Gloria GaynorLove Tracks ... LP
Polydor, 1979. Very Good ... $3.99
THE lasting classic from Gloria Gaynor – the record that contains her tremendous hit "I Will Survive", and a great batch of disco grooves overall! The album's got a simple, honest sort of approach, despite its release in an era of overblown dancefloor sets – and arranger Freddie Perren does a great job of balancing all the elements here – hitting strong on the rhythms, but mixing in bits of strings from Gene Page and others – all in a sound that's round, warm, and surprisingly soulful, despite the big crossover fame of the hit on the record. In addition to a nice long take of "I Will Survive", other tracks include "Anybody Wanna Party?", "Please, Be There", "I Said Yes", and "You Can Exit". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cut corner, edge wear.)

✨✧ Gloria GaynorNever Can Say Goodbye ... LP
MGM, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
The start of a very successful run for Gloria Gaynor – a seminal bit of crossover 70s soul – one that perfectly linked the dancefloor with the airwaves, and managed to take on more than a few living rooms as well! Gloria's not entirely in full blown disco-diva mode yet, and works here with a soaring Philly-styled groove – of the sort you'd hear with groups like First Choice or Three Degrees – almost grounded a bit in earlier female soul, especially in the vocals and overall changes in the grooves – yet sparkled up plenty with some fuller, richer 70s arrangements. Those are handled by Norman Harris and Harold Wheeler – who do plenty to warm up the production by Meco – and the set includes the stunning 6 minute version of Gloria's big hit "Never Can Say Goodbye", plus "All I Need Is Your Sweet Lovin", "We Belong Together", "Real Good People", "Honey Bee", and "Reach Out I'll Be There". ✨✧ Gloria GaynorGloria Gaynor's Park Avenue Sound ... LP
Polydor, 1978. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
An overlooked groover from Gloria Gaynor – warm, wonderful, and filled with some great Philly touches! Sure, the record's got a Park Avenue address, but it's also got some great arrangements from Norman Harris, Jack Faith, and Ron Kersey – all of whom bring in a bit more warmth than on other Gaynor records, and wrap up her vocals in a sweetly gliding sound! This approach is heard to classic effect on the sublime "This Love Affair" – worth the price of the record alone – but it also keeps on going nicely through a set list that includes "Part Time Love", "For The First Time In My Life", "You're All I Need To Get By", "After The Lovin", and "Kidnapped". ✨✧ Gloria GaynorExperience Gloria Gaynor ... LP
MGM, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Warmly gliding soul from Gloria Gaynor – a great little set that has none of the cliches that sometimes mar our memory of Gloria's work, awash in tight arrangements that mix equal part disco and mainstream soul! Much of the record is upbeat, but never over the top – and even the longer tracks have a hook-heavy simplicity that's really great – a bit like the move into club that some of the Motown artists were also making at the time. Meco handled some of the production and arrangements, and titles include Casanova Brown", "(If You Want It) Do It Yourself", "How High The Moon", "The Prettiest Face I've Ever Seen", "What'll I Do", "Tell Me How", "I'm Still Yours", and "Walk On By". ✨✧ VariousDisco Discharge – Disco Fever USA (white vinyl pressing) ... LP
Edsel/Demon (UK), Late 1970s/Early 1980s. New Copy 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Don't worry about the discharge, and don't let the fever get you down – as this set's the cure, not the cause – a really well-done collection of disco gems from the glory days of the US scene – not pop cuts or radio hits, but the kind of underground tracks that kept things burning strong, long after Studio 54 closed their doors! The set's a reworking of an earlier collection done 20 years back by the great label Harmless – and it follows a similar strong set list that goes way past the obvious – with killer cuts that include "Baby Let Me Kiss You" by Fern Kinney, "Space Bass" by Slick, "Cisselin Hot" by Chuck Cissel, "Yester Me Yester You Yesterday" by Boys Town Gang, "One Love" by Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch, "Hot Shot" by Karen Young, "Dance" by Paradise Express, "Risky Changes" by Bionic Boogie, "Life Is A Song Worth Singing" by Teddy Pendergrass, "Like An Eagle" by Dennis Parker, "Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away" by Gloria Gaynor, and the great instrumental of "Boogie Wonderland" by Earth Wind & Fire.
