✨✧ Young-Holt UnlimitedDoin The Thing/The Beat Goes On ... 7-inch
Brunswick, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A lesser-known groover by Young-Holt – but a great one! "Doin The Thing" begins with this incredible bass part from Eldee Young – rolling, pounding, and echoing with a soulful beat that gets you going long before the drums even kick in! "The Beat" is a cover of Sonny Bono's big hit – done with some complicated piano riffing over funky grooves! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Art Of NoiseClose To The Edit/Beat Box ... 7-inch
Island, 1984. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Brilliant work! Would music ever be this great again? We're hard pressed to think so. Trevor Horn, fresh from his vamped-up work with Yes, hits the beat box with the Dudley, Horn, and Jeczalik team, and comes up with these crossover instrumental tunes that took a hip hop groove to the next level, shoved together sheets of sound and noises, and probably influenced the sound of 95% of TV commercials in the 90s! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Little Carl Carlton46 Drums – 1 Guitar/Why Don't They Leave Us Alone ... 7-inch
Big Beat, 1968. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A great little single from Carl Carlton – billed here as "Little Carl Carlton, the 14 year old sensation". Don't let Carl's age put you off, though – because the cut's a great little funky soul number, with a drum breakdown in the middle, which Carl shouts and sings over in a great way! The flip's a sweet little love number – not bad, and with a strongish groove thanks to drums, bass, and horns. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Jimmy GiuffreTangents In Jazz (part 2) ... 7-inch
Capitol, 1955. Very Good (pic cover)... $1.99 3.99
One of Jimmy Giuffre's excellent early recordings for Capitol, and a nice blend of west coast styles with more modernist experimentation. Here, Giuffre begins his experiments in jazz without a "non-pulsating beat", that is, jazz without snapping cymbal, walking bass, or pounding piano to provide a steady pulse. The group includes Ralph Pena on bass, Artie Anton on drums, and Jack Sheldon on trumpet, and the four musicians play together in beautifully fragile little lines, which arc up and back, and come together with a sense of grace and surprise. Tracks include "The Leprechaun", "Scintilla Three" & "This Is My Beloved". 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover has ring wear and patchy stuck-on paper at the bottom, light surface wear & aging.)

Jerry OFunky Four Corners/Soul Lover ... 7-inch
Boo Ga Loo, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... $24.99
One of the best versions of "Funky Four Corners" we've ever heard! The bass is rattling along at a level so loud and heavy that it's bound to pop the top off your speaker – while Jerry screams and shouts his way through the lyrics in a way that would make James Brown proud, a fact that he even acknowledges when he shouts "Sorry JB!" at one point in the cut! "Soul Lover" is fantastic too – a funky answer song to "Tramp", with a similar hard sock beat, and a hard break at the intro, which is augmented here by conga work! Both cuts are great – and one of the best singles ever by Jerry O! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Sidney Joe QuallsI Enjoy Loving You/How Can You Say Goodbye ... 7-inch
Dakar, 1974. Very Good- ... $5.99
"I Enjoy" is the title track to Sydney's first LP – and is a great number with a compressed southern soul style that's a bit like work on Hi Records, but which is handled with more of a Chi-town flair, thanks to some good work by Carl Davis. "How Can You Say Goodbye" has a bit more punch – strings sliding on the beat while Sid does a great Al Green-type vocal! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Labels have light wear and pen.)

Harry RayRide Your Pony Girl (double sided) ... 7-inch
All Platinum, 1974. Very Good+ ... $29.99
A killer bit of New Jersey soul from the 70s – and one of our favorite Moments tracks ever! Harry Ray steps out as the lead of the group on this one – but is still supported by some great Moments harmonies at times. But the real appeal of the track is the amazing arrangement – which starts out with echoey piano over a funky beat – then keeps this snapping Sylvia-like groove that runs throughout! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(White label pressing. Vinyl has a tiny drill hole.)

Frank Sinatra & Count BasieIt Might As Well Be Swing (7 inch jukebox ep) ... 7-inch
Reprise, Early 60s. Good (pic cover)... $1.99
A delightful little jukebox EP from one of Sinatra's greatest records ever – pure genius all the way through! Frank's backed here by the orchestra of Count Basie, with some incredible arrangements by Quincy Jones that really have a jazzy, syncopated kick to them. The move seems to be an unintentional way of covering for Frank's slightly failing pipes – but it also picks up on a seminal beat change in 60s pop, the same sort of gentle snapping groove that you'd find in the best work by Bacharach, a shift that really infuses Frank's vocals with a whole new sound, one that shows that he's ready to keep on growing and growing after being stuck in a Nelson Riddle rut. All tracks are superb – hip 60s pop and showtunes, like "Fly Me To the Moon", "More", "The Good Life", and "I Wanna Be Around". 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover has half split top & bottom seams, light surface wear & aging.)

✨✧ Archie Bell & The DrellsTighten Up (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A classic groover – one that we never tire of, even though it was a hit! "Tighten Up" is a mean, lean slice of Texas funk with killer guitar work – and it sounds even better on the beat-heavy stripped-down "part 2" than it does on the more familiar "part 1"! Essential! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Includes Atlantic sleeve.)

✨✧ Edwin StarrAgent Double O Soul (voc, inst) ... 7-inch
Ric Tic, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A Northern Soul classic – and one of Edwin's greatest cuts ever! The tune's got a hip, high stepping dancefloor beat, with lyrics by Edwin that are really cool, a soul take on James Bond, with a lot of twists and turns in the lyrics that are nice and clever, and which give the track a mod appeal that still holds true today! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Yellow label pressing with black text. Label has a spot of sticker remnant.)

✨✧ James BrownLicking Stick (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
King, Late 60s. Good ... Out Of Stock
An undisputed groover! The track's a killer uptempo one from James' later years on King – and it's got this amazing beat that snaps along at a full deep stride. Very nice stuff, and the kind of tight grooving that would show up later in his work with the JBs – done here earlier, with a great raw groove. 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ James BrownPayback (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
Polydor, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of James Brown's greatest cuts ever – a stone funky monster that never gets old! The tune's got a snapping slow funk beat that's simply incredible, and it builds and builds with a sound that has an intensity that can't be beat! Plus, this 2-part single is actually pretty tough to find – a lot rarer than the album, with a strange spoken announcer over a few parts! 7-inch, Vinyl record
