Jazz CritiqueIssue 219 – Charles Mingus ... Book
Jazz Critique (Japan), 2021. New Copy ... $16.99 19.99
That's the great bassist Charles Mingus on the cover – and this issue of Jazz Critique acts as a mini-discography of some of his greatest recording sessions – with listings of dozens of key albums, including sideman sessions, rare live material, and other gems that work together to showcase some of the most acclaimed moments of Mingus on records! As with other issues, the text is mostly in Japanese – but the discography has images of record covers and other details in English – and the issue then moves into a range of other jazz-based features too, in a 200 page, book-styled issue with black and white images throughout. Book
(Note that most text is Japanese – but using Google Translate or other programs via the camera on your phone, you should be able to make your way through the contents.)

✨✧ Michael Lewis & Stephen Spignesi (ed)Outdated Advertising – Sexist, Racist, Creepy & Just Plain Tasteless Ads From A Pre-PC Era ... Book
Skyhorse, 2017. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A hilarious book, and one that's exactly what it promises in the title – a huge compendium of once-popular advertisements that are now pretty darn creepy by today's standards! Almost all the ads are from old magazines, presented here in both color and black and white – depending on the original source – and they're about as sexist, racist, and misguided as you might imagine – filled with bad advice, false claims, surprising images, and all sorts of goofy stuff that makes the book as funny as it is historical. 166 pages, color, softcover. Book
(Spine has a remainder mark.)

✨✧ Gary TaxaliGary Taxali – I Love You, OK (hardcover) ... Book
teNeues, 2011. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Gary Taxali is an artist with a really great style – a way of taking vintage aesthetics and giving them a more contemporary, underground vibe – maybe a bit like some of the artists associated with Raw magazine many years back, but at a level that makes Taxali's art a lot more versatile across different fields! The book features an introduction from Aimee Mann in a number of languages – but the contents are mostly images – page after page of full color reproductions of prints, posters, and a number of other modes – presented back to back, with no text at all – so that diving into the book is like living in the weird and wonderful universe of Gary Taxali! Hardcover edition is 141 pages, full color throughout. Book
