Andre 3000All Together Now (voc, inst) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
Legacy, 2010/2017. New Copy (pic cover)... $7.99
Andre 3000 takes on the Beatles-classic, giving it a great pop funk feel that would've fit right in on his The Love Below side of that OutKast classic! Originally issued as promo single, it's pretty stunning that didn't get a proper release this 7-inch – which also includes a never before released instrumental version – which is suprisingly great itself sans Andre's charsimatic vocals! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Atomic Bomb BandAtomic Bomb Band Performing The Music Of William Onyeabor (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Luaka Bop, 2017. New Copy ... $22.99
A really fantastic album that's way better than any other tribute record we've ever heard – even though the whole thing's a tribute to the legendary William Onyeabor! Yet rather than slavishly copying Onyeabor's music, the group here take off in so many new directions – many of them very funky and filled with even more acoustic touches than in the original versions of the songs – including some great sax and trumpet lines that really give the music some depth. The group features a huge array of all-stars – members of LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Sinkane, and The Beastie Boys – but this also isn't some project where big names are just phoning it in, as there's a very unified vibe that seems to bring out the best in everyone – including folks we might not even like in another context. Jamie Lidell sings on a few cuts, Money Mark plays keyboards on the record, and even the great Charles Lloyd delivers two great tenor solos – on titles that include "Poor Boy", "Love Is Blind", "Fantastic Man", "Good Name", "Heaven & Hell", and "Love Me Now". Fantastic fold-out cover design too! LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition vinyl only pressing – in a fold-out poster cover!)

Luis BacalovLa Seduzione (180 gram vinyl) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Sonor (Italy), 1973. New Copy ... $28.99
A very cool record from Luis Bacalov – and one with a sound that's quite different than some of his more familiar, more sentimental soundtrack material! This one's got a wild mix of modes – from moody, atmospheric tracks, to funky bits, to more tripped-out passages – all with instrumentation that feels much more like it's from the Piccioni or Umiliani camp than the usual Bacalov styles! The whole thing's one of the more obscure numbers in Luis' soundtrack catalog – but it may well also be one of the best, thanks to titles that include "Hello Quincey", "Tucumania", "Nago", "Pinha Tamburim", "Lisa G", "Members Only", and "Anagramma". Columbia, 1993. New Copy (reissue)... $14.99
Big L's travels to hell and back on "Devil's Son" – intended for his Lifestyles Ov Da Poor & Dangerous but didn't make the final cut of that classic album – much like the other gritty underground classics, one-time promo-only, but classic level tracks in this vital EP! The Title track features production by Showbiz, and the other tracks feature equally strong production by fellow legendary producers of the era in Buckwild, Lord Finesse and Large Professor. Other tracks include "I Shoulda Used A Rubba", "School Dayz", "Times Iz Hard" and "Da Unexpected Flava". 12-inch, Vinyl record

Don BlackmanDon Blackman (180 gram vinyl) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Arista/Expansion (UK), 1982. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99
A jazz funk masterpiece, and THE record by the legendary Don Blackman – the only one issued under his own name for many many years, and a famous little set that's been sampled endlessly over the years, and for good reason! The vibe here is one that's barely been matched again – a blend of 70s fusion, bassy funk, and even tighter riffing – all put together with a greater depth and sense of soul than most other records of its type. Blackman's a GRP contemporary of Bernard Wright, Tom Browne, and Weldon Irvine – and there's bits of all their sound in the work here, but somehow Don does it even better – hitting these grooves, notes, and lines that seem to fall from the heavens – and which still stand as some of the hippest music of his generation. A record to file proudly next to your copies of Ramp and James Mason – and like those gems, the kind of record that only happens once in an artists career! Titles include "You Ain't Hip", "Yabba Dabba Do", "Heart's Desire", "Deaf Hook Up Connection", "Never Miss A Thing", and "Holding You Loving You", and "Since You Been Away So Long". Arista/Expansion (UK), Late 70s. New Copy ... $22.99
All the best tracks from Breakwater – brought together in this one fantastic collection! The set pulls the best numbers from the group's only two albums – tracks that effortlessly blend soul, funk, and a bit of jazz – all with a style that's more sophisticated than mainstream funk and soul acts of the time, but every bit as groovy! The whole set is great – non-stop magic all the way through – and titles include "Work It Out", "No Limit", "You Know I Love You", "That's Not What We Came Here For", "Feel Your Way", "Do It Till The Fluid Gets How", "Love Of My Life", "Say You Love Me Girl", "Time", and "The One In My Dreams". Suzanne CianiFish Music (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
Finders Keepers (UK), 1977. New Copy (pic cover)... $24.99
An electronic music record that's very near and dear to our hearts – as the sounds within were composed by Suzanne Ciani on her Buchla Board synthesizer – and designed for use in the Woodfield Mall in the suburbs of Chicago – a place we spent countless time as kids! We don't remember Ciani's way-out sounds as part of our experience – as, like most forward-thinking ideas, the use of the music was probably scrapped – but the sounds within preserve that optimistic electronic moment – beautiful sounds that are still years ahead of their time! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Single-sided "aquatic clear" vinyl limited to 100 copies. Includes a copy of the original press release as well as a press cutting from the time.)

Jerry Cole/101 StringsAstro Sounds From Beyond The Year 2000 (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... CD
Alshire/Modern Harmonic, 1969. New Copy Gatefold ... $14.99
An absolute treasure of tripped-out, space age symphonic funk from 101 Strings! On this set the undocumented group of session players run through a whole bunch of spacey cuts, complete with fuzzed out electric guitar and sitar, weird period electronics, and more than a few funky drum breaks. It's the kind of record that could only be born of the late 60s scene – filled with huge, stratospheric string charts that soar with pure classical chops, as filtered through the groovy, anything-goes era of late 60s space age grooves. The tracks are as groovy as the titles, which include "Re-Entry to Mog", "Bad Trip Back to '69", "Trippin On Lunar O7", Where Were You In 1982?" and "A Disappointing Love With A Desensitized Robot". Dave Douglas & High RiskDark Territory (with download ) (2016 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Greenleaf, 2016. New Copy ... $24.99
Great work from Dave Douglas and his High Risk quartet – a group who definitely step into dark territory here, in a heady blend of electric elements and Dave's bold frontline work on trumpet! The group electric bass, electric drums, and more electronics – plus some acoustic drums – yet somehow manage to come across with a very organic vibe, and one that's quite different than you might expect – especially in comparison to other trumpet-led projects like this, which often have the leader processed and filtered into the mix. Instead, Dave's sound is as rich and warm as ever – never a slave to the backings, and instead right out front ahead of them – blowing with lines that arc and turn beautifully, and remind us what a personal, poetic soloist Douglas can be. Titles include "Celine", "Ridge Hill", "Mission Acropolis", "All The Pretty Horsepower", and "Loom Large". LP, Vinyl record album

Two jazz funk monsters from Charles Earland's later years at Columbia, one with an unstoppably club-oriented groove and the more mellow, spaced out flip, both with great R&B vocals and none of his inimitable jazzy touch on the keys lost, either! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Easy BeatsVigil (mono pressing) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
EMI/Varese, 1968. New Copy (reissue)... $19.99
The Easybeats are maybe looking a bit trippier than usual on the cover – no surprise, as the album's from a time when they were moving past simple jaunty pop and into some slightly headier territory! Songs are still short, and catchy in all the right places – but it's also clear that these guys are drinking a bit deeper of the British scene of the time, even from their long distance in Australia. Yet the set also has a bit of Brit help, too – including vocals from Steve Marriott on one track, and piano from Nicky Hopkins on a few tracks – in a set of titles that includes "Good Times", "See Saw", "Land Of Make Believe", "Falling Off The Edge Of The World", "Come In You'll Get Pneumonia", "Hello How Are You", and "The Music Goes Round My Head". Lubos FiserValerie & Her Week Of Wonders EP (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
Finders Keepers (UK), 1970. New Copy (pic cover)... $14.99
A dark little soundtrack that we'd pitch right up there with The Wicker Man or Rosemary's Baby – and one with a sound that's somewhere in between those two classics! The work was penned for an obscure early 70s film in the Czech new wave – and features music that's sometimes a bit folksy, sometimes a bit spiritualist – served up in a blend of light orchestrations, occasional choral passages, and eerie isolated instruments that include flute, harpsichord, organ, and bells! There's a darkly brooding quality that really reminds us of Komeda's last great moments for Polanski – but the overall sound is a bit freer, and more illustrative as well – little snippets of poetry in sound, created with a feel that's as evocative as the images they were designed to accompany. This Record StoreDay releases features seven previously unreleased variations, vocal tracks, and newly resurrected themes from the original master tapes. 7-inch, Vinyl record

GoblinNotturno (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Cinevox (Italy), 1982. New Copy ... $29.99
A nice set of crime/cop themes by the great Goblin – scored for this obscure thriller from 1982! Some of the music's a lot more funky than some of Goblin's other scores, with loads of nice keyboards, basslines, and some funky drums – and despite the date of the film, the music feels more like it was lifted from some mid 70s cop show on TV, than some of the stiffer, colder styles that were coming into play on other 80s soundtracks. There's also still a few moody atmospheric pieces that are like the group's other work, but the overall mix is pretty nice – and there's a total of 14 tracks that includes "Nocturne", "Bass Theme", "Landing Strip", "Est", and "Helycopter". The origins of space rock – served up here in an excellent collection of early work from Hawkwind! I Marc 4GLP 1001 (180 gram vinyl) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Sonor (Italy), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... $28.99
There's few groups cooler than I Marc 4 – one of the hippest forces in the Italian sound library studio scene of the 70s – ultra-hip, often-funky, and as groovy as groovy can be – even though these guys were continuously working behind the curtain, and never getting any sort of real exposure to the public! That hasn't stopped their music from becoming the stuff of legend, though – as over the years, material like this has rightly earned the group strong praise from legions of collectors – of both instrumental funk, funky jazz, and hip soundtrack material. Titles on this volume include "Sambaquarta", "Relax", "Nichole", "Sketch", "The Sound", "Weston", "Smookie", "Wonder", and "Underground". LP, Vinyl record album
