Serge BlennerLa Vogue ... CD
Sky/Bureau B (Germany), 1980. New Copy ... $8.99
A really cool keyboard set from Serge Blenner – issued during the glory days of the German Sky Records label, but with a vibe that's a bit different than most of their other releases! Blenner works on an assortment of keyboard and electronic sources – but with a sound that's maybe more Sheffield than Hamburg, especially as there's some great use of darkness and distortion in the mix – less clean electronics than some of his Sky contemporaries, which creates a very cool, moody sound throughout! The album has eight instrumental tracks – each a numbered "Phrase" by Serge. CD

Der PlanDie Peitsche Des Lebens ... CD
Ata Tak/Bureau B (Germany), 1991. New Copy ... $16.99
The last album in the cool classic run of German gems from Der Plan – a group that few folks paid attention to at the time, but who really gave the world some wonderful electronic music in the post-punk years! These guys really distill all the best sides of the German electronic experiments of the 70s – serving things up in shorter tunes that are filled with unusual twists and turns, and which also have plenty of offbeat vocals and a nice sense of humor too – almost like little audio cartoons, with a quality that's far more long-lasting than some of their contemporaries! Despite the 1991 date of the record, the style here is every bit as great as the group's earliest music – and like most of their music, there's hardly any connection to a real epoch in sound – as the whole thing's so darn unique. Titles include "El Cigarro", "Kleiner Junge", "Wir Babies", "Vive Le Vie", "Alter Mann", "Es Werde Licht", and "Spiel 77". CD
Also available Die Peitsche Des Lebens ... LP 22.99

Der PlanEs Ist Eine Fremde Und Seltsame Welt ... CD
Ata Tak/Bureau B (Germany), 1987. New Copy ... $16.99
The title translates to "it's a strange and peculiar world" – and there's maybe no better introduction to the mad electronic music of this wonderful German trio from the 80s! Der Plan were part of that special small slice of the German new wave – groups who didn't rely on darkness or angst to get their message across – but instead mixed together whimsical elements with musical experimentation – often in ways that were years ahead of their time! Imagine Kraftwerk scoring the music for cartoons, and you'd get part of the idea here – but that's hardly the start of the sonic delights within – as the album features short tracks in many different varieties – exploding with innovation at each twist and turn. Titles include "1 Mann 1 Ball", "Bleib Gold", "Kennen Sie Koln", "Frisch Verliebt", "Komm Zurick", "Get Out", and "Ich Hab Den Jordan Gesehn". CD

RoedeliusSelbstportrait – Wahre Liebe ... CD
Sky/Bureau B (Germany), 2020. New Copy ... $16.99 18.99
A beautiful contemporary album that follows the same spirit of the vintage Selbsportrait records by Roedelius – and one that uses the same sort of vintage instrumentation too – given that the master of spare musical space works here on Fender Rhodes, Farfisa, Roland and Korg keyboards! The songs are wonderful – lyrical in a subtle way, and with maybe a slight bit more variation than some of the Ambient work by Brian Eno – although still that similar balance between silence and sound, which is why Roedelius was such a great partner with Eno on a few projects back in the day. Selections vary in length from 36 seconds to 14 minutes – and titles include "Aus Weilter Ferne", "Nahwarme", "Ebenfalls", "Gerne", "Spiel Im Wind", "Geruhsam", and "Im Kreisel". CD

RoedeliusTape Archive Essence 1973 to 1978 ... CD
Bureau B (Germany), Mid 70s. New Copy ... $16.99 18.98
Rare archival recordings from the legendary Hans Joachim Roedelius – material that's maybe even more creative and experimental than his Sky Records albums of the late 70s! The work here was all recorded on a Revox tape recorder, and has been pulled from the archives for special inclusion in this package – a set that goes all the way back to 1973, and offers up a great preface to some of the more commercially-circulated material we know and love – electronics that sometimes have more of an edge, and also tie Roedelius back to an earlier era of German experimentation. This collection offers the "essence" of the previous 3LP box – some of the best tracks, with titles that include "Bock Auf Rock", "Langmarschieren", "Rokkokko", "Unterwegs", "Skizze 3 Von By This River", "Lied Am Morgen", "Springende Inspiration", and "Nachtens In Forst". Conrad SchnitzlerCon ... CD
Paragon/Bureau B (Germany), 1978. New Copy ... $16.99
Beautiful early solo work from Conrad Schnitzler – a set that's kind of a distillation of the ideas he brought to Tangerine Dream at the start, but distilled down into much more personal territory, with a very different vibe than the sound of that group at the time! The music is every bit as electronic as you'd expect, but it's often quite poetic too – occasionally with some of the spareness of the Sky Records side of the spectrum – but with maybe more of the darkness and more experimental qualities you'd expect from Schnitzler –almost echoes of the Bowie/Eno instrumental experiments of the period. Titles include "Zug", "Metall I", "Black Nails", "Ballet Statique", and "Electric Garden". CD

✨✧ Conrad SchnitzlerParacon – Paragon Sessions Outtakes 1978/1979 ... CD
Bureau B (Germany), Late 70s. New Copy ... $16.99
Fantastic spacey sounds from Conrad Schnitzler – all recorded at Peter Baumann's Paragon Studios, right around the same time as Schnitzler's trio of Con albums in the late 70s! The music here is similar to those, but more experimental too – very minimal, and played with live electronic instrumentation – but at a level that often has waves and patterns repeating in a great way – maybe showing the later generation that true giants like Conrad never needed programs to make the best of their music! The set features 10 tracks in all – all very different, and in the best minimalist German electronic modes of the late 70s. CD

Jimi TenorNY Hel Barca ... CD
Bureau B (Germany), 1990s/Early 2000s. New Copy 2CD ... $9.99
A collection of early work from Jimi Tenor – an artist who's maybe known best these days for his spiritual jazz and funk recordings, but one who sounded very different at the time of this material! Jimi issued much of this music on the Warp label back in the 90s – and although there's some funky elements, there's also a fair bit electronic elements too – much more in the old school Warp mode, but evolving in a surprising way over time – particularly on some of the late 90s material, in which Jimi might use larger orchestrations, or bits of reeds – warming things up, and taking directions that would mature much more strongly in the 21st Century. In a way, a lot of these cuts are a nice link with an earlier generation of electronic European experimentation – of the sort the Bureau B label usually reissues – and titles include "Spell", "Tesla", "Year Of The Apocalypse", "Xinotepe Heat", "Take Me Baby", "My Mind", "Natural Cosmic Relief", "A Daughter Of The Snow", "Shore Hotel", "Outta Space", "Unmentionables", and "Rubberdressing". ✨✧ VariousSowas Von Egal 2 – German Synth Wave Underground 1981 to 1984 ... LP
Bureau B (Germany), Early 80s. New Copy ... $22.99
A really fantastic look at the German underground of the post-punk years – served up by a label who knows the territory more than anyone else! For over a decade, Bureau B have done a great job of taking us back to the hippest German work of the 70s and 80s – particularly the more electronic side of the spectrum – and for this sweet little set, they dig even deeper – offering up work by a number of artists who would never see a full length reissue, with cuts from rare singles and tapes – awash in raw basslines, beats, and keyboards! The vibe is very cold wave, but with some nice post-punk moments too – on titles that include "Mir Geht Es Danke Gut" by Plastiktanz, "Steig Den Luis Trenker" by 4712, "Name Und Distanz" by Christian Kneisel, "Tanz Ins Gluck" by Die Neue Weltmacht, "Alles Oder Nichts" by Mark Montan, "Warum Mussen Autos Fahren" by Partner Eins, "Fred Der Ritter" by Vono, "New Wave" by Rolf Jungklaus, and "Sage Nichts" by Casino Mariteam. ✨✧ VariousSprechen Sie Pop? ... CD
Bureau B (Germany), Late 60s/Early 70s. Used ... $8.99
German grooves galore – a great little set that falls nicely into In-Kraut territory, but which also features some fresh bits too! The vintage here is mostly late 60s and early 70s – and the tracks are almost all German language numbers with a mod sort of groove – bits of funk at times, straighter soul rhythms at others – often with instrumentation and production effects that are plenty mindblowing, even if you don't understand the lyrics! Notes are both in English and German – helping for a good hook into the music – and some of the artists here are from other Euro locales, but sing in German for the tracks on the set. Titles include "Hier Stand Die Sonne Hoch" by Illes, "Ein Kleines Herz Auf Der Haut" by Sylvie Vartan, "Wassermann Und Fisch" by France Gall, "Winter In Kanada" by Elisa Gabbai, "Sie War Ooh" by Joe Sassin, "Sommerwind" by Sandie Shaw, "Du Hast Mich Lieb" by Die Skalden, "Er Heibt Peter" by Katja Hollander, "Die Gammlerin" by Juliette Greco, and "Mir Geht Es Gut" by Paul Anka. Bureau B (Germany), 1960s/1970s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderfully groovy set of Christmas tracks – one done in a style very similar to the Get Easy Snow compilations – as you might guess from the title! The selection here is great – with a few perennial favorites, a few rare gems, and a great middle stretch of wonderful bits from some of the grooviest artists of the 60s and 70s – a great antidote to some of the too-played holiday music you might hear during the 12th month of the year! Titles include "Santa Claus Is Definitely Hear To Stay" by James Brown, "Close Your Mouth It's Christmas" by Free Design, "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" by Jimmy McGriff, "Snow" by Claudine Longet, "Black Christmas" by The Emotions, "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" by The Temptations, "Christmas Gift" by Margie Joseph, "Winter Warm" by Bob Crewe Generation, "Snow Flakes" by The Ventures, "Winter Symphony" by The Beach Boys, "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway, "Children Go Where I Send Thee" by Kenny Burrell, "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" by Ray Anthony & His Bookends, "Swinging Christmas" by Helmut Zacharias, and "Jingo Jango" by Bert Kaempfert. ✨✧ Serge BlennerMagazin Frivole ... LP
Sky/Bureau B (Germany), 1981. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Overlooked electronic genius from Serge Blenner – an artist whose name and title might sound a bit French, but who recorded this set in the Hamburg underground at the start of the 80s! The work here is a nice bridge between earlier Sky Records modes and the rising tide of the German new wave – especially those corners of that scene that have gotten a lot of attention in the newly-titled cold wave generation of the time! The tunes are all instrumental, and nice and spare – with maybe elements that hearken back to the analogue electronics of very early Human League and Cabaret Voltaire – tuneful and song-based, but still really moody and dark too. Titles include "Derivatif", "Magazin Frivole", "Envoutement", "A L'Ouest", and "Polyphase". LP, Vinyl record album

Sublime electronics from Conrad Schnitzler – one of his excellent "color" albums of private recordings from the 70s – and maybe one of the most incredible of the bunch! As Asmus Tietchens says in the notes, "the future has already happened" – which may well be true, given the music on the disc – as Schnitzler works spare analogue electronics with a poetic, evocative quality that's still light years ahead of any of his contemporaries – and most of his followers too!
