CommonResurrection (2CD deluxe edition – with box and poster) ... CD
Relativity/Get On Down, 1994. New Copy 2CD ... $13.99 20.98
One of the best hip hop albums of all time – given the remastered, deluxe edition treatment! In 1994 when everyone seemed to be turning hardcore, Common Sense wasn't having it. Introspective tales of growing up and living on the South Side that fit perfectly with No ID's mellow production and spiced up with a couple guest appearances by Y-Not aka Twilight Tone. A classic LP, solid all the way through. Being in Chicago, people always ask us for this one, but the original is often impossible to find, even here. This incredible 2CD edition comes in classy box – each disc in its own gatefold style sleeve, with liner notes by Brian Coleman, plus a full sized poster. Disc one is the full original album, with "I Used To Love HER.","Book Of Life", "Chapter 13 (Rich Man vs. Poor Man)", "Nuthin' To Do", "In My Own World (Check The Method)", "Maintaining", "Communism", "Watermelon" and more. Disc 2 collects the 12" singles from the period, with "Resurrection" (Large Professor remix, Extra P remix, Large Professor remix instrumental and Extra P remix instrumental), "Resurrection 95", "Communism" (acapella and instrumental), and "I Used To Love HER" (acapella and instrumental). CD
(A beautiful box set edition of one of greatest hip hop albums of the past 20 years!)

DwellasLast Shall Be First ... LP
Stimulated/Loud, 2000. Near Mint- 2LP ... $19.99
Definitely an improvement over their first LP. Like a lot of Loud artists lately, they're not aiming for club hits but they're not deep underground either. Some nice hard edged production – mostly from Nick Wiz, but also Rockwilder, Larger Professor and others – with vocals to match. Stand out cuts include "Ill Collabo" featuring Pharoahe Monche & Prince Po, "On The Run", "Da Ruckus", and "Verbal Slaughter" featuring Inspectah Deck. Also guest appearances from Cocoa Brovas, DV Alias Khrist, and Large Professor. LP, Vinyl record album

Main SourceBreaking Atoms (30th Anniversary 2LP remastered edition) ... LP
Wild Pitch, 1991. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $22.99 24.99
A record that no hip hop home should be without – the one and only album from Main Source, but a set that's more than strong enough to stand next to the best from contemporaries like De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, and Black Sheep! Like all three of those groups, these guys have a way of bringing together fresh rhythms and samples, sharp-edged writing, and a keen sense of wit – all part of that next-generation level of intellectual hip hop that made them so groundbreaking at the time – and which still makes this album a fantastic delight all these many years later! The album introduced the world to the genius of Large Professor – and continues to shine for decades, thanks to tunes that include "Snake Eyes", "Looking At The Front Door", "Live At The Barbecue", "Just A Friendly Game Of Baseball", "Peace Is Not The Word To Play", "Watch Roger Do His Thang", "He Got So Much Soul (He Don't Need No Music)", and "Just Hangin Out". Features bonus tracks "Time", "Fakin The Funk", "Fakin The Funk (Kobakov & Good The 6 rmx)", and "Peace Is Not The Word To Play (rmx)". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Pete Rock & INICenter Of Attention – Hip Hop Underground Soul Classics ... LP
Vinyl Digital, Mid 90s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A once lost relic from hip hop's golden mid 90s era! This is the second of two albums from Pete Rock's archives of great unissue material to originally see release thanks to the knowledgeable crate diggers at BBE/Rapster, recorded during the period Pete Rock & CL Smooth were nearing the end of their contract with Elektra. Pete started putting together some side projects and a healthy archive of top notch productions featuring young & hungry MCs, some of which remained under wraps for years, and achieved legendary status. Of course this set's built on the staple Soul Brother #1 sound: rich and heavy with dense bass, propulsive beats, strong jazz and soul samples, and a tight over all sound, but the INI MC's are no slouch on the mic either, leaving us wonder why this only saw the light of day as a handful of promo singles. Rob O and Grap Luva handle the rhymes on the set with guest appearances by Q-Tip and Large Professor on "To Each His Own". 16 tracks in all, including the intro: "No More Words", "Step Up", "Think Twice", "Square One", "The Life I Live", "Krossroads", "Fakin' Jax", "What You Say", "Mind Over Matter", "Don't You Love It", "Microphone Wanderlust" and more! ✨✧ Gayle Sherwood MageeRobert Altman's Soundtracks – Film Music & Sound From MASH To A Prairie Home Companion (hardcover) ... Book
Oxford University Press, 2014. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Director Robert Altman has always had a special place for music in his films – from his strong use of Leonard Cohen in McCabe & Mrs Miller, to the famous song in MASH, to the range of intersecting styles that make Nashville such a great movie! Yet there's also much deeper relationships between music and image in Altman's films – which are traced very well in this volume – presented in a rich academic study of the movies, the director, and the larger scene in which he worked – all with way more detail than the usual mainstream film book. The author is a professor in musicology, but certainly knows her way around film as well – and the hardcover book is 295 pages, with a few black and white images. Book

✨✧ John Williams/Henry ManciniPenelope/Bachelor In Paradise (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Film Score Monthly, 1961/1966. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
2 fab fab soundtracks – both from swinging 60s sex comedies, and presented here with a huge amount of extra bonus tracks! Penelope is a really groovy soundtrack from Johnny Williams – scored for a goofy heist film starring Natalie Wood, and featuring a wonderful blend of jazzy, bossa, and harmony-styled tunes! The whole thing's extremely lively – and although Williams is working with a larger orchestra on most of the record, there's also some bouncing electric bass on the bottom of most cuts – and nice use of jazzy solo instruments. The title theme "Penelope" is sung in a sunshine harmony mode by The Pennypipers, a group assembled for the record – and other tracks include "Poolside", "The Girl In The Yellow Dress", "Girl Chase", "The Mad Professor", "Penny's Arcade", and "At The Art Museum". Bachelor In Paradise is an even more obscure recording – penned by Henry Mancini for an early 60s Bob Hope comedy, and done with a range of jazzy styles that's every bit in the best Mancini mode – but which also opens up to some of the modder, more swinging modes of the time! The whole thing's wonderfully jazzy – done with a rich, full sound that's great – emotive at times, but always light and playful, and ready to break out into a groovy tune at the drop of a hat! Titles include "Welcome", "Main Title", "Drum Effects/Bachelor In Paradise", "Try It Tonight", and "Top Shelf". Plus, Penelope is presented here with both 18 tracks from the film, plus the 12 that were on the album – plus 6 more bonus cuts too! And Bachelor is featured with 17 tracks from the movie, plus 10 more bonus tracks! The 2CD set features 63 tracks in all – along with amazing notes and images! CD
(Limited to 3,000 copies.)
