Amiri BarakaIt's Nation Time ... LP
Black Forum/Motown, 1972. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $22.99 24.99
An amazing record that's as powerful as the political message of the title – the hippest record ever cut by Amiri Baraka, and that's saying a heck of a lot! Baraka delivers a long and complex set of poetic reflections on the state of Black America, spiritual awakening, and political redemption – set to musical backings that shift from funky, to jazz, to avant, and back again. Players on the set include Gary Bartz, Lonnie Liston Smith, Idris Muhammad, and Reggie Workman – and there's a host of additional players, percussionists, and vocalists that join Amiri in the delivery of his message. Titles include "Answers In Progress", "Peace In Place", "Bad News For Your Highness", "Was Gon Happen", "All In The Street", "Pamoja Tutashinda", and "Pull The Covers Off". One to listen to when you get past your Last Poets records! LP, Vinyl record album

Brother TheodoreFate Conspires With Destiny To Do Me Dirt – 1959 to 1972 ... CD
Omni (Australia), 1960s/Early 70s. New Copy ... $16.99 19.99
Completely bizarre work from Brother Theodore – a strange postwar cultural figure who'd arrived in the US from a rescue of the holocaust hellhole of Dachau, then reinvented himself as an offbeat actor and monologist! Theodore's got a very strange voice, one that's partly inflected by his accent, but which mostly comes from the pointed way he presents his word – often with rolling consonants, and this sense of acting, even when speaking – which is what he mostly does on the record, save for some added musical effects and very slight production twists. Theodore briefly worked with Orson Welles, and there's almost a Welles-like sense of creativity and pomposity on these recordings – which were just part of the Brother's calling card, as he spent years doing his act in New York clubs, and also spent some time on the west coast too – a surprisingly strong underground figure. This release brings together the 1959 Coral Records album Theodore In Stereo, plus two tracks recorded for the PIP label in 1972, and one unreleased track – with titles that include "The Willow Landscape", "Quadrupedism", "The Curse Of The Toad", "Lisolatta Bindfel", and "I'm Just Plain Folks". Eddie CanoTaste Of Education ... LP
CP, 1972. Very Good ... $14.99
One of the most obscure albums from Latin piano giant Eddie Cano – recorded after his famous groovers of the 60s! The record's an odd one, but it's got some great moments – partly a Spanish language instruction record, but with music by Eddie – so that you'll have these spoken parts teaching spanish, while Eddie grooves along with some rhythms and piano. The mix is strangely compelling, and the album does feature two nice instrumentals too. (Latin, Spoken Word) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear, and a small bit of pen.)
