✨✧ Stone AllianceStone Alliance Con Amigos ... LP
PM, 1977. New Copy ... $11.99
A really great setting for this legendary 70s combo – a record that has the core Stone Alliance trio coming into play with a host of Argentine musicians who really open up their sound! The core energy is still super-sharp – that magical combination of the saxes of Steve Grossman, bass of Gene Perla, and drums of Don Alias – but the sound takes on whole new dimensions with added keyboards, percussion, and bandoneon – used in different ways throughout to create warmer, lyrical elements. Titles include "Taking A Good Long Look", "Amigos", "I'll Tell You Tomorrow", "Miss T", and "Mujeres Sud Americans". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Stone AllianceHeads Up ... LP
PM, 1980. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Stone Alliance move down to a duo here – the mighty team of Don Alias on drums and Gene Perla on bass – and the pair bring in a whole host of great guest stars to take the place of recently-departed reedman Steve Grossman! To us, the record would be more than great enough on its own with just the grooves of Perla and Alias – but the set really warms up from contributions by artists who include Michael Brecker on tenor, Dave Liebeman on reeds, Randy Brecker on trumpet, Alex Acuna on percussion, and Jan Hammer on keyboards – keeping things as tight and focused as on his best 70s funky fusion outings. Perla and Alias keep things tight and choppy in the rhythms – a nice undercurrent of funk on most tracks – and titles include "Pedra Da Lua", "Trampoline", "Aunt Remus", "Tribute To Afreeka", and "Uncle Jemima". Soul Jazz (UK), 1970s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $26.99 29.99
A landmark collection – and one that virtually defined an entire generation unto itself! Back in the mid-90s, when this early Soul Jazz collection was first issued – there was a certain strain of Latin music that had been ignored for decades – that unusual fusion of Latin, soul, funk, and jazz that happened mostly in the New York underground of the 70s – at a time when salsa was reigning king, and some of the more soulful currents were getting lost in the shuffle. The work here is wonderful – and thanks to this set, finally has gotten its place in the history book – as a key moment when so many different scenes came together, and made some of the most groundbreaking Latin grooves of the 20th century! The set's got a wonderful book that's really a primer to hip Latin sounds of the 70s – and vinyl part 1 features nine tracks that include "Las Negritas De Carnaval" by Charlie Palmieri, "Gumbo" by Cortijo Y Su Maquina Del Tiempo, "Babalonia" by Ricardo Marrero & The Group, "Amigos" by Stone Alliance, "Un Dia Bonita" by Eddie Palmieri and more.
