✨✧ King TubbyConcrete Jungle Dub ... CD
Dub Store (Japan), 1976. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A 70s dub masterpiece – and one of the records that really set the standard for the genre! Producer Winston Riley first rose to reggae fame in the Techniques, but here he's a master of the instrumental mode – working with a group of all-star musicians at Harry J's and King Tubby's Studio – all to craft these spare, bassy grooves that are completely out of sight! There's a sense of understatement here that separates the music from later dub work – and the record's a great reminder that sometimes less is more – especially when it comes to exploring the deeper sides of the sonic spectrum. Titles include "Chalist Dub", "Staga Dub", "Dread Dub", "Mistry Maker Dub", "Red Gold & Green Dub", "Peace & Love Dub", and "Who Is The Dub". CD

Bunny WailerDubd'sco Vol 1 ... CD
Solomonic/Dub Store (Japan), 1978. New Copy ... $14.99 15.98
A fantastic underground gem from Bunny Wailer – one of the rare albums issued on his heady Solomonic label – an imprint that featured some of his most righteous material on record! As you'd guess from the title and the somewhat unprepossessing cover, the style here is heavily dubby – and includes material from the Black Heart Man album, plus other singles, all mixed up nicely by Bunny to some completely head-nodding rhythms! There's almost a sense of magik flowing through the mix – as Bunny crafts sonic spells on titles that include "Roots Raddics", "Battering Down", "Armadedon", "Fig Tree", "Dream Land", "Love Fire", and "Rasta Man". VariousRare & Unreleased Ska Recordings From Federal Records Vaults 1964/1965 ... CD
Federal/Dub Store (Japan), Mid 60s. New Copy ... $14.99 15.98
Killer work from a time when the Jamaican music scene was really coming into its own – served up here from the vaults of Federal Records, who were one of the key imprints helping capture the new Kingston sounds of the 60s! Federal already had roots in Jamaican jazz and other styles, which they definitely bring to bear on the recording of these tunes – tracks that are very different than later revival ska, and even some of the late 60s Jamaican hits – and which often have a gritty quality that tie them much more strongly to the earlier styles that led to the music. As the package indicates, all tracks here are rare, and some are unreleased – with titles that include "Blue Ska" by The Cavaliers, "One Ska One Ounce Of Weed One Beer" by Clive Wilson & The Skatalites, "Third Man Theme" by Granville Williams, "What To Do" by Federal Singers, "Come Along With Me" by The Maytals & Don Drummond, "String Of Pearls" by Audley Williams, "I Man" by The Cavaliers, "Coppa" by The Maytals & Don Drummond, "Love Is All I Have" by The Federal Singers, and "Dip Them" by The Cavaliers. ✨✧ VariousFashion Records – Style & Fashion – A-Class Top Notch Hi Fi Sounds In Fine Style ... CD
Fashion/Soul Jazz (UK), 1980s/1990s. New Copy 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
An overdue look at London's Fashion Records label – an important reggae imprint that was to the British scene of the late 20th Century what Trojan was in the 70s! But Fashion also had a quality that did them one better – they recorded and issued work that originated in the UK – documenting a reggae scene that had grown to be as important as Kingston by that time – thanks to trans-Atlantic flows of vinyl, and a fair bit of immigration from the West Indies too! The music here is strongly in the styles that really exploded in London during the stretch – and early digital dancehall material is offset by sharp-edged jungle rhythms, and warmed up by some lover's rock too – but always with a quality that's earthy, and very close to the streets. The label was run out of the basement of the Dub Vendor record store, which gave them a great ear for changes in sound and styles – and they've got a fascinating story that's fully documented here in the notes, in best Soul Jazz fashion. Titles include "Let's Dub It Up" by Dee Sharp, "Dance Pon De Corner" by Papa Face featuring Red Man, "Shot Fe Bust (Marvellous Cain rmx)" by Poison Chang, "Wikkeda" by General Levy & Hard N Pure, "Played By This Ya Sound" by Bunny General, "You're Nicked" by Laurel & Hardy, "Rising To The Top" by Dee Sharp, "To The Bump" by Papa Face & Bionic Rhona, "As You See It" by Cutty Ranks, "Bubble With I" by Asher Senator, "Ruffest Gun Ark (DJ rap mix)" by Top Cat, "DJ Business" by Papa San, "You'll Never Need Somebody" by Janice Walker, "DJ Jamboree" by Papa Face with Keith Douglas, "Heat" by General Levy, and "Sweet Soul Rocking" by Carlton Lewis. KoopWaltz For Koop – Alternative Takes ... CD
Compost/Quango, 2003. Used ... $4.99
One of our favorite albums of the early 00's – remixed! Waltz For Koop was an amazing debut for Koop – a set of tunes that drew heavily from real jazz of the 60s and 70s, and which fit perfectly in a tradition of modal jazz grooves that stretched back to the glory days of the European MPS scene! The tracks were all instant classics that helped restore our faith in modern music – and here, they're getting some really loving treatment from a host of remixers that include some of the best of the current European club jazz underground. Titles include "Baby (O Malicious rmx)", "Tonight (Nicola Conte new jazz version)", "Summer (Markus Enochson rmx)", "Bright Nights (Rima techno chimp dub)", "Summer Sun (Carlito rmx)", "Waltz For Koop (DJ Patife rmx)", "Relaxin At Club F***n (Dorfmeister vs Madrid De Los Austrias rmx)", and "Modal Mile (2 Banks Of 4 rmx)".
