✨✧ Tom Scott & The California DreamersHoneysuckle Breeze ... LP
Impulse/Get On Down, 1967. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A beautifully groovy album from the early days of one of our favorite reed players! Tom Scott's tenor, alto and soprano saxes, plus some flute, are set amidst a very groovy group that includes percussion, guitar, keyboards, sitar, and even some occasional vocalizing – for a sound that's got a solid jazz base, but lots of groovy Now Sound flourishes! Scott's searing solos rip through the whole thing with a nice cool sound – an uncommonly sunny, beautifully grooving psych era Impulse set that's as sweet as can be! Scott's California Dreamers and other personnel include sitar player Bill Plummer, bass player Carol Kaye, percussionist Emil Richards, guitarist Glen Campbell and others – and the album's filled with great cuts like "Honeysuckle Breeze", "Naima", "Today", "North", "Blues For Hari", and "Deliver Me". Nice! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousInfluences – Compiled And Mixed By DJ Marky (2CD set) ... CD
BBE (UK), 1960s/1970s/1980s. New Copy ... $7.99
A really wonderful compilation tunes that influenced Sao Paolo's DJ Marky – who maybe known more for drum & bass and broken beats, but here assembles an eclectic 2CD set of classic Brazilian tunes, 70s soul, disco, funk, and floor shaking club grooves – a straight up collection of classics from across the groovy spectrum! If there's a hurdle that we hope compilations of this sort will clear, it's to connect a diverse platter of sounds into a cohesive groove, and Marky couldn't have done a finer job – giving us a clear window into his personal influences and crafting an excellent batch of music for us! Bossa, house, soul, funk and modern grooves blended perfectly! Most of the tunes are from the late 60s through the early 80s, with a few neo classics from later years – with a very subtle, nicely done mix of the tunes on the first CD that keeps a most of the original tunes intact – with 16 tracks including "Aquarius" by Cal Tjader, "These Eyes" by The Guess Who, "Samba Blim" by Tamba 4, "Funkanova" by Wood, Brass & Steel", "Look Ahead" by Aquarian Dream, "Here's To You" by Skyy and much more. Disc 2 is unmixed, with many of the standouts from the first disc and several other tracks including "It's All In Mr Magic's Wand" by Whodini, "Balanca Pema" by Ronald Mesquita, "Sugar Rock" by One Way, "Thousand Finger Man" by Candido, "Adeus, Maria Fulo" by Os Mutantes, "Honeysuckle Breeze" by Tom Scott & The California Dreamers and more!
