They should have called this one Kool & The Gang & The Gang – because the group get a whole lot of help from a huge range of guest stars! The project has the group back in the studio, re-recording some of their classic hits – and working with guest vocalists that include Jamiroquai, Redman, Angie Stone, Lisa Stansfield, Ashanti, Blackstreet, Youssou N'Dour, and Bounty Killer. The groove's quite different than back in the day – as you'd expect – and the overall sound seems to be dictated strongly by the guest artist featured, so that it shifts from track to track on the set. There's a few surprisingly nice numbers on the set, and titles include "Hollywood Swingin", "Too Hot", "Cherish", "Ladies Night", "Jones Vs Jones", "No Show", and a great remake of "Summer Madness" – one of those tunes that's pretty hard to wreck! Also features a bonus instrumental that's pretty nice – "Jazziacs At The Kool Jazz Cafe". CD
