✨✧ Johnny ClarkeCreation Rebel ... LP
17 North Parade, Mid 70s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $34.99 39.98
Fantastic work from Johnny Clarke – one of the younger Jamaican vocalists to emerge in the 70s – given that he started recording at a time when the music had already crossed the Atlantic and was making some big global waves – leaving it to singers like Johnny to bring the whole sound back to the roots! Clarke's got this moody, almost mysterious way of singing – yet a vibe that's every bit as soulful as some of the more straightforward vocalists of the generation before – and that moody approach makes for a perfect blend with the gritty production work of Bunny Striker Lee, which often has the bass end of the speakers blasting out as much as the higher, warmer waves of sound from Johnny. This double-length collection might be the best we've ever seen on Clarke from the classic years – and it features great notes and detail, in the top-shelf 17 North Parade style. Titles include "Enter Into His Gates With Praise", "Age Is Growing", "Peace & Love In The Ghetto", "Fire & Brimstone A Go Burn The Wicked", "African People", "King In The Arena", "Blood Dunza", "Dread A Dread", "None Shall Escape The Judgement", "Jah Jah Bless Joshua", "Commercial Locks", "Move Out Of Babylon Rastaman", "Top Ranking", and "Roots Natty Congo". An astounding collection that brings together work from a roots reggae legend! Niney's productions stand as some of the strongest benchmarks for golden era roots reggae, with his ability to fuse heavy rhythms with righteous messages and some of the better vocal performances that these singers would turn in for any producer. Backing is by the Soul Syndicate, the Aggrovators, the Revolutionaries, the Cimarons and Steely & Clevie, with 28 tracks in all, including "Blood & Fire" by Niney, "Whole Lot Of Fire" by Big Youth, "Rascal Man" by Delroy Wilson, "Rasta No Born Yah (ext)" by Sang Hugh & The Lionaires, "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner/Clap The Barber" by Michael Rose, "I Need Your Loving" by Slim Smith, "Rock On" by Gregory Isaacs, "Silver Words" by Ken Boothe, "Warrior" by Johnny Clarke, "Chant It Down" by Freddie McGregor, "No More Will I Roam (ext)" by Dennis Brown, "Materialist" by Horace Andy, "Moses" by Jacob Miller, "Temptation, Botheration & Tribulation" by the Heptones, "Lover's Race" by Sugar Minott and "Thank You Mama" by Barry Brown. ✨✧ Chico MannDouble Life (black & white haze vinyl pressing) ... LP
Ubiquity, 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An unusual project from Chico Mann – one first conceived when he moved to LA, and had the desire to start an Afro Funk band – music penned for that idea, but performed here with the stripped-down style of some of Chico's other work! You can definitely hear how the tunes might sound with fuller horns in a larger lineup – but the instrumentation here is a lot leaner – beats, keyboards, guitar riffs, and some likely samples – all served up with plenty of grit, and a sound that really takes us back to the vibe we loved in the earliest records we heard from Chico Mann! Titles include "Hell", "Taking The Blame", "Here Likes Man", "That Much Closer To Nothing", "Sorrow Tears & Blood", "When I Come To", "Fighting", and "Summon Fire". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Roky EricksonEvil One (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
Light In The Attic, 1981. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Roky Erickson's fantastic early 80s material with The Aliens – tracks that were produced by Creedence Clearwater Revival's Stu Cook – with some of the most straight-forward and accessible rockers in Roky's canon, but still sporting his trademark eccentricity! Given his mythical personal history, you can easy describe Roky Erickson as "having demons" – but as you'll hear, he's also got two-headed dogs, vampires, zombies, fire demons, ghosts and Lucifer himself – just on this one record! The tracks have an odd release history – having been recorded in the late 70s, but not released until 1980 in the UK on the Five Symbols record, and in '81 as The Evil One LP, with an altered tracklist. This definitive Light In The Attic version gathers up all 15 amazing tracks from the Stu Cook sessions from '77-'79. Includes the legendary "Two Headed Dog" and many more tunes that are just as incredible! Titles include "I Walked With A Zombie", "Night Of The Vampire", "It's A Cold Night For Alligators", "Mine Mine Mind", "I Think Of Demons", "Creature With The Atom Brain", "Bloody Hammer", "Don't Shake Me Lucifer", "If You Have Ghosts" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(On "Hazy" purple vinyl!)
