✨✧ Blossom DearieWinchester In Apple Blossom Time ... CD
Daffodil (UK), 1977. Used ... Out Of Stock
Wonderful later work by Blossom Dearie – a 2LP set that's filled with wonderful compositions that rank with some of her best tunes! The style of the album is subtle – mostly just spare piano backing behind Blossom's vocals – but the tunes are opened up with that magical vocal approach that's always made Blossom one of the most distinct singers of her time. Original tunes include "Love Is An Elusive Celebration", "Winchester In Apple Blossom Time", "Touch The Hand Of Love", "Sunday Afternoon", and "Sweet Surprise" – and contains versions of "Sammy", "It Amazes Me", "A Wonderful Guy", "Jazz Musician", and "The Wheelers & Dealers". ✨✧ PeddlersFantastic Peddlers ... LP
Fontana (UK), Mid 60s. Very Good ... $7.99
Early work from The Peddlers – the unique British trio who went onto cut some incredible break tracks in their day! This set's got the group more in the "beat" mode of things – still nicely syncopated, and working with the mix of guitar and organ that makes their tunes so nice – but with less of an emphasis on the downturning grooves that made some of their later work a bit more funky. Still quite nice, though, in the mode of early Georgie Fame – and with tracks that include "Gassin", "What'll I Do?", "Delicious Lady", "Adam's Apple", "True Girl", and "Anybody's Fool". (Soul, Vocalists) LP, Vinyl record album
(UK pressing, in a flipback cover.)

✨✧ Esperanza SpaldingChamber Music Society ... CD
Telarc, 2010. Used ... $2.99
A timeless mix of heart tuggingly intimate strings and beautiful vocals by Esperanza Spalding – a set that feels deep down close to the heart, and in turns, quite soaring – all the while wonderful! The aspects we loved so dearly on Esperanza's previous albums are also done here – touching on soulful Brazilian, soul jazz and chamber pop & soul influences, lovely wordless vocals as well as sweeter singing, and beautiful performances by the players. Ms Spalding is on bass and vocals with Leo Genovese on piano, Rhodes & melodica, Terri Lyne Carrington on drums and Quintino Cinalli on percussion. The great Milton Nasciemento guests on "Apple Blossom", and other titles include "Little Fly", "Knowledge Of Good And Evil", "Really Very Small", "Chacarera", "Wild Is The Wind", "Apple Blossom" and "Short And Sweet". (Neo Soul, Vocalists) CD

✨✧ Mel TormeSunday In New York & Other Songs About New York ... LP
Atlantic, 1963. Very Good ... $7.99
One of our favorite-ever albums from Mel Torme – a set that sparkles with the same smooth swing as his best late 50s dates for Bethlehem records! Like those sets, this one features Torme's voice really taking off over some tight jazzy charts – arranged by Johnny Williams, Shorty Rogers, and Dick Hazard – all in styles close to those used previously by Marty Paich. But almost even better is the New York theme of the record – surprising, given the anti-NYC vibe of Torme's classic "California Suite" – but perfect, too, as it really ties the whole thing together wonderfully – creating this beautiful picture of the Big Apple in the postwar years. Titles include the greatest version of "Sunday In New York" you'll ever hear – plus "Let Me Off Uptown", "Autumn In New York", "New York New York", "Manhattan", and "My Time Of Day". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo blue & green label pressing. Cover has a good deal of aging, light ring wear, and a spill stain down the back cover.)

✨✧ Blossom DearieLost Recordings – Lost Sessions From The Netherlands (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Lost Recordings (France), Late 60s/1970s/1980s. New Copy Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
An incredible lost slice of work from one of our favorite singers of all time – a set of different live performances recorded in the Netherlands, most of which have some larger arrangements that give the whole thing the same sort of vibe as Blossom Dearie's famous London recordings of the 60s! The material here spans a time that stretches from 1968 to the end of the 80s – and Blossom is on piano throughout, and works with large backings from the Metropole Orchestra on about half the tracks – with arrangements from Arthur Greenslade and Rob Pronk, who really get the groovy spirit of the music right! Other tracks feature smaller group recordings, but still with that special charm that Blossom has in the London years – on titles that include "Discover Who I Am", "The Music Played", "You Have Lived In Autumn", "Who Knows Why", "Both Sides Now", "Bring All Your Love Again", "Bye Bye Country Boy", "Sammy", "Winchester In Apple Blossom Time", "Sweet Georgie Fame", and "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head". Kim Sang HeeKim Sang Hee Sings Tom Jones & Burt Bacharach ... LP
All Art/Solid (Japan), 1971. New Copy (reissue)... $40.99 49.99
The lovely Kim Sang Hee takes on the music of both Tom Jones and Burt Bacharach – in a setting that has her working with nicely different backings for each of the different sources! The Burt Bacharach material is maybe our favorite – as Kim's sweet voice works wonderfully with the small combo backing of pianist Masahiko Sato, who really seems to get the right sense of space and timing for the Bacharach tunes that include "April Fools", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head", and "This Girl's In Love With You". The Tom Jones material includes a range of different songs associated with Jones, not necessarily written by him – with groovy larger backings from the New Herd of Toshiyuki Miyama, with arrangements by Norio Maeda – on cuts that include "It's Not Unusual", "Little Green Apples", "Delilah", and "Green Green Grass Of Home". (Japanese, Vocalists) LP, Vinyl record album
(Great Japanese pressing – with obi!)
