✨✧ Henry KaiserAloha ... LP
Metalanguage, 1981. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the key records that helped establish the reputation of Henry Kaiser as a groundbreaking guitarist – despite a rather hideous cover! The double-length set features Kaiser on a variety of guitars, with occasional extra work on the last side from John French on drums, Greg Goodman on piano, and Scott Colby on slide guitar and bass. ✨✧ KalapanaKalapana I ... LP
Abattoir/Aloha Got Soul, 1976. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A legendary album from the Hawaiian scene of the 70s – and definitely one of the key records that helped define the sound of the island at the time! Kalapana have a vibe that's almost a west coast mix of breezy jazz and soul – of the sort you might hear from the hipper corners of the Bay Area scene – but there's also a special sort of sunny glow to the whole thing, and a positive vibe that's emphasized by the strong keyboard work and acoustic guitar – and the production, while tight, is nicely different than major label releases of the time. Titles include "Going Going Gone", "The Hurt", "Nightbird", "Naturally", "All I Want", "Kona Daze", "To Be True", "When The Morning Comes", and "Everything Is Love". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ KalapanaKalapana II (blue vinyl pressing) ... LP
Abattoir/Aloha Got Soul, 1976. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
The sweet second album from this legendary Hawaiian soul group – maybe the island state's biggest musical export at the time, and for good reason too! Kalapana work here with the same tropical soul mode as their debut, but tighten things up in all the right ways – by stepping into a Cali studio that really helps them refine their sound, and set their warm vocal harmonies to some arrangements and production that really knock the whole thing out of the park! One track's a great fusion instrumental titled "Black Sand" – and the rest of the album is vocal, with titles that include "I'd Chase A Rainbow", "Way That I Want It To Be", "Nathan's Lament", "Moon & Stars", "Lost Again", "Wandering Stranger", "Freedom", and "Play It Sing It". ✨✧ Johnny CashAmerican VI – Ain't No Grave ... LP
American, 2010. Near Mint- ... $29.99
The sixth volume of American Recordings from Johnny Cash – recorded in the months between June's & Johnny's passing – produced by an increasingly reverent Rick Rubin and put together with care and consideration. Cash sounds justifiably weary on these late recordings, with songs chosen from the work of great friends, admirers and the Man In Black himself. It's the second posthumous set in the series, but it's truly good stuff, and certainly respectful of Johnny's astounding legacy. Includes "Ain't No Grave", "Redemption Song", "For The Good Times", "Satisfied Mind", "I Corinthians 15:55", "I Don't Hurt Anymore", "Cool Water", "Last Night A Stranger Had A Dream" and "Aloha Oe". LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram pressing from 2014. Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Phase 7Playtime ... CD
Broad/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1980. New Copy ... $10.99 14.99
A great bit of Aloha Soul from Phase 7 – a Hawaiian group who are right on the money from the very first note, and continue throughout with a wonderfully warm sound! The record's a bit upbeat, but not really clubby – more in the kind of sunny free soul vibe that we love from some of the best island soul groups of the time – delivered with a style that's upfront and unadorned, maybe a more honest take on some of the Cali soul that was coming out of the bigger studios on the west coast in the late 70s. The album's rock-solid throughout – crafted more as a whole set than going for a few singles – and titles include "Could It Be Love", "Chotto Matte Kudasai", "Playtime", "Slip Away", "You & Me", "So Good To Be In Love", and "Love Lifted Me". ✨✧ CrampsDate With Elvis (coloured vinyl) ... LP
Big Beat (UK), 1986. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the best full lengths by The Cramps! By the time A Date With Elvis came out in the mid 80s, The Cramps had pretty much perfected their wild mix of ghoulish innuendo and truly devoted roots rock/garage revivalism. The sex club and monster movie imagery was for show, but their love of rootsy rumbles was no joke! The record is dedicated to the memory of Ricky Nelson and the dedication is not ironic. Great, ghoulish Cramps at their mid-decade peak. Oh, and by the way. . .Elvis couldn't have handled a date with Ivy. She'd have wrecked that boy. Includes "How Far Can I Go?", "The Hot Pearl Snatch", "People Ain't No Good", "What's Inside A Girl?", "Can Your Pussy Do The Dog?", "Kizmiaz", "Aloha From Hell", "Cornfed Dames" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Ira NepusTrombone Feeling ... LP
Heaven/P-Vine (Japan), 1979. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A sweetly soulful set from the Aloha soul scene of the late 70s – a record that features plenty of warm trombone work from Ira Nepus, mixed with some R&B-styled backings – all at a level that's a fair bit like the best US work of Raul DeSouza at the time! The blend of jazz and soul is great – almost in Wayne Henderson territory – and the cuts have vocals, but always still save plenty of room for great solos from Nepus – a player we don't know much at all, but who really captures the best sort of jazzy soul vibe that Fantasy records was putting out at the time! And speaking vibes, Rich Margolis delivers some great work on that instrument too – on titles that include "Trickey Mickey", "Trombone Feeling", "Flamenco Jazz", "Slide Vibin", "Limbo Jazz", and "Journey To Paricutin". ✨✧ Jack NitzscheOne Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest ... LP
Fantasy, 1975. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A pretty straight score from Jack Nitzsche – despite his groovier tendencies on earlier work – but also not a bad one, and a lot more striking than we remember the music being when we saw the film! A few tracks are kind of groovy and soft instrumentals, others are more dramatic, and occasionally there will be some odd instrumental touches that show that Nitzsche's still up to his old tricks. Titles include "Trolling", "Cruising", "One Few Over The Cuckoo's Nest", "Medication Valse", and "Aloha Los Pescadores". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Hiroshi OkazakiLiving Voices – Neo Standards ... CD
Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1970. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great lost slice of easy from Japan – sweet vocal tracks that are sort of a groovy take on the Hawaiian sound of the 60s! The tracks include a lot of Hawaiian standards, sung by the Living Voices in a mode that's occasionally gentle and dreamy, but which at other times has a surprising groove underneath – not the sleepy Hawaiian music records you'd know from the American scene of the 50s and 60s, but a groovier style that shows the way that the Japanese market continued to explore the genre,a nd really make something different! The set brings together titles from 1970 and 1974 albums, and titles include "Beyond The Reef", "To You Sweetheart Aloha", "Mapuana", "Blue Hawaii", "Lovely Hula Hands", and "Around The World". CD
