A mid 70s live recording by Japanese percussionist Masahiko Togashi – performed with help from a larger group that includes Sadao Watanabe on reeds, Masahiko Satoh on percussion, Shigeo Suzuki on reeds, and extra added percussion. Tracks are long and exploratory – usually beginning with spare percussion, and then slowly adding in additional instrumentation. The "spiritual nature" of the title is apt, as the exploratory style of the tunes is never too avant – simply searching and stretching, in a righteous, almost post-Coltrane way. Consciousness-stretching grooves from Tonto's Expanding Head Band – one of the earliest avant electronic rock records we can think of – and certainly one of coolest of the early 70s! Zero Time is way ahead of the curve when it comes to instrumental electronics – with a sort of pulsing progressive sound that's like the best stuff by Tangerine Dream – and with a cool bubbling feel to it. A heady tribute to the legendary Malian guitarist Ali Farka Toure – served up here with really wonderful lead guitar lines from his son, Vieux Farka Toure, who gets some fantastic help on the record from the Khruangbin trio! Given the fame of that latter group, the set could end up in territory that might be too mixed-up or rock-based – but instead, Khruangbin are wonderfully respectful of the legacy in which they work – and almost seem to come into play as a really great rhythm combo, backing up the lead – instead of trying to muscle their way into limelight on the set! That approach is what makes the record great, and allows us to tip our hat once again to the ever-changing and surprisingly generous spirit of Khruangbin – as they help Vieux Farka Toure turn out one of his best records to date, on titles that include "Savanne", "Diarabi", "Tongo Barra", "Tamalla", "Mahine Me", "Ali Hala Abada", and "Alakarra". An interesting mix of 70s radio ready rock and harder edged numbers from Treasure – a group featuring vocals, keys and synth from one time Young Rascal Felix Cavaliere – and hard rock guitar guru Vinnie Cusano, later to go by Vinnie Vincent and join Kiss! The sound is catchy and tailor made for 70s stadium rock, but the group never hit that kinda pay dirt.
