Buddah, Mid 70s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
By the time she reached the Buddah label, Gladys Knight had already recorded for many years and other labels, but that didn't stop her and The Pips from having an extremely successful run during their stay there – as is evidenced by the great selection of hits on this set! The album includes the super-huge "Midnight Train To Georgia" and "Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me", plus the sophisticated soul reworking of "Try To Remember" mixed with "The Way We Were". Also includes 2 nice Curtis Mayfield cuts – "Make Yours A Happy Home" and "On & On"! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsClaudine – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Buddah, 1974. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A wonderful mid 70s set from Gladys Knight & The Pips – a soundtrack date written and produced by Curtis Mayfield, who really helps bring a lot of depth to their music! Curtis really helps Knight and the group get out of some of their hit cliches of the 70s, and find some hipper space for the setting of the film – a mixture of some of the mellower tracks that Gladys' always sparkles on, mixed with some badder-stepping numbers that further deepen the groove – and which has kept the album alive over the years, thanks to some key hip hop samples. Tracks include the sublime "The Makings Of You", plus "Mr Welfare Man", "To Be Invisible", "Claudine Theme", "On and On", and "Hold On". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsVisions ... LP
Columbia, 1983. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Sweet 80s groove from Gladys Knight & The Pips – just the kind of record that shows why the group kept going strong for so many years! The classic approach is still very firmly intact – Gladys' wonderful lead, soaring out over the Pips' warm harmonies – a vocal power that so many other groups could never get this right – evolved amazingly here from the early soul years of the group's origins. The approach of the set is lean and smooth, yet turns out to be a perfect fit for the maturing Knight/Pips sound – a mode that still keeps them right out in front of the pack, with a great mix of grooving and sophistication. Titles include "Save The Overtime (For Me)", "Heaven Sent", "When You're Far Away", "Just Be My Lover", "Don't Make Me Run Away", "Ain't No Greater Love", "O La De Da", "You're Number One", and the longstanding classic "Hero (Wind Beneath My Wings)". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

✨✧ Gladys Knight & The Pips2nd Anniversary ... LP
Buddah, 1975. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
The second anniversary of Gladys Knight & The Pips on Buddah Records – and an album that really shows the new level of depth the group were able to hit at the label! A key factor on the album is work by Eugene McDaniels – who produced the record, and wrote a good number of tracks too – really pushing Gladys and the group into righteous territory they wouldn't have touched a few years before – a deeper groove that really matches some of their best soundtrack material of the mid 70s! Gladys really stretches out wonderfully with her leads – and the Pips provide just the right sort of warm backdrop to hold things together. Titles include "Street Brother", "At Every End There's A Beginning", "Summer Sun", "Feel Like Making Love", and "Money". LP, Vinyl record album
(Vinyl plays with a click on the first track. Cover has light edge & ring wear.)

✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsImagination ... LP
Buddah, 1973. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A pivotal album for Gladys Knight and group – as the record features their super-huge hit "The Midnight Train To Georgia", a landmark track that not only had a catchy pop hook, but which spoke volumes about African-American migration in the postwar years. The track's one of those you've heard a million times, but it's got a strength that still holds up tremendously. Part of this is due to great production work by Tony Camillo – who handled arrangements and studio work on about half the tracks – and part is due to Jim Weatherly, who wrote the song, and about half the others on the album. The whole album's great – one of the best Buddah Records moments for the group – and titles include "I've Got To Use My Imagination", "Window Raising Granny", "Where Peaceful Waters Flow", "Once In A Lifetime Thing", "Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me", and "Storms Of Trouble Times". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has minimal wear, light aging, and bumped corners.)

✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsLittle Knight Music ... LP
SOUL, 1975. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Gladys Knight's last album for Motown subsidiary SOUL – a collection of work from a variety of different sessions, put together to compete with her shift to Buddah Records in the mid 70s! The set features a range of numbers, often in a mode that's a bit more uptempo and righteous than some of the mellower Gladys Knight work that was dominating her hits at the time – almost as if they'd been holding back on this stuff, to let her develop more of a southern soul ballad identity. Arrangements are by Paul Riser, David Van DePitte, and Robert White – and often show a bit of the growing 70s dancefloor sensibility creeping into Motown during the time. Gladys' vocals are still plenty real soul – soaring out over the tracks – and titles include "In The Middle Of The Road", "Come Together", "All I Need Is A Miracle", "Put A Little Love In Your Heart", and "Can You Give Me Love With A Guarantee". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cutout notch, ring and edge wear, bumped corners, small center split at the spine, heavily bent at the top left, and bent a bit at the spine and bottom right.)

✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsPipe Dreams – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Buddah, 1976. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
After hitting big as a singer on the soundtrack for Claudine, Gladys Knight finally got her chance in front of the camera for Pipe Dreams – a record that featured her both as the star on film and on the soundtrack! The styles here are a bit more wider-ranging than the usual 70s soundtrack of this type – a bit of ballad soul, mellow numbers, and more – arranged by Dominic Frontiere and Michael Masser in styles that are a bit like some of Knight's own albums of the time. We like especially the jazzy vocalesey number "Pot Of Jazz", a nice number that deserves further discovery on a compilation – and other cuts include "Find A Way", "Follow My Dreams", "So Sad The Song", and "Alaskan Pipeline". ✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsNeither One Of Us ... LP
SOUL, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A key moment in the career of Gladys Knight & The Pips – and a record that opens the group up to a whole new sound for the 70s! When Gladys Knight started out as a raw R&B-ish singer in the early 60s, nobody would have expected her to have such staying power – and to become one of the 70s best interpreters of mellow ballads. This album's more than proof that Knight had plenty of staying power, and the title hit "Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye)" went onto become one of the decade's biggest mellow soul tracks. It's backed up here by a number of nice tracks that have a harder soul sound, and which are arranged by some of Motown's best talents of the early 70s. Titles include "It's Gotta Be That Way", "This Child Needs Its Father", "And This Is Love", "Don't It Make You Feel Guilty", and a cover of "Who Is She To You". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsI Feel A Song ... LP
Buddah, 1974. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Rock-solid Buddah work from Gladys Knight & The Pips – still pretty righteous on the vocal tip, but often a bit fuller and more polished than before! Knight shows a great talent for a mature ballad here – no big hits, but that's part of the charm of the set – as there's a personal, intimate quality to the tunes that also comes from the less-familiar nature of the lyrics. A few more tunes get a bit uptempo – to be expected when Tony Camillo's helping with production and arrangements – and the album features the great sample cut "Don't Burn Down The Bridge", plus the tracks "I Feel A Song", "Seconds", "Love Finds Its Own Way", "Better Go Your Way", "The Goings Up & The Comings Down", "Tenderness Is His Way", and "The Need To Be". Brenda & The TabulationsDry Your Eyes ... LP
Dionn, 1967. Very Good ... $36.99 43.99
Incredible early work from Brenda & The Tabulations – one of the best male/female soul groups of their era, yet one that's often sadly overlooked! This album will more than display why the group are so great – as they have a unique quality that's soft and sweet, yet also deeply soulful at the same time – making full use of the lead vocals of Brenda Payton, but supporting them with some rich male harmony backings from the rest of the Tabulations. And although the one gal, three guy format is one used by Ruby & The Romantics and Gladys Knight & The Pips, Brenda's take on the format is quite different – more like female soul outright, with some guy soul touches – and often done in a heartbreaking east coast harmony mode! Titles include the group's big early hit "Dry Your Eyes", plus other good originals like "The Wash", "Just Once in a Lifetime", and "Hey Boy". Also with "Stay Together Young Lovers", and "Who's Lovin You" – plus a wonderful remake of "God Only Knows". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover is great. Vinyl has a mark that clicks on one track on side one, and for a bit of another on side two. Otherwise nice and clean.)

Gladys KnightMiss Gladys Knight (Japanese pressing) ... LP
Buddah, 1978. Very Good+ ... $6.99
Gladys Knight steps out on her own – in her very first solo album, after years of recording with The Pips! The change has maybe a bit more focus on Knight's incredible vocals in the lead, but the approach is also strongly similar to the best work with The Pips at the same period – with the Jim Gilstrap singers providing backup vocals, but at a lighter level, with less harmonies that soar out – so that Knight really carries the tunes in a wonderful way. Most tracks are in that mellow mode that Gladys was really doing so well in the 70s – and titles include "I'm Coming Home Again", "I'm Still Caught Up With You", "The Way It Was", "I'll Take a Melody", "Love Gives You The Power", and "Sail Away/Freedom For The Stallion". LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese promo pressing, with obi and insert. Vinyl has worn grooves on "We Don't Make Each Other Laugh Anymore" that plays with noise for a few spins. Cover has wear, aging, and is bent at the top right. Obi has some tears and is held with tape.)

Fantastic harmony soul – in a class by itself! Ruby's lovely voice is right out front in the mix, and she's backed up by the all-male Romantics with a sweet soaring tone that blows away other male/female combos like Gladys Knight & The Pips or The Sensations. This greatest hits includes the group's crossover monster "Our Day Will Come", plus a whole bunch of other lesser-known gems, like "Young Wings Can Fly", "Nobody But My Baby", "Baby Come Home", "Your Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore", and "Hey There Lonely Boy".
