Andre 3000All Together Now (voc, inst) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
Legacy, 2010/2017. New Copy (pic cover)... $7.99
Andre 3000 takes on the Beatles-classic, giving it a great pop funk feel that would've fit right in on his The Love Below side of that OutKast classic! Originally issued as promo single, it's pretty stunning that didn't get a proper release this 7-inch – which also includes a never before released instrumental version – which is suprisingly great itself sans Andre's charsimatic vocals! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Atomic Bomb BandAtomic Bomb Band Performing The Music Of William Onyeabor (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Luaka Bop, 2017. New Copy ... $22.99
A really fantastic album that's way better than any other tribute record we've ever heard – even though the whole thing's a tribute to the legendary William Onyeabor! Yet rather than slavishly copying Onyeabor's music, the group here take off in so many new directions – many of them very funky and filled with even more acoustic touches than in the original versions of the songs – including some great sax and trumpet lines that really give the music some depth. The group features a huge array of all-stars – members of LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Sinkane, and The Beastie Boys – but this also isn't some project where big names are just phoning it in, as there's a very unified vibe that seems to bring out the best in everyone – including folks we might not even like in another context. Jamie Lidell sings on a few cuts, Money Mark plays keyboards on the record, and even the great Charles Lloyd delivers two great tenor solos – on titles that include "Poor Boy", "Love Is Blind", "Fantastic Man", "Good Name", "Heaven & Hell", and "Love Me Now". Fantastic fold-out cover design too! LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition vinyl only pressing – in a fold-out poster cover!)

✨✧ Luis BacalovLa Seduzione (180 gram vinyl) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Sonor (Italy), 1973. New Copy ... $28.99
A very cool record from Luis Bacalov – and one with a sound that's quite different than some of his more familiar, more sentimental soundtrack material! This one's got a wild mix of modes – from moody, atmospheric tracks, to funky bits, to more tripped-out passages – all with instrumentation that feels much more like it's from the Piccioni or Umiliani camp than the usual Bacalov styles! The whole thing's one of the more obscure numbers in Luis' soundtrack catalog – but it may well also be one of the best, thanks to titles that include "Hello Quincey", "Tucumania", "Nago", "Pinha Tamburim", "Lisa G", "Members Only", and "Anagramma". Franco BattiatoSembrava Una Serata Come Tante/Gente (2016 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
Universal (Italy), 1969. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)... $8.99
Rare early single from Italian singer-songwriter Franco Battiato – and in a melodic, sprawling psych pop style – with is something of a surprise given his more out there experimentation on later recordings! Both tracks start out with a fairly intimate sound, but build in atmosphere as they go, with nice string arrangements and passionate vocals. A great couple of tunes! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Big LDevil's Son EP (From The Vaults – with download)) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... 12-inch
Columbia, 1993. New Copy (reissue)... Just Sold Out!
Big L's travels to hell and back on "Devil's Son" – intended for his Lifestyles Ov Da Poor & Dangerous but didn't make the final cut of that classic album – much like the other gritty underground classics, one-time promo-only, but classic level tracks in this vital EP! The Title track features production by Showbiz, and the other tracks feature equally strong production by fellow legendary producers of the era in Buckwild, Lord Finesse and Large Professor. Other tracks include "I Shoulda Used A Rubba", "School Dayz", "Times Iz Hard" and "Da Unexpected Flava". 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Don BlackmanDon Blackman (180 gram vinyl) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Arista/Expansion (UK), 1982. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99
A jazz funk masterpiece, and THE record by the legendary Don Blackman – the only one issued under his own name for many many years, and a famous little set that's been sampled endlessly over the years, and for good reason! The vibe here is one that's barely been matched again – a blend of 70s fusion, bassy funk, and even tighter riffing – all put together with a greater depth and sense of soul than most other records of its type. Blackman's a GRP contemporary of Bernard Wright, Tom Browne, and Weldon Irvine – and there's bits of all their sound in the work here, but somehow Don does it even better – hitting these grooves, notes, and lines that seem to fall from the heavens – and which still stand as some of the hippest music of his generation. A record to file proudly next to your copies of Ramp and James Mason – and like those gems, the kind of record that only happens once in an artists career! Titles include "You Ain't Hip", "Yabba Dabba Do", "Heart's Desire", "Deaf Hook Up Connection", "Never Miss A Thing", and "Holding You Loving You", and "Since You Been Away So Long". LP, Vinyl record album

BreakwaterWork It Out – The Very Best Of Breakwater (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Arista/Expansion (UK), Late 70s. New Copy ... $22.99
All the best tracks from Breakwater – brought together in this one fantastic collection! The set pulls the best numbers from the group's only two albums – tracks that effortlessly blend soul, funk, and a bit of jazz – all with a style that's more sophisticated than mainstream funk and soul acts of the time, but every bit as groovy! The whole set is great – non-stop magic all the way through – and titles include "Work It Out", "No Limit", "You Know I Love You", "That's Not What We Came Here For", "Feel Your Way", "Do It Till The Fluid Gets How", "Love Of My Life", "Say You Love Me Girl", "Time", and "The One In My Dreams". Stelvio CiprianiUn'Ombra Nell'Ombra (Ring Of Darkness) (180 gram vinyl) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Four Flies (Italy), 1979. New Copy (reissue)... $26.99
Erotic demonic genius from Stelvio Cipriani – a slinky little soundtrack that's even more electric than some of his other 70s work! The vibe here is still very much in the best Ciprani mode of the time – often slightly funky, with undercurrents of groove that run through the tracks via electric basslines that step, dip, and turn nicely. But even better are the keyboards on the set, played mostly by Claudio Simonetti – sometimes in a spare and spooky way, but at others in a bolder style that recalls the best Italian scores by Goblin from the same stretch. There's less of the Goblin rock quality here, and more of the Ciprani sense of space – and the combination of modes makes the score an especially memorable one – served up in the usual Digitmovies high standards! Dieuf Dieul De ThiesAw Sa Yone Vol 1 (2013 Record Store Day Release) ... CD
Teranga Beat (Senegal), 1981. Used ... $12.99
Amazing sounds from Senegal – a group working here with a trio of singers and some mighty great guitar from Papa Seck – all wrapped up into a groove that mixes the earthy with the trippy! The rhythms bump around with some really hypnotic elements, and often wrap the guitar right around the percussion – while the vocals then blast out with an unexpected sense of power and surprise! Titles include "Na Binta", "Aling Na Djimbe", "Yande", "Ndiguele", and "Mariama Yayou Salam". CD

Two jazz funk monsters from Charles Earland's later years at Columbia, one with an unstoppably club-oriented groove and the more mellow, spaced out flip, both with great R&B vocals and none of his inimitable jazzy touch on the keys lost, either! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Easy BeatsVigil (mono pressing) (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
EMI/Varese, 1968. New Copy (reissue)... $19.99
The Easybeats are maybe looking a bit trippier than usual on the cover – no surprise, as the album's from a time when they were moving past simple jaunty pop and into some slightly headier territory! Songs are still short, and catchy in all the right places – but it's also clear that these guys are drinking a bit deeper of the British scene of the time, even from their long distance in Australia. Yet the set also has a bit of Brit help, too – including vocals from Steve Marriott on one track, and piano from Nicky Hopkins on a few tracks – in a set of titles that includes "Good Times", "See Saw", "Land Of Make Believe", "Falling Off The Edge Of The World", "Come In You'll Get Pneumonia", "Hello How Are You", and "The Music Goes Round My Head". Hauntingly beautiful sound library material from a pair of great composers – the versatile, rare sound library scene favorite Armando Sciascia – and lesser known, but brilliant Fabio Fabor – on an excellent selection of material recorded in the early 70s! The sounds range from soaring choral and string arrangements, to chilling bits of piano and other keyboard atmosphere, on titles that include "Foule", "Sea Spirit", "Asymetric" "Postdoctoral", "Infini", "Fingerpull", "Gliss-Cantata", "Bulldozer", "Horizons", "Contorsions", "Incubus", "Algorithmique", "Vulcan's Dream" and "Marmoreo". Lubos FiserValerie & Her Week Of Wonders EP (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... 7-inch
Finders Keepers (UK), 1970. New Copy (pic cover)... $14.99
A dark little soundtrack that we'd pitch right up there with The Wicker Man or Rosemary's Baby – and one with a sound that's somewhere in between those two classics! The work was penned for an obscure early 70s film in the Czech new wave – and features music that's sometimes a bit folksy, sometimes a bit spiritualist – served up in a blend of light orchestrations, occasional choral passages, and eerie isolated instruments that include flute, harpsichord, organ, and bells! There's a darkly brooding quality that really reminds us of Komeda's last great moments for Polanski – but the overall sound is a bit freer, and more illustrative as well – little snippets of poetry in sound, created with a feel that's as evocative as the images they were designed to accompany. This Record StoreDay releases features seven previously unreleased variations, vocal tracks, and newly resurrected themes from the original master tapes. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Limited to 1000 copies.)

GoblinNotturno (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Cinevox (Italy), 1982. New Copy ... $29.99
A nice set of crime/cop themes by the great Goblin – scored for this obscure thriller from 1982! Some of the music's a lot more funky than some of Goblin's other scores, with loads of nice keyboards, basslines, and some funky drums – and despite the date of the film, the music feels more like it was lifted from some mid 70s cop show on TV, than some of the stiffer, colder styles that were coming into play on other 80s soundtracks. There's also still a few moody atmospheric pieces that are like the group's other work, but the overall mix is pretty nice – and there's a total of 14 tracks that includes "Nocturne", "Bass Theme", "Landing Strip", "Est", and "Helycopter". LP, Vinyl record album
(On acid green vinyl!)
