Milton NascimentoCacador De Mim ... LP
Ariola (Brazil), 1981. Near Mint- ... $16.99
Soaring, spacious work from Milton Nascimento – an album done with musical backings from frequent partner Wagner Tiso, and songwriting help from Fernando Brant – all in the best sophisticated mode of their Minas Geraes generation! The sound is occasionally a bit more mellow than some of Nascimento's other albums – but that also enforces the depth and ambition of the compositions too – as there's a quality here that's extremely thoughtful, and almost visionary – Milton pausing a bit to look towards new horizons, then reaching out beautifully with his soulful vocals. Other guests include Flavio Venturini and Ney Matogrosso – and titles include "Amor Amigo", "De Magia De Danca E Pes", "Noticias Do Brasil", "Vida", "Cacador De Mim", "Sonho De Moco", and "Nos Bailes Da Vida". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mid 80s Barclay reissue. Includes the insert. Cover is bent a bit at the edges.)

✨✧ Yates Brothers & SistersYBS – Yates Brothers & Sisters ... LP
Ariola, 1979. Very Good- ... Just Sold Out!
The great first album from the Yates family – a set that mixes family funk energy with bits of southern soul and club – in a really well-rounded groove that's way more than just a gimmicky brother and sisters set! The album was recorded both in Alabama and on the west coast – and there's a sound here that shows traces of both locales in the groove – the warmth of southern soul on the vocals, but a more modern, more sophisticated approach overall on the music – a style that's not really disco or club, but which has some of the best elements of styles that would flower more strongly in the 80s. Titles include "The World Makes The World What It Is", "Mama Said", "Stick In The Mud", "Just Can't Fight The Feeling", "I Could Love But One Boy", "What Goes Around Comes Around", and "Disco Drummer". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cutout hole and light wear.)

✨✧ Tatsuro YamashitaMoonglow ... LP
Ariola/Sony (Japan), 1979. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A sweet masterpiece of 70s AOR from Japan – served up by Tatsuro Yamashita, who was easily one of the most soulful male singers on the scene in the years before city pop! The record's got a jazzy vibe that's great, and which really fits the R&B-inspired midtempo rhythms – almost as if Wayne Henderson had a hand in putting the whole thing together, similar to some of his late 70s productions for Fantasy Records – but with some occasional 80s touches that also hint at changes to come in the next decade. Vocals are all in Japanese, but the record's got a very universal appeal – and titles include "Rainy Walk", "Funky Flushin", "Hot Shot", "Touch Me Lightly", "Yellow Cab", "Nightwing", and "Full Moon". ✨✧ Chapter 8Chapter 8 ... LP
Ariola, 1979. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
The first album from Chapter 8 – a set that's probably best remembered for introducing the world to Anita Baker, but one that's also pretty darn great on its own! Chapter 8 have a sharply soulful focus, one that takes them a bit above some of the other mainstream ensembles of the time – a balance of grooving rhythms and deeper feelings that's just about perfect – about at the level you might get from Maze or LTD, two other groups who both sported equally soulful lead singers! Gerald Lyles sings the male parts alongside Anita, and the blend is perfect – one that should have made the record even bigger than it was at the time, but maybe all that much better, since the lack of hit quality really keeps things fresh. Titles include the singles "Ready For Your Love" and "I Just Wanna Be Your Girl", plus "Don't You Like It", "Let's Get Together", "Come & Boogie", "I Go Disco", and "We Need Love". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some ring and edge wear, heavy wear at the spine, and is bent at the bottom left corner.)

✨✧ Tatsuro YamashitaFor You (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Ariola (Japan), 1982. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A classic groove album from Japanese singer Tatsuro Yamashita – one that takes all the funky soul modes he'd forged in the 70s, and fits them with a tighter 80s groove overall! The set has Tatsuro working with his core band, who've really honed things to a "T", and are going for that leaner funky style that many American soul acts were using at the time – stronger basslines, mixed with riffing guitar and plenty of keyboards – which leaves Yamashita's vocals right out front in the mix, soaring with that uniquely soulful style of his! Titles include "Futari", "Morning Glory", "Hey Reporter", "Love Talkin", "Loveland Island", "Sparkle", and "Your Eyes". LP, Vinyl record album
(Heavy Japanese pressing, with obi!)

✨✧ Taka BoomTaka Boom ... LP
Ariola, 1979. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Classic club from Taka Boom – a singer with a name that was just right for the disco generation! Taka's got an approach here that's common for the time, but also a cut above – an approach to disco that's more soulful overall, and which has a bit more staying power than throwaway pop for the clubs. The album features some good help in the right places – including sister Chaka Khan on backing vocals, Gary Bartz on alto sax, and McKinley Jackson on some of the arrangements – all forces that nicely match the soulful impulse of Taka's vocals. Titles include "Troubled Waters", "Night Dancin", "Red Hot", "Dance Like You Do At Home", "Cloud Dancer", "You're My Everything", and "Dance Baby Dance". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ EruptionEruption – Featuring Precious Wilson ... LP
Ariola, 1978. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A great funky group with a hell of a lead singer – so much so, they decided to put her name on the title of this album! Precious Wilson's got a voice that might have been suited to deep soul, had she sung in the 60s – but here, she works with Eruption on a set of cuts that have kind of a funky club vibe – less disco, and more ensemble funk – with a lean, clean groove that almost points the way more towards soul styles of the 80s. Basslines and keyboards are at the core of most numbers, even though there's some added horns and larger arrangements – and there's a great sense of pacing to the album, as evidenced by Wilson's great covers of the Ann Peeble's classic "I Can't Stand The Rain", and a nice remake of The Staple Singers' "I'll Take You There". Other tracks include "Do You Know What It Feels Like", "Be Yourself", "Wayward Love", "Party Party", and "Computer Love". LP, Vinyl record album

RCA/BMG (Japan), Late 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A great collection of work from this soulful Japanese singer - all of his best for RCA and Ariola, collected here in one sweet set! There were few cats on the Japanese scene of the time who could match the approach of US soul singers as well as Yamashita – and you'll definitely hear proof of that on Tatsuro's work on cuts that include "Windy Lady", "Bomber", "Loveland Island", "Ride On Time (single version)", "Door Into Summer", "Let's Dance Baby", "Your Eyes", "Solid Slider", and "Funky Flushin". Baby (Italy), 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Playful Italian disco from the 70s – done with a few cheesy touches, including the "harem" cover on the record – but also featuring some nice longer tracks that have better instrumental passages! There's a nice exotic feel on "Sandstorm", complete with Eastern-styled strings – and a few cuts also feature some nice moogy bits too. Our favorite is the kitschy "Song For Smokey & The Bandit" – and other tracks include "One For You One For Me", "Hey Woman", and "There For Me". LP, Vinyl record album
