Black IceBlack Ice EP Vol 1 – I'm Up In Heaven/Depth Charge/A Different Space/Vambience ... 12-inch
Velocity/Large, 1992. New Copy (reissue)... $12.99
Not the Black Ice you might know as a funk group from the 70s – but a killer deep house outfit from Chicago – part of that great second wave of Windy City house music that was much richer than the first! Black Ice seem to re-borrow club elements that the New York scene was using during the period – some of the New Jersey or Paradise Garage return to more soulful modes, after the earliest, stripped-down sound of house – just the right keyboard inflections, vocal refrains, or jazzy instrumental moments – used sparingly enough to be part of the Chicago legacy. Four tracks in all – "I'm Up In Heaven", "Depth Charge", "Vambience", and "A Different Space". 12-inch, Vinyl record

Hip hop being the cross-cultural/trans-global unifying musical ambassador that it is, "LA Counting" finds SoCal independent legend produced by Paris-based Union on the main track – with instrumental and acapella – plus remixes by Exile, Dibi$e and Uann Kesz. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Cloud OneDisco Juice/Disco Charleston Hopscotch ... 12-inch
P&P, 1977. New Copy (reissue)... $12.99 14.98
Fantastic spacey club tracks from this legendary group! We know that the cut "Disco Juice" has been reissued elsewhere, but this excellent reproduction of the original 12" single features the full original mix – and it's a monstrous blend of jazzy vibes, moogy keyboards, and pounding funky dancefloor beats! The flipside is just as great, too – and even though it's got a stupid name, the cut's got a killer hook and this storming instrumental groove that mixes spacey moog and heavy keyboards in a wonderful way! Essential – and the best single so far in the P&P reissue series! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ VariousKwaito EP – The Roots Of South African House – 1990 to 1994 ... 12-inch
Egoli (Netherlands), Early 90s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Three great tracks we've never heard before – all under-circulated gems from the early 90s scene in South Africa! First up is "Abobaby" by Patleo 4U – a tune that has this cool deep-toned vocal chorus that's almost brooding, which leads into a bassy rhythm topped by a soaring female vocal that's a nice contrast with the lead! Next is the snapping groove of "Phinda Mizi" by Mara Dee – a tune that has a midtempo funky snare sort of rhythm, which trades back and forth with these nicely ringing samples in a way that's simple, but extremely effective! Mara Dee is back on the flip with "Uphetehe Yphi" – a tune that has an equally slow groove, but this warm keyboard part that bounces along beautifully – almost like an underground cut from the Basement Boys. Malume closes the set with "Uxam" – a track that's almost a house update of older Afro Funk modes – complete with a sort of call/response between a lead male singer and female backup! 12-inch, Vinyl record
