A couple of smooth numbers by this fatastic harmony group who only ever issued a couple singles on the MGM subsidiary Lion. Both numbers hit a righteous sweet soul harmony groove over some great soaring production touches! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Includes "Peggy Sue", "Lion Sleeps Tonight", "Willy And The Hand Jive", "Everyday", "Rag Doll", and "Ain't Nuthin' But A House Party". 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Includes unused sheet of jukebox tags & mini cover inserts.)
Beautiful uptempo Philly stuff from Luther Vandross, back when he managed to make stuff with a disco groove, but that also had the feel of a great soul record. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in an Atlantic/Atco Group sleeve, with bent corners and a small tear in the die-cut. Label on stereo side has an X in pen.)
One of James Brown's undisputed classics! "I Got You" begins with a very famous scream and an oof – and then rolls into a great little groove that's been used a gazillion times in ads, but which still sounds pretty darn great. The flip's a nice one too – a bit mellower, but still deeply soulful! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Blue label pressing. In a King sleeve with light wear & staining. One label has some wear.)
Classic! Way before his mainstream success, Aaron was a supremely excellent soul singer – and this amazing single will always be one of his greatest legacies! Sure, you've heard "Tell It Like It Is" a million times on the radio – but blast it out of this raw 45, and the song will pop your head off! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Rare work by Garland – recorded away from Chicago, in Philly, at Sigma Sound, with production and songwriting by Bunny Sigler and Phil Hurtt, and arrangements by Norman Harris and Ronnie Baker. The combination of Green's bluesy vocals with a smooth Philly soul approach works very nicely – especially on "Love Is What We Came Here For", a stretched out, very mellow track that we like a lot! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Common, yes, but it's still a classic, and an original 45 with two great cuts from the soundtrack! "Shaft" is that track that you've heard a million times – but which is still an undeniable funky pleasure year after year. "Cafe Reggios" is a smooth guitar-based instrumental, with a dope O'Donel Levy kind of groove that's just great! 7-inch, Vinyl record
"Watching You" is a tight little pop tune from Slave – perhaps less of a full funk workout than some of their other tracks, but with some sweetly compressed vocals that give the number a nice nice hook! Even nicer is "Dreamin" – a bit more subdued, with a sly soulful approach! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Purple label pressing with SP suffix, in a Cotillion sleeve.)
