Never-heard work from Pussy – a UK group who grew out of the ashes of the earlier Jerusalem project and took over their recording contract for Deram – even though the label only issued a single 45 by Pussy at the time! This package brings together all the lost work by the quartet, and the sounds here are truly tremendous – certainly in the hard rock side of the spectrum, but also with a sneering quality that might almost make them punk precursors, at least in attitude – because these guys are maybe a lot more proficient on their instrument than groups from that scene. Songs are mostly short and super tight – and the vocals have this wonderful production – kind of flanged-out, but also never glammy either. Paul Dean sings lead, and the rest of the group includes Ray Sparrow, Brian Geoff, Bob Cooke, and
Ian Gillan on a bit of backing vocals and piano.
Gillan handled production, too – and titles include "Take Me Home", "Riding Down The Red Flag", "Pig Mansion", "Feline Woman", "The Knife", "Moonshine", "IFO", "Lady Ella", "Ska Child", "I Keep Remembering You", "A Place In The Sky", and "The Knife".
