ChangeGlow Of Love ... LP
Warner, 1980. Very Good+ ... $16.99
The classic debut from Change – and the start of an amazing run of groovers in the early 80s! The set's got a tight, jazzy feel throughout – a stripped-down approach to disco modes, with the same focus on the basslines that you'd find in work by Chic – but a style that's almost even more instrumentally focused overall, given the great range of studio players who worked on the set. Yet there's also some key vocal moments, too – work by Luther Vandross that really helps make some of the best tracks sparkle, and which went onto catapult Vandross into a rich solo career on his own. The set's filled with sharp rhythms and sweet jazzy changes – and titles include the classics "The Glow Of Love" and "Searching", both with Luther, plus "Lover's Holiday", "Angel In My Pocket", and "The End". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear, some aging, and a trace of a price sticker.)

✨✧ Roberta Flack & Donny HathawayRoberta Flack Featuring Donny Hathaway ... LP
Atlantic, 1979. Very Good+ ... $9.99
Beautiful duo soul from the all-time great Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway – released right around the time of Donny's tragic passing! The set was co-produced by Eric Mercury and Flack – and it has a lot of great vocals from Roberta, with as masterfully paired with Donny as always – plus guest vocal appearances by Luther Vandross, Gwen Guthrie, and Eleanore Mills, and even Mercury, who sings a bit on one track! Titles include couple of nice Stevie Wonder tunes – "You Are My Heaven" and "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long" – plus "Stay With Me", "God Don't Like Ugly", "Only Heaven Can Wait", and "Disguises". ✨✧ Aretha FranklinJump To It ... LP
Arista, 1982. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Aretha's grooving sweetly on a record that's produced by Luther Vandross – and a damn strong one, too! Aretha wasn't the first, or the last classic soul singer to embrace the modern sounds of the early 80s, but relatively few outshined their younger peers as brilliantly as Aretha does here. She's great on this one! There's plenty of space in the arrangements for Aretha to do her thing – emoting naturally, improvising some of the vocals, and really just knocking it out of the park. Luther's production shows ample love and respect for the previous generation of soul, while still sounding right at home in '82 – with some timeless ballads along with contemporary chart-ready groovers. Titles include "Jump To It", "Love Me Right", "If She Don't Want Your Lovin'", "This Is For Real", "It's Just Your Love", "I Want To Make It Up To You" and "It's Just Your Thing". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light staining along the opening.)

✨✧ Quincy JonesSounds & Stuff Like That ... LP
A&M, 1978. Very Good- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The Dude at the height of his powers – serving up a smooth blend of soul and jazz that set the standard for an entire generation! As with some of his other 70s albums, Quincy's working here with a host of great talents that make the record sizzle – guests that include Hubert Laws, Herbie Hancock, Patti Austin, Luther Vandross, Gwen Guthrie, Eric Gale, and others – all of whom put their egos aside, and bring their best bits to the table working under Quincy's guidance! The album includes a great version of "Superwoman", plus the tracks "Tell Me A Bedtime Story", "Love Me By Name", and "Love, I Never Had it So Good". LP, Vinyl record album
(In the embossed cover, includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has some surface and edge wear, lightly bent corners, flaking on the spine and a name in marker on the front and labels.)

✨✧ Cheryl LynnInstant Love ... LP
Columbia, 1982. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Cheryl Lynn and Luther Vandross – a tremendous combination that makes for one heck of a great record! Luther arranged and produced the entire set – and he does a great job here of pushing Cheryl Lynn into more upbeat territory without getting too poppy or schmaltzy! In a way, the record shows traces of some of Luther's best work for other artists (and himself) in the late 70s – an approach to club that's still plenty darn soulful, and which really lets Lynn open up with tremendous vocals. Titles include a famous remake of "If This World Were Mine" – done as a duet with Luther – plus "I Just Wanna Be Your Fantasy", "Instant Love", "Sleep Walkin", "Day After Day", "Look Before You Leap", and "Say You'll Be Mine". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

✨✧ David BowieYoung Americans ... LP
RCA, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A brilliant soul album! That's right, we said SOUL album! Bowie was at the height of his Ziggy Stardust fame when this one was recorded – a drastic left-turn in styles, forged during a point in his American tour when he could take a break, head to Philly, plug in at the Sigma Sound Studios, and come up with some fantastic little soul tunes, thanks to help from Luther Vandross! The album sparkles with the best sound of Luther's early work – and you'll hear more than a bit of Luther's work on his own, and his tunes with Gregg Diamond on the set. Features the sublime tracks "Win", "Fascination", "Right", "Somebody Up There Likes Me", and "Can You Hear Me" – as well as the hits "Young Americans" and "Fame". LP, Vinyl record album
(Tan label pressing in the textured cover, includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a split top seam, and light ring, edge and surface wear.)
