✨✧ Joshua Glenn & Rob Walker, edSignificant Objects – 100 Extraordinary Stories About Ordinary Things ... Book
Fantagraphics, 2012. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Invented stories about everyday objects – penned by talents as diverse as Jonathan Lethem, Neil LaBute, Ben Katchor, William Gibson, Annie Nocenti, Shelly Jackson, Ben Greenman, Gary Panter, Luc Sante, and many others – originally used as Ebay descriptions for the objects themselves, as a way of exploring the relationship between narrative force and physical reality! The Significant Objects project pulled 100 items out of obscurity from garage sales, thrift stores, and other dust-laden sites – then gave the objects to 100 writers of varied talents – who each then created little stories about them, to be used to sell the objects on Ebay. The relationship between the stories and objects is documented in the book – which also includes photos of each item, and both starting and selling prices on Ebay – with a surprisingly strong track record overall! None of the items sold like a treasure – just at levels that show a stunning relationship between the stories and the sales – and the full-color book is very well put together, including the cover and paperstock within.
