Georgie Sweet's just starting out, but we've got a feeling that we're going to be hearing from the singer plenty in years to come – as she's one of the freshest soul music talents we've heard from the UK scene in years – bristling with unique creative energy on this massive debut! Georgie's something of a protege of Deborah Jordan – and some of her work here echoes the vibe of Jordan's music, but takes off into much more cosmic directions too – loads of heavy keyboards on the set, and spacey touches on some of the lyrics – set to beats that are spaced-out, never too heavy, and which keep things in this midtempo mode that really lets the vocals flow! Beautiful work from the vastly under-rated Georgie Auld - a tenorist with a sweet tone, but one who could also play with a nice edge when he wanted! The set brings to light work that Auld recorded for the Discovery label in 1949, and the Coral label in the years 1951 and 1952 – featuring a total of 24 tracks, most of which were only ever issued on 78 rpm recordings! The group's are largeish on most of the tracks – 8 to 10 players usually – and a few of the tracks feature Georgie blowing with the Jud Conlon Rhythmaires.
