Elza Soares & MiltinhoElza Miltinho E Samba Vol 3 ... LP
Odeon (Brazil), 1969. Good ... $6.99
The rare 3rd album of samba tunes cut by the team of Elza Soares and Miltino – done in a lively, playful style that has the two of them trading vocals on some longer numbers – then moving off into some solo material on their own. Backings are upbeat and jazzy, handled by Nelsinho, with some assistance from Lyrio Panicali – and titles include Miltinho singing "Samba Da Cor" and "Um Samba Pra Ela"; Elza singing "Julgar E Missao Divina" and "Madrugada Vai Chegar"; and the pair of them working through 3 tasty medley tracks! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original mono pressing, without the plastic outer wrap. Cover has tape remnant on all sides, some wear & aging. Labels have some wear & pen.)

✨✧ Elza SoaresVoltei ... LP
RGE/Discobertas (Brazil), 1988. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Later release from Elza Soares, although the music here is plenty classic all the way through, and very much in the rootsy samba modes she was serving up in the 70s! Instrumentation is mostly acoustic at the core – lots of lively percussion and guitar, mixed with some occasional contemporary touches on a few numbers, jazzing things up with a bit warmth, and some light touches of strings that serve well to underscore the maturity that Elza brings to the lyrics. Titles include "Plenitude", "Doce Acalanto", "Amor Sublime", "Nesse Trem", "Coisas Da Gente", and "Ansia Louca". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some ringwear and a promo stamp.)

✨✧ Elza SoaresSe Acaso Voce Chegasse (Imperial) ... LP
Imperial (Brazil), 1971. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
A record that's as striking as the image on the cover – a wonderful set that mixes the soulful vocals of the great Elza Soares with some larger samba backings from Oswaldo Borba – a leader we don't know at all, but who really knocks it out of the park on the set! Elza always seems to do best in settings that have a more unique sort of hybrid – the less-traditional modes that EMI/Odeon was using to really transform Brazilian music during this generation! The record's subtitle refers to "a bossa negra de Elza Soares", and the groove's definitely the main force that makes the record so strong – as you'll hear on titles that include "Era Bom", "Teleco-Teco No 2", "Cartao De Visita", "Sal E Pimenta", "Dedo Duro", and "Samba Em Copa". ✨✧ Elza Soares & MiltinhoElza Miltinho E Samba ... LP
Odeon (Brazil), 1967. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
The first pairing of Elza Soares and Miltinho is a delight throughout – a set that follows on the Brazilian duet style of the time, but seems to handle things with even more charm and flair throughout – never just forcing the two singers together in the company of a tune, but really letting them open up and expand the songs with their personal touches. Although singing, it almost feels like they're speaking to each other at points – and with lively samba backings supporting their work, the sound is plenty groovy throughout. Lyrio Panicali handled the music – and titles include "Com Que Roupa", "Todo Dia E Dia", "Antonico", "Mal De Amor", "Se Voce Visse", and a number of other tunes done in "pout-pourri" style. VariousTudo Ben – Jorge Ben Covered ... LP
Mr Bongo (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 2LP ... $27.99 32.99
A stunning tribute to the music of Jorge Ben – a host of classic covers from the 60s and 70s, all of which share Jorge's love for an upbeat, soulful groove! The set's exploding with life and energy – that new sort of groove that Ben first unleashed on Brazilian music in the 60s, which was quickly taken up by most of his contemporaries – as you'll hear on the wonderful tunes in this set! There's a ridiculous amount of music on the collection – over two dozen tunes, a number of which we'd never heard before – and although Jorge doesn't sing on any of them, the vocalists are all clearly inspired by his sense of warmth and soul. Every cut's a groover – and titles include "Quem Mandou" by Osmar Milito, "Zazueira" by Wilson Simonal, "Pulo Pulo" by Elza Soares, "Se Voce Quiser Mas Sem Bronquear" by Doris Monteiro, "Tenha Fe Pois Amanha Um Lindo Dia Vai Nascer" and "La Vem Salgueiro" by Os Originais Do Samba, "Carolina Carol Bela" by Os Brazoes, "Speed" by Sonia Santos, "Rei Do Maracatu" by Cyro Aguiar, "Cosa Nostra" by Os Mutreteiros Grilados, "Fio Maravilha" by Marijo, "Pais Tropical" by Wilson Simonal, and "Mas Que Nada" by Elza Soares.
