Lord Astor is Astor Silva, the Brazilian trombone player who grooved hard on bossa sessions like the famous Os Ipanemas record. This one's from a few years before than one, and has Astor leading a tight group through some jazzy samba tunes with an upbeat dancing style. The best tracks feature strong instrumental solos on trombone and alto sax – almost in a mode that would be taken up by bossa jazz groups a few years later – and the harder percussion brings a nice edge to the session that you wouldn't expect.
