Great Jazz TrioClub New Yorker ... CD
Denon (Japan), 1983. Used ... $9.99
A slightly different setting than usual for the Great Jazz Trio – in that about half of this record features a violin added to the trio lineup, bringing a slight "with strings" quality to a few of the mellower tunes and ballads! The trio here features Hank Jones on piano at the helm, along with bass by Eddie Gomez and drums from Jimmy Cobb – both subtle accompanists who really get into the spirit of the session, which is mostly comprised of Gershwin tunes, plus 2 more from Rogers & Hart. Violin is by Lewis Eley, and titles include "Isn't It Romantic", "S'Wonderful", "Our Love Is Here To Stay", "I've Got A Crush On You", "Manhattan", and "Someone To Watch Over Me". CD
(Out of print, early Japanese pressing. Inner pages of the booklet have some age spots.)

✨✧ Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All StarsHoward Rumsey's Lighthouse All Stars Vol 3 ... CD
Contemporary/OJC, 1953. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the first albums to ever bear the name of Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars – a well-chosen moniker for a record to feature the talents of leading 50s west coasters like Shorty Rogers, Jimmy Giuffre, Bob Cooper, Shelly Manne, Milt Bernhardt, and Herb Geller. The format here is a bit more freewheeling than some other Lighthouse sessions – as the mood changes up from track to track – offering up some great Latin on a few tunes (one with Jack Costanzo and another with Carlos Vidal on percussion), a bit of R&B tenor wailing, and some more of the usual Four Brothers-styled horn lines. Titles include "Mambo Los Feliz", "Jazz Invention", "Witch Doctor", "Swing Shift", "Snap The Whip", "Mexican Passport", and "Viva Zapata No 1". CD
