✨✧ Jack PalancePalance ... CD
Warner/Water, 1970. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really unusual album from actor Jack Palance – unusual in that it may well be his only vocal performance on record, and even more unusual in that it came out during a very hip stretch of Warner Brothers at the start of the 70s! Yet the pairing of Palance and the budding genius of Warner maybe makes perfect sense – as the aging actor is a great fit here for the sorts of moods that you'd find in the bluer songs of Van Dyke Parks, or the subtle drama of Neon Philharmonic – even though the whole thing is less of a Los Angeles affair overall – as it was produced by Buddy Killen in Nashville, with some arrangements by Bergen White. You could call the record a country album, and there's definitely some country elements here – but Jack kind of sing/speaks, and maybe presents the whole thing as a meaner, more mature take on modes that some of the other cowboys on the screen were recording a decade before. Palance also wrote some of the songs – including "The Meanest Guy That Ever Lived" – and other titles include "Goodbye Lucy", "Blackjack County Chains", "A Little Bitty Tear", "Love Can Only Mean You", "Dancing Like Children", and "Brother River". (Folk/Country, Vocalists) CD

✨✧ Joanie SommersJohnny Get Angry ... LP
Warner, 1962. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Dreamy girl pop from the young Joanie Sommers – a set that's got the lady singing in a style that's a bit more chartbound than some of her later recordings, with lots of cool and groovy backings that give the album a wonderful sense of pep – and a slight undercurrent of sex as well! This balance is perfectly summed up in the title cut – Sommers' excellent hit single "Johnny Get Angry", which is practically the epitome of the girl pop sound of the time – yet better than most other folks could touch. Other titles are all great too – and tunes include "Shake Hands With A Fool", "Mean To Me", "The Piano Boy", "One Boy", "Since Randy Moved Away", and "Seems Like Long Long Ago". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono Vitaphonic pressing. Cover has a small cutout grommet and some splitting in the top seam.)

Joanie SommersVoice Of The Sixties ... LP
Warner, 1961. Very Good ... $6.99
Joanie's second album for Warner Brothers – and a date that features some especially nice backings from Neal Hefti, who helps swing Sommers into some great jazzy territory, but always with that playful Hefti touch that we love so much! Instrumentation is always interesting, even underneath the vocals – and the record sparkles like some of the better upbeat jazz vocal sides on Capitol from the time – much better than the usual mainstream fare, with kind of a cool California wink at the listener. Titles include "Aren't You Glad You're You", "For All We Know", "Nobody Else But Me", "This Can't Be Love", "Let There Be Love", and "This Heart Of Mine". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing.)

✨✧ Alan Copeland SingersIf Love Comes With It ... LP
A&M, 1969. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Baroquely beautiful work from the Alan Copeland Singers – a super-groovy session of vocal ensemble tracks, all produced and put together with some sunshiney A&M touches! There's a sound here that's complex, but also wonderfully grooving – one that takes a mixture of male and female voices, and wraps them around some leaner arrangements done in the best blend of easy and sunshine modes found at A&M or Warner at the time. Copeland himself handled most of the arrangements, and also contributed some wonderful tunes to the set – and the whole album's a lost A&M treasure that we'd never part with in a million zillion years! Titles include "Yellow Ribbons", "You're More Fun", "Friday Ferris Wheel", "If Love Comes With It", "Baroque A Nova", and "Morgan Sebastian". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some light wear, but is nice overall.)

✨✧ Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of FriendsRoger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends (with bonus tracks) ... CD
A&M/Rev-Ola (UK), 1967. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite records of all time – a landmark piece of 60s pop that we'd easily rank with the best work by Brian Wilson, Millennium, Gary Usher, Van Dyke Parks, or any of those other California sunny-eyed hipsters! The style is sweet A&M Records vocal pop – with an emphasis on groovy harmonies in a male/female style that reminds us of We Five or The Free Design – but a lot hipper too, as its more adult in its themes – with this way of bringing innocence into play with mature thoughtfulness, but in subtle modes that are perfect for the unique album's placement on A&M! Nichols would later be known for his songwriting with Paul Williams, and was also part of a core group of underground LA pop luminaries that included the whole Warner crew under Lenny Waronker – and this album definitely has some of the sly undertones of some of the hippest late 60s Warner work as well. Titles include "Snow Queen", "Love So Fine", "Don't Take Your Time", "Can I Go", and "Kinda Wasted Without You". CD features 8 more bonus tracks that include "Our Day Will Come", "Love Song, Love Song", "Just Beyond Your Smile (mono 45)", "I'll Be Back (mono 45)", "Let's Ride" and more – plus extensive new liner notes!
