✨✧ Robert AshleyPrivate Parts ... LP
Lovely, 1977. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of the most important records from composer Robert Ashley – and one that's got a compact approach that helped it circulate a lot more than some of Ashley's larger operas! This piece is very much like those – with Ashley's unique spoken approach – part poetry, part performance art – but the sound is more stripped-down, and in the spirit of the young downtown New York generation of Laurie Anderson and Phillip Glass – served up with great instrumental help from contemporary Blue Gene Tyranny, who plays piano, moog, and clavinet – with some additional tablas for accompaniment! The whole thing was recorded at the important Center For Contemporary Music on the west coast, at Mills College – and is almost a Bay Area answer to some of the more compelling art records from the New York scene. The record is divided into 2 parts – "The Park" and "The Backyard" – both filled with a hypnotic mix of voice, keyboards, and tablas! (Out Sound, Spoken Word) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ William S BurroughsCall Me Burroughs ... LP
ESP, 1966. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
The first-ever record to capture the amazing voice of William S Burroughs – the author who helped transform fiction forms in the 60s, but also somewhat of a public figure too – thanks to albums like this! The set's was recorded in France, and given wider circulation in the US by seminal indie ESP Records – and the record presents Burroughs reading from his important novels Naked Lunch and The Nova Express. There's less of the cutup and experimental recordings of other later Burroughs records – but given that the books were both written under the influence of those modes, even the reading of the text still has a very unusual quality – especially given the author's incredible voice. LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has split seams, a cutout hole, and some smuges and a stain on back.)

Langston Hughes & Margaret DannerWriters Of The Revolution ... LP
Black Forum, 1970. Near Mint- ... $29.99
These two important African-American writers share thoughts about their work – in a relaxed setting that also features them reading bits and pieces from time to time. As with most of Langston Hughes' recordings, his voice is incredible, and it's great to hear him present his own poems in his unique lanquid style. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear and aging.)

✨✧ Marc MacInvisible Soldiers ... LP
Omniverse (UK), 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of those great little mixtape projects from the mighty Marc Mac – a set that mixes together his own beats and keyboards with a range of spoken passages taken from a history of Civil Rights and political activism! The set's not the first time that Marc's done this sort of thing, but we're still amazed at the way he manages to bring together snippets of the past and give them new relevance with his own music – maybe in part because some of these issues are maybe more important today than ever! Titles include "Dying For The Cause", "Black Buffalo", "Justifiable Reasons", "This New World", "Tuskegee Symphony", "Shells Like Rain", and "A Grateful Nation". (New Grooves, Spoken Word) LP, Vinyl record album
