Iggy PopLust For Life ... CD
Virgin, 1977. Used ... $3.99
Iggy Pop may have left The Stooges behind, but he's lost none of his edge – and really finds a new level of solo greatness on this sublime classic from the 70s! The set was produced by David Bowie, who also plays piano on the set – and has Carlos Alamar adding in some guitar – and the overall sound has that raw Berlin mode you might find on some of he headiest tracks on Heroes – kind of "Joe The Lion" meets the gritty truth of Iggy's Detroit! The title cut is maybe the best-known Iggy Pop tune ever – used in countless films and commercials – but the whole thing's great, and a brilliant new focus for Mr Pop's genius. Titles include "Lust For Life", "The Passenger", "Some Weird Sin", "Neighborhood Threat", "Success", "Fall In Love With Me", and "Turn Blue". CD

✨✧ Iggy PopIdiot ... CD
RCA, 1977. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Iggy's first proper solo record, and a strange morass of junkie desperation and guttural punk funk! The Idiot is the ultimately the culmination of a very smart decision to move away from the guitar roar of the Stooges and closer to the sounds his longtime champion David Bowie was experimenting with at the time, with a little bit of Lou Reed for good measure – but make no mistakes, this is Iggy's show. It's as fascinating overall as it is impressive on a more visceral level, with heavy bass rhythms and keys intergral to the sound, and weary latenight storytelling that trips you out on contact. All tunes co-written by Bowie, who would go on to make a lot of money off "China Girl" a few years into the 80s when the world was more ready for it, plus the classic "Nightclubbing", "Sister Midnight", "Baby", "Dum, Dum Boys", "Tiny Girls" and "Mass Production". ✨✧ Iggy PopNew Values (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Arista, 1979. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the great earlier solo records from Iggy – capping off the 70s here with a bang! New Values finds Iggy a real peak point for edgy, yet accessible songwriting – a talent he no doubt honed in the preceding few years of working with David Bowie. The production is great here, too – with the rugged guitar and bugged out vocals you'd expect from Iggy, but with some cool little synthesizer touches here and there, that actually sound fresh to this day – as opposed to new wave-y. We value this one as highly as just about any Iggy Pop album. Includes "Tell Me A Story", "New Values", the classic "I'm Bored", "Five Foot One", "Angel", "The Endless Sea", "Don't Look Down", "African Man", "Billy Is A Runaway" and more. CD

✨✧ Iggy PopIggy Pop – The Bowie Years (7CD set – with 40-page hardcover book) ... CD
Capitol, Late 1970s. Used 7CD ... Out Of Stock
Iggy Pop's mid-to-late 70s era working David Bowie as a co-writer, producer and incredible creative foil – in a 7CD box set! It includes Iggy's first 2 and to this day all-time great solo albums The Idiot and Lust For Life, neither of which seem to have aged a day since 1977, a full CD of alternate mixes and out-takes, the original classic live album TV Eye – 1977 that compiled soundboard recordings from the '77 tour – and perhaps this box set's deepest dug treasure trove – 3CDs of complete sets from that same 1977 tour at London's Rainbow Theatre, The Agora in Cleveland, and at Mantra Studios in Chicago! While the Idiot and Lust Of Life showed Iggy to be a lot more versatile of a front man and songwriter to anyone who might not have seen past the manic firebrand howling out front for The Stooges, his live material from that era is pretty amazing too, embracing the Stooges catalog with some of the more innovative style of his early solo albums –bigger arrangements, woozy keyboards and soulful back up singers among them without sacrificing any of the...well, we gotta say it...any of the raw power. Nearly as ferocious as ever but with a real sense of style and craft – and there's a wealth of it collected here for the first time ever. Also includes a 40-page hardback book! CD

✨✧ StoogesFunhouse ... CD
Elektra, 1970. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The second album from the young Iggy Pop and The Stooges – and the record where the whole thing really comes together – a set that was an instant legend, even though it hardly sold many copies at the time! Instead, the album's like work by the Velvet Underground – probably every copy that was sold went into the hands of someone who took the music as a key influence, then went on to create something amazing of their own – drawing key inspiration from Iggy's vocals, the guitar work of Ron Asheton, and the overall frenzy of the album's approach. Titles include the paranoid genius of "TV Eye", the romping "Down On The Street", the insane "Fun House", and the cuts "Loose", "Dirt", "1970", and "LA Blues". CD

✨✧ StoogesStooges ... CD
Elektra, 1969. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A record that no home should be without – and a stunning set that still carries all the raw power it did way back in 1969! The album's an apocalyptic vision of the future – a future it helped to shape, give its influence over the years – and from start to finish, the whole thing is brilliant – from the raw energy of the band, to the sneering lyrics of Iggy Pop, to the perfect production by John Cale – who's opening up a whole new side of his genius with his studio work here. The set begins with the boldly declarative "1969" – maybe one of our favorite Stooges songs ever – then moves into the landmark "I Wanna Be Your Dog", over to the ten minute freakout of "We Will Fall", to the classic "No Fun", through the cuts "Real Cool Time", "Ann", "Not Right", and "Little Doll". Imitated by many, but never done this well again – and a record that will most likely still be blowing the minds of our grandkids! CD

✨✧ VariousWhat Goes On – The Songs Of Lou Reed ... CD
Ace (UK), Late 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s/2010s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A wide-ranging set, and one that really gets at the influence of the music of Lou Reed over the years – as the collection brings together songs penned by Reed from back in the day, but which continue to get new handling by a variety of artists in more recent decades! As some folks know, Lou first started out as a songwriter – knocking out tunes for no-name groups issued on budget labels – and although the music of the Velvet Underground and Reed's solo work could sometimes get way-out, at the core there were always all these really great songs – the kinds of tunes that are featured here, on interpretations from a really great array of different groups and singers! As with other titles in this series from Ace, the notes are great – lots of history and other details too – to accompany a set list of 20 titles that include "What Goes On" by Bryan Ferry, "Pale Blue Eyes" by Alejandro Escovedo, "Run Run Run" by Echo & The Bunnymen, "I'm Waiting For The Man" by Beck, "We Are The People" by Iggy Pop, "Rock & Roll" by Detroit, "Sunday Morning" by Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs, "I'll Be Your Mirror" by The Primitives, "New Age" by Rachel Sweet, "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams" by Nico, "Perfect Day" by Kirsty MacColl & Evan Dando, "Vicious" by Lloyd Cole, "Train Round The Bend" by The Soft Boys, "Femme Fatale" by Tracey Thorn, "I'm Set Free" by Yo La Tengo, "Walk On The Wild Side" by The Dynamics, and "All Tomorrow's Parties" by June Tabor & Oyster Band. ✨✧ VariousHere It Is – A Tribute To Leonard Cohen ... CD
Blue Note, 2022. Used ... Out Of Stock
The music of Leonard Cohen, but served up in a style that's quite different than you might expect – yet that's maybe no surprise, as right from the start, Cohen's magical songs were already getting interpretations by artists in a range of different styles! The setting here is Blue Note, but the artists are a wider range than those you'd normally hear on the label – with a mix of rock and soul talents next to jazz artists – on titles that include "If It Be Your Will" by Mavis Staples, "Suzanne" by Gregory Porter, "Steer Your Way" by Norah Jones, "Avalanche" by Immanuel Wilkins, "Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye" by Luciana Souza, "Bird On The Wire" by Bill Frisell, "Famous Blue Raincoat" by Nathaniel Rateliff, "Coming Back To You" by James Taylor, "Here It Is" by Peter Gabriel, and "You Want It Darker" by Iggy Pop. ✨✧ David BowieAladdin Sane – 30th Anniversary 2CD Edition ... CD
EMI, 1973. Used 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An incredible version of one of our favorite David Bowie albums ever! Aladdin Sane was a real turning point for Bowie – recorded on the heels of the tremendously popular Ziggy Stardust album, but really pushing the boundaries past the more straight-ahead rock and glam of that record. Instead of just sitting on his laurels, Bowie tripped out into a wilder, weirder world with this one – mixing together elements of some of the baroque arrangements of early records, with the meaner leaner sound of the 70s – populating the songs with freaks, weirdos, and odd characters that gave the whole thing a really creepy edge. The whole thing's an oft-overlooked gem that, to us, is truly one of Bowie's most magical moments – and it's finally given its due here, in a beautiful 2CD package that features a whole disc worth of bonus material, plus a hard book-like cover, and a big booklet of goodies! Original titles include "Drive In Saturday", "Panic In Detroit", "Aladdin Sane", "Watch That Man", "The Jean Genie", "The Prettiest Star", "Time", and "Lady Grinning Soul" – and bonus tracks include "John I'm Only Dancing (sax version)", "Time (single edit)", "All The Young Dudes", and live recordings of "Drive In Saturday", "Life On Mars", "John I'm Only Dancing", and "Jean Genie". Mike Ladd, wearer of many brands of hats, drops some high concept hip hop on the broad minded Big Dada imprint, more or less a follow up to the Infesticons project started a few years back. You know the drill, post electro beats that refuse to admit they're jiggy, that'll appeal to fans of Anti Pop and fellow travellers in the left field world of the new school. ✨✧ VariousDream Babes Vol 4 – Go Girl – 22 Brit Girl Classics From The 60s ... CD
RPM (UK), Late 60s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great mix of jangle pop and female vocal numbers from 60s England – the 4th in RPM's great series of Dream Babes, and one of the best yet! The groove here runs along the lines of work by some of the more famous British singers of the era – Petula Clark, Shirley Bassey, Sandi Shaw, and others – but often has some nice left-field touches that make the tunes a bit more exciting and less familiar, thanks to some especially great production. Titles include "Gonna Give Him Some Love" and "I Want That Boy" by The Chantelles, "Gonna Make Him Mine" and "Love Hit Me" by The Orchids, "Love Is Wonderful" by Paula Parfitt, "Here I Am" by Linda Thorson, "When I Think Of You" by Twiggy, "That Lonely Feeling" by The McKinleys, "Reviewing The Situation" by Jacki Bond, and "I Can Hear Music" by The Breakaways. 22 tracks – and great notes!
