and "Structural Failure". Black Uhuru —
Dub Factor ... LP Mango, 1983. Very Good+ ...
Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of our top 10 dub albums of all time! This LP bridges the gap between the the low-fi, down and dirty excursions of the 70's dub era, and the later high tech dub revolution brought on by On-U, Mad Professor and Jah Shaka. The rhythms here are all first rate, drawn mostly from their Chill Out LP with a few from Red, fueled by Sly and Robbie and a cast of regulars from the Island/Mango stable. Sly & Robbie also handle the production duties, and there's no shortage of fat grooves and unrelenting rhythms, then taken to the next level with deep space echo drops and 21st century sound effects and tape edits. Includes "Ion Storm", "Big Spliff", "Boof'N'Baff'N'Biff", "Puffed Out" and "Android Rebellion". LP, Vinyl record album
