Gene ChandlerTwo Sides Of Gene Chandler ... LP
Brunswick, 1969. Very Good- ... $7.99
A fantastic lost album by the great Gene Chandler – and one of his most sophisticated soul documents! The record was Gene's last album for Brunswick – issued shortly before Gene scored big once again on Mercury, which is why it's probably often lost in the shuffle of time. The record's got some incredibly dark material that shows a different side of Gene than you'd expect from earlier hits – including the incredible track "Suicide", which is a magnificent "Iceman" track in the Chicago tradition, that features the main character contemplating suicide as a means of dealing with his sorrow. Other titles include "If You Would Love Me", "The Sun Died", "This Bitter Earth", "Eleanor Rigby", and a remake of "Can I Change My Mind". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover is nice!)

Terry Gibbs/Milt BucknerJazz On The Air (10 inch LP) ... LP
Brunswick, 1953. Very Good+ ... $11.99
Rare Brunswick work from Terry Gibbs – a groovy 10" LP, split with the group of Milt Buckner! Side one and part of side two feature Terry leading a very cool group – a combo with Gibbs on vibes, plus piano, bass, and drums – and a young Don Elliott on mellophone, making a key appearance here, and giving the record a nicely swinging sound! Gibbs' vibes have that warmly chromatic sound we love so much from this time – and titles include "Out Of Nowhere", "What's New", "Now Is The Time", and "Bernie's Tune". The remaining tracks feature the trio of Milt Buckner – with Milt on organ, Bernie Mackey on guitar, and Cornelius Thomas on drums. The straight trio plays on "Russian Lullaby" – and Gibbs joins them on "Trapped". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover is in nice shape!)

Brunswick, Early 60s. Very Good+ ... $6.99
Weird record that has Jackie singing a bunch of different stuff, from a bunch of different sources, but still staying mostly in his Brunswick soul bag. Dick Jacobs did the arrangements, and the tracks include "Pianissimo", "Forever And A Day", "My Empty Arms", and "Hearts". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono black spectrum label pressing with deep groove.)

✨✧ Terry Gibbs/Mary Lou WilliamsJazztime USA – Vol 1 ... LP
Brunswick, Early 50s. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One side of work by Gibbs' sextet – with Don Elliott on mellophone, Howard McGhee on trumpet, and Horace Silver or Billy Taylor on piano. One side by the orchestra of Mary Lou Williams – with Morris Lane on tenor! LP, Vinyl record album
(Heavy original pressing with deep groove! Vinyl is great – and cover has one small mark from a sticker on the opening edge, but is great overall too.)

✨✧ Vaughan MasonJammin Big Guitar/Rockin Big Guitar ... 12-inch
Brunswick, 1981. Very Good- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A monster rollerskating track! "Big Guitar" is almost every bit as great as "Bounce Rock Skate Roll" – Vaughan's other classic from the time, and it's especially as good on the "rockin" side, which is an instrumental with some great Chris Stein-esque riffing, and a nice little "Rapture" groove! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Young & CompanyI Like (What You're Doing To Me) (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
Brunswick, 1980. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An excellent groover from the late Brunswick years – and the standout classic from this youthful club ensemble! The track's got a great snapping groove that's almost in the rollerskating mode – guitars riffing along with the groove, and vocals falling right into place with an incredibly catchy hook! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Brunswick, 1979. Good ... Out Of Stock
What can we say? This is a classic! The track has a monster roller skating groove that's been sampled more than a few times over the years – but which still sounds incredible on its own! Both parts are great – and even though the single's pretty darn long, you still never want it to end! 12-inch, Vinyl record

ImaginationsImaginations ... LP
20th Century, Mid 70s. Very Good+ ... $19.99
An excellent group soul from Chicago – and no wonder, since The Imaginations were previously Brighter Side Of Darknes, a sublime falsetto harmony group who had a huge hit in 1972 with "Love Jones". This record's very much in the vein of that song – but also features a maturation of the group's emotions and harmonies, taking them into a mix of sophisticated love songs and righteous society tunes that puts them with the best of the early 70s harmonicists from the east coast. The album was produced in Chicago by Star-Vue Productions, and it's got arrangements by Tom Tom and Benjamin Wright that are very much in the mode of late Cadet and Brunswick work. Titles include "Because I Love You", "Ballad Of Matheia", "Love Diet", "God Bless You Love", "Me, Myself & I", "Searchin'", and "Talk About the World". LP, Vinyl record album
(Promo. Cover has some edge wear, bent corners, mostly split top seam, and a promo sticker on back.)

Curtom, 1973. Near Mint- ... $9.99
Two great tracks from the album Finally Got Myself Together – a great later Impressions album that has a classic Curtom sound! The cut "Finally" has a sound that's a lot like the work that Curtis did with the Staples on "Let's Do It Again" – and "I'll Always Be Here" is a wonderful upbeat number, with that high-stepping Brunswick-styled Chicago groove! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(In a wrinkled Buddah sleeve.)
