Dionne WarwickDionne Warwick In Paris ... LP
Scepter, 1966. Near Mint- ... $4.99
A unique concert album from Dionne Warwick – proof that her talents weren't always restricted to Burt Bacharach arrangements in the studio! The setting is the classy Olympia Theater in Paris, and the style is a bit more open than on Dionne's studio albums – with less material by Bacharach & David than before, and a wider range of tunes that not only includes a few songs sung in French, but also a duet with Parisian popper Sacha Distel! The audience is oddly mic'ed up very high in the mix at times – crashing into the start of most tunes with the ferocity of radio static or a swarm of bees – but Warwick quickly takes over with her own vocals once the songs get going. Titles include "I Love Paris", "C'Est Si Bon", "Walk On By", "You'll Never Get To Heaven", "O Yeah Yeah Yeah", "The Good Life", "La Vie En Rose", and "What'd I Say". (Soul, Vocalists) LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo red label pressing.)

Dionne WarwickFrom Within ... LP
Scepter, 1972. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... $4.99
A sprawling set of material Dionne recorded for Scepter before departing the label – a good number of which were made with Memphis producer Chips Moman during the sessions for the excellent Soulful album – and some diverse, equally great material that spans her years at the label! It includes a host of great Bacharach/David productions – with some nice medleys of hits and wide range of covers, including some classic Sly Stone and Curtis Mayfield on the edgier end, plus nice takes on the Beatles and others. It's got some great gospel-leaning numbers, too! A far-reaching set with more than 30 tracks – including "Grace", "People Get Ready", "Summertime", "Give A Damn", "Slaves"., "People Got TO Be Free""The Love Of My Man", "I've Been Loving You Too Long", a cool cover of The Band's "The Weight", "Someday We'll Be Together", "Games People Play" and "Everyday People". (Soul, Vocalists) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cutout hole and light wear.)

Dionne WarwickMagic Of Believing ... LP
Scepter, 1968. Very Good ... $2.99
Quite an unusual album for Dionne Warwick – a late 60s effort that has her returning to her gospel roots, and singing with backing from The Drinkard Sisters – a group originally founded by Dionne's mother, and which featured a young Cissy Houston! The sound here isn't as strictly gospel as you might expect – and in a way, it's almost an exploration of some of the more spiritual themes that echoed on some of Dionne's earlier hits written by Burt Bacharach – those slow-building and soulful moments that were themselves a reflection of Warwick's earlier roots. The arrangements aren't credited here, but they're also not as "churchy" as you might expect – and still have some of the sophistication of Bacharach backings from previous albums. Titles include "Somebody Bigger Than You & I", "The Magic Of Believing", "Steal Away", "Grace", and "In The Garden". (Soul, Vocalists) LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing. Vinyl has some fogginess from oxidation. Cover has a small cutout hole, unglued seams, and is bent a bit at the spine and top left corner.)

✨✧ Dionne WarwickI'll Never Fall In Love Again (Japanese paper sleeve edition – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Scepter/Warner (Japan), 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
Wonderfully mature work from Dionne Warwick – one of her last few albums for the Scepter label, with a sense of maturity, poise, and grace that tops even Dionne's earliest classics for the label. She's still working heavily here with Burt Bacharach – who produced and arranged most of the songs – with some help from Hal David and Larry Wilcox. And in some way, it's almost like Bacharach's reinvigorated here – moving into a deeper mode that's quite similar to some of the more complicated tunes on his A&M recordings from the same period – almost unafraid of charting or not, and working instead in a completely adult mode that's beautifully constructed through webs of sound and sadness, loss and longing. Titles include "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head", "My Way", "Knowing When To Leave", "Let Me Go To Him", and "Didn't We". A whopping 10 bonus tracks on this CD edition – including "They Say It's Wonderful", plus mono single versions of "Let Me Go To Him", "Knowing When To Leave", "The April Fools", "Slaves", "The Look Of Love" and more. (Soul, Vocalists) CD

✨✧ Dionne WarwickDionne Warwick On Stage & In The Movies ... LP
Scepter, 1967. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Dionne Warwick's making a bit of a break from formula for this album – by singing a batch of tunes from films and shows, none of which were written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David! Yet despite this change from earlier records, the album's still got a sound that's strongly in keeping with Warwick's 60s years at Scepter Records – thanks to arrangements by Burt that help transform these older tunes, and update them with a new sense of maturity for Dionne's singing style. The real appeal of the record is the way that Bacharach changes things up with some of these overdone numbers – finding new corners to explore, and creating a sense of surprise that's quite different than other albums of this nature. Titles include "Something Wonderful", "Summertime", "My Favorite Things", "I Believe In You", "My Ship", "Anything You Can Do", and "He Loves Me". (Soul, Vocalists) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Dionne WarwickValley Of The Dolls ... LP
Scepter, 1968. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Not really the soundtrack for the movie – but a sweet batch of tracks that feature the lovely Dionne Warwick singing the title tune – and stretching out on a host of other great 60s numbers too! The album was recorded in two different sessions, mostly with backings by Burt Bacharach – who always makes his own music sound great – with a bit of extra help from Pat Williams, Manny Albam, and Garry Sherman – who each get a tune to work with. Gone is the dreamy optimism of some of Dionne's earlier albums – and in its place is a more mature, slightly sadder style that's really great. Titles include "Valley Of The Dolls", "For The Rest Of My Life", "Do You Know The Way To San Jose", "Silent Voices", "Let Me Be Lonely", "You're My World", "Where Would I Go", and "Walking Backwards Down The Road". (Soul, Vocalists) LP, Vinyl record album
