Mu IchizokuMu (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
Polydor/Universal (Japan), 1977. New Copy (reissue)... $40.99 48.99
An album with a very striking cover, but which features music done for the more warm-tinged program Mu – a 70s drama represented here by a really great range of different themes! The mix of modes is great – one tune might have a playful Fender Rhodes solo, another a more serious koto line, and another might have groovy use of sitar, or slide guitar, or other inventive instrumentation – all to illustrate the different scenes and characters in the show! There are slight moments of sentiment, but the music is never sappy at all – and in a way, the whole thing really reflects the way that the Japanese listening scene was so strongly influenced by Euro soundtrack styles of the late 60s and very start of the 70s. All titles are in Japanese, and the set is instrumental throughout! LP, Vinyl record album
(Great Japanese pressing – nice and heavy, with obi!)

VariousThey Move In The Night (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
Numero, Mid 1960s. New Copy ... $21.99 26.98
A very cool soundtrack, and one that offers up a weird and wonderful mix of modes from the mid 60s – bits of surf guitar, garage rock, country, and more – all brought together in a wonderfully evocative mode that hardly needs the images of the offbeat film on the screen! The whole thing is a really great dip into a 60s underground that's not often as well represented in the world of compilations and reissues. Titles include "Tropic Waters" by Steve Waltner, "Melody On The Moon" by The Travelers, "Crying Guitar" by Johnny Blue, "Walk Through The Valley" by Kay Johnson, "Far Away" by Ron Heiss & The Low Notes, "Tarantula" by Jody Reynolds, and "Lost Horizon" by Tommy Dae's High Tensions. ✨✧ Isaac HayesShaft (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
Enterprise/Stax, 1971. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A landmark album that hardly needs any introduction – as it's one of the most famous soundtracks, if not soul records, of the 70s! Isaac Hayes had already surprised music fans with the sophistication of his first few solo albums, which had been issued before this one – but with Shaft, he did the inconceivable, as the album was one of the first times a pop musician had scored, not just sung on, an entire soundtrack. Plus, the soundtrack's super-huge – running as a double-length batch of tracks that was a rarity for the often-slim soundtrack market. Includes many great funky numbers – both vocal and instrumental – including "Theme from Shaft", "Cafe Regio's", "Walk from Regio's", "Bumpy's Lament", and "Do Your Thing", in the nice 19 minute long version! ✨✧ GoblinContamination (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
Cinevox (Italy), 1980. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Spooky keyboards galore – and a classic horror soundtrack from Goblin – done with just the right blend of rock influences and film score modes to live up to their well-deserved legacy! As on other records, the approach here is more that of a rock group – with guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums as the main instrumentation – but the sound is less jamming and very spare at times – so that these familiar elements get a weird sort of twist, and head into styles that are as tense as some of the images on the screen! A few numbers get slightly funky, but overall things are more in a slasher-type mode – and titles include "The Carver", "Rush", "Time Is On", "Ogre", "Quiet Drops", "Bikini Island", and "Flood". ✨✧ GoblinRoller (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
Cinevox/AMS (Italy), 1976. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A non-soundtrack album from Goblin – but one that's right up there with the spirit of their classic scores for director Dario Argento! The tunes here are a bit longer, and spin out with a great mix of funky rhythms and electric keyboards – Fender Rhodes and clavinet, mixed nicely with tight basslines and fuzzy guitar – really showing the group's earlier rockish roots, but handled with the lean, jazzy style that would make them kings of the Italian soundtrack scene of the 70s. Titles include the long versions of "Aquaman" and "Dr Frankenstein" – which were both used later in Suspiria – and other cuts include "Roller", "Goblin", "Snip Snap", and "Il Risveglio Del Serpente". ✨✧ Goblin (Simonetti/Pignatelli)Phenomena (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP
AMS/Cinevox (Italy), 1985. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A seminal Italian horror soundtrack, played by the great Goblin, and created for this totally creepy film by Dario Argento! The band are using a lot of airy keyboards and electronics here – in broad washes of sound filled with evil and darkness, instead of some of the group's usual funkier rhythms. Not that the whole score's slow and moody, though, because some of the tracks have a nice early 80s electronic feel – like late Tangerine Dream, or instrumental Ultravox. Plus, a few themes have very haunting vocals, set to very creepy orchestrations! Titles include "The Wind", "Sleepwalking", "Jennifer", and "Jennifer's Friends". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Giovanni FuscoIl Sesso Degli Angeli ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1968. New Copy ... $14.99 18.99
A killer 60s soundtrack from Giovanni Fusco, but one that has some great help that really sends the whole thing over the top in a great way – arrangements from Gianfranco Reverberi, and some vocals at points from I Cantori Moderni! Reverberi would later rise up in the world of prog, and here he brings in some nice beat/rock elements to the mix – fuzzy guitar, electric bass, and other elements that blend in nicely with the fuller orchestrations on the set – all at a level that offers just a hint of the psychedelic vibe that's referenced on the cover! Titles include the great "Pink Purple Yellow & Red" in both vocal and instrumental versions, performed by The Sorrows – plus lots of other instrumentals from the film! CD
(Limited edition of 500 copies!)

Quincy JonesMirage – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Mercury, 1965. Very Good+ ... $13.99
An overlooked, but very groovy soundtrack by Quincy Jones! The record has a mix of easy jazz and a few harder-edged themes – dramatic throughout, but with washes of crime jazz, bossa, and some floating easy scoring. Players aren't listed, but you can bet they're the usual high-level crop of jazzmen that Quincy would get for his mid 60s Mercury sides. Titles include "Dead Duck", "Purple Prose", "Boobie Baby", "Shoot To Kill", "A Shot In The Park", and "Turtles Last Lap". LP, Vinyl record album
(Red label mono pressing. Cover and vinyl have a drill hole. Cover has a a spot of ring wear on the bottom, but looks nice overall.)

PrinceMusic From Graffiti Bridge ... CD
Paisley Park, 1990. Used ... Just Sold Out!
The fourth Prince soundtrack in less than a decade – and a record that follows nicely after Purple Rain, Batman, and Parade, but with a slightly different spirit too – thanks to an ever-expanding Paisley Park family that included George Clinton, Morris Day, and Mavis Staples! The older funk acts are fine, and add to the spice – but it's clear that the main attraction here is Prince, although The Time are pretty darn welcome too! The set features vocal performances from Tevin Campbell, George Clinton, Mavis Staples, TC Ellis, and Robin Power – and titles include "New Power Generation", "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got", "Love Machine", "Tick Tick Bang", "Shake", "Thieves In The Temple", "Still Would Stand All Time", "Graffiti Bridge", and "The Latest Fashion". Sonny & CherGood Times – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Atco, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $7.99
A very groovy soundtrack, for a very groovy little movie – the quirky Good Times, directed by William Friedkin, and kind of the precursor for the Sonny & Cher TV show! The record differs a bit from the usual Atco album by the pair – in that, along with the vocal numbers, it also features some great instrumental bits by Sonny – which are arranged by Harold Batiste with a swirling LA pop groove that recalls the best genius of the Gold Star generation! Titles include a fab instrumental version of "I Got You Babe", plus the tracks "I'm Gonna Love You", "Trust Me", "Good Times", and the sublime long number "Just A Name". LP, Vinyl record album

Disneyland, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Very cool little record based around Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room ride. The LP comes with a cool book with lots of pictures of the exotic ride, and the music's a mix of Polynesian themes conducted by George Bruns, and original music composed and conducted by Camarata, who did a lot of the music for Disney. The record includes a narrated tour of the Jungle Cruise by Thurl Ravenscroft, and the whole thing's very groovy! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Cream/Iron ButterflySavage Seven ... LP
Atco, 1968. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Typical biker movie fare – but this time around played by some more famous groups! The album was put together by Mike Curb – the guy who crafted so many knock-off groups for Tower and Sidewalk biker soundtracks – and truthfully, Mike doesn't produce the work on the album by the big stars. Cream do a nicely gentle jazzy number called "Anyone For Tennis", and the fuzzy instrumental "Desert Ride" – and Iron Butterfly perform "Iron Butterfly Theme" and "Unconscious Power", plus some other instrumentals that are more in keeping with work on other Curb soundtracks. Barbara Kelly & The Morning Good do the rest of the album – very much in that instrumental rock vein that you'd get on other Curb scores – running through a pretty nice mix of instrumental tunes that includes "Savage Struggle", "The Medal", "Here Comes The Fuzz", and "Shacktown Revenge". ✨✧ Mdou MoctarAkounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai ... LP
Mississippi/Sahel Sounds, 2015. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the best Tuareg guitar records we've ever heard – and the Saharan psych soul soundtrack to Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai, billed as the first ever Tuareg language fiction movie – loosely inspired by Purple Rain! The film, like Prince's, focuses on the life of a struggling, motorcycle riding, soulful electric guitar genius, but Mdou Moctar wisely doesn't try to be deliver Saharan riff on the Minneapolis sound. His epic, hypnotic to the point of trancelike electric guitars are front and center, but never in a self-indulgent way, always in service of the moody compositions. Backed only by rhythm guitarist Ahmoudou Madassane and drummer Mahmoud "Achcouscous" Ahmed Jabre, the trio delivers an appropriately cinematic Saharan sound. Amazing! Titles include "Sibidoul", "Rhaicha's Theme", "Iblis Amghar", "Tahoultine", "Adounia", "Chimoumounin", "Jagwa", "Mdou's Theme" and "Tada Dounia". (Global Grooves, Soundtracks) LP, Vinyl record album

Hip, hazy Sunset Strip psych tunes from the mid 60s American International exploitation flick Psych-Out – that notorious flick starring Susan Strasberg, Dean Stockwell, Bruce Dern and Jack Nicholson as Stoney! Totally killer stuff from The Seeds, trippier, flute-y and organ washed grooves from Strawberry Alarm Clock and thematically titled numbers from The Storybook! Includes "The Pretty Song From Psych-Out" , "Psych-Out Sanctorum", "The Love Children" and "Psych-Out" by The Storybook – plus "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow" and "The World's On Fire" by Strawberry Alarm Clock, "Two Fingers Pointed At You" by The Seeds and the crazy, brazen "Purple Haze" ripoff "Ashbury Wednesday" credited to Boenzee Cryque – performed by Jack Nicholson's group in the flick!
