✨✧ ToquinhoBoca Da Noite ... LP
RGE (Brazil), 1974. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A fantastic album from Toquinho – one of the best that he cut during the 70s! This album's got a much more stripped-down sound than others – with a soulful mix of vocals and spare acoustic guitar that sounds somewhere between the early 70s work of Baden Powell and Terry Callier – and which is way different than the bossa revival work Toquinho cut with Vinicius De Moraes! There's some larger arrangements lurking at the back of most tracks – but these are kept clean, and relatively spare – so that the strongest focus is on Toquinho's voice and guitar. Titles include a sparkling remake of "Asa Branca", done with a spare style that still retains the grandiose quality of the song – plus "Sem Enredo", "Boca Da Noite", "1969, Aeroporto Do Galeo", "Noite Longa", and "Lembrando Josh White". Quentin Coaxum, 2021. New Copy ... $11.99 30.00
A really lovely album from trumpeter Quentin Coaxum – a player we really loved on his debut, but who's grown tremendously as a writer and leader since that time! Coaxum's working here in a mode that's very well-arranged, but still nicely loose and open – this soulful flow that really marks the progression of tracks in a mighty nice way – in a lineup that includes the leader's own solos on trumpet, glowing next to work from Dustin Laurenzi on tenor, Julius Tucker on bass, Cliff Wallace on drums, Andrew Vogt and Joshua Griffin on bass, and Jeff Swanson and Anders Nordstrom on guitars. There's a gentle glow to the whole thing – very unified, thanks in part to the richness of Quentin's trumpet lines – but also with a certain spirit as the group works through shorter tracks that clearly are meant to resonate as a larger whole. Titles include "Selah Song", "Some Things Have Changed", "Constellation", "Words", "Intimacy", "East Boogie Rundown", "Goodbye Alton", and "Forward". LP, Vinyl record album
