Bee Gees/Richard Hewson Orchestra —
Melody ... LP Polydor (Japan), 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold ...
Out Of Stock
A very groovy soundtrack to this cool British film – starring a young Jack Wild in his pre-HR Puffenstuff days! The film's kind of a mod kids film – with a number of bright and peppy tunes mixed with others that are either more serious or more jazzy – a blend of rock and more familiar soundtrack instrumentation that really keeps things interesting! The Bee Gees contribute a number of great tracks – like "Melody Fair", "In The Morning", "First Of May", and "To Love Somebody". Even better, though, are the instrumental bits by the Richard Hewson Orchestra – which include "Teacher's Chase", a killer groover with some sweet electric harpsichord and strings, plus the cuts "Working On It Night & Day", "Spicks & Spacks", and "Melody Fair". Peter Knight put the whole thing together, too! LP, Vinyl record album

James Brown —
Black Caesar ... LP Polydor, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold ...
Out Of Stock
James Brown gets even better than before – working here in the setting of a blacksploitation soundtracks – which makes the album a doubly funky outing from the 70s! James is a master throughout – beating Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield at their own games – as he works with super-tight work from the JBs, plus a bit of vocals from Lyn Collins – all in a massive batch of tracks that further expand his funky palette! Unlike other blacksploitation soundtracks, which usually have one or two key funky tunes, this one's almost entirely overflowing with gems – including Lyn Collins on a version of "Mama Feelgood" that's worth the price of the record alone! The whole thing's great, though – and titles include the classic "Down & Out in New York City", plus "Blind Man Can See It", "Sportin' Life", "The Boss", "Dirty Harri", and "Chase". (Soul, Soundtracks)LP, Vinyl record album
(70s die-cut cover pressing – vinyl is clean, and cover is very nice. Capitol Records club pressing.)

Vladimir Cosma —
Alexander ... LP Polydor, Early 70s. Sealed ...
$8.99
Mostly lush and laidback tunes, written by Cosma for this strange little French film from the early 70s – about a guy who spends most of his time as a shut in! The track does have a great theme – the tune "Where Is The Summertime", which is performed in a great bossa nova version at one point – with tightly dancing rhythms, and some great whistling organ that makes the track sound a bit like a Lalo Schifrin tune! There's one or two other numbers with a similar groove on the set – and tracks include "Piano Sweet Piano", "Rhythm In The Afternoon", "Bird Watchers", "Flirtation In The Grass", and "The Dog". LP, Vinyl record album
(Sealed original pressing! Cover has one bumped corner, and a cutout mark.)

Georges Delerue/Melina Mercouri —
Promise At Dawn ... LP Polydor, Early 70s. Sealed ...
$1.992.99
Melina Mercouri and director Jules Dassin team up once again for this early 70s dramatic film. Music is by Georges Delerue, handled in the typical style of his more serious work at the time – with plenty of dreamy touches and more dramatic moments. The soundtrack also sports a strange vocal number called "I'm Greek", with arrangements by Alan Gourager and vocals by Melina. Instrumental numbers include "Romain's First Love", "The Friend's Farewell", "Various Professions", "Promise At Dawn", and "The Arrival In France". LP, Vinyl record album
An album with a very striking cover, but which features music done for the more warm-tinged program Mu – a 70s drama represented here by a really great range of different themes! The mix of modes is great – one tune might have a playful Fender Rhodes solo, another a more serious koto line, and another might have groovy use of sitar, or slide guitar, or other inventive instrumentation – all to illustrate the different scenes and characters in the show! There are slight moments of sentiment, but the music is never sappy at all – and in a way, the whole thing really reflects the way that the Japanese listening scene was so strongly influenced by Euro soundtrack styles of the late 60s and very start of the 70s. All titles are in Japanese, and the set is instrumental throughout! LP, Vinyl record album
(Great Japanese pressing – nice and heavy, with obi!)
(Cover has light wear and a trace of a price sticker.)

Carlo Rustichelli —
L'Homme Presse ... 7-inch Polydor (France), 1977. Near Mint- (pic cover)...
$9.99
A rare EP for the film L'Homme Presse – music that has this open, floating sort of vibe – light strings, and isolated piano lines – almost at a level that's like some of our favorite French composers from the early 70s. There's some lightly classical touches, but the sound is quite contemporary overall – with a moody vibe that reminds us of some of the darker moments from Francis Lai. (Funky 45's, Soundtracks)7-inch, Vinyl record
An amazing soundtrack from German maestro Peter Thomas – even weirder and more electric than some of his famous 60s recordings! Thomas scored the music for a spooky 70s film about the possibility of aliens on earth – and did so with a bit more tension than some of his other records – mixing in some dark tones, weird sounds, and other odd elements amidst some more familiar space age-styled themes. Instrumentation often mixes conventional orchestrations with electronics and offbeat percussion – the latter of which brings an earthy, organic undercurrent that you might not expect, and which really sets the record apart from anything else at the time. A few key cuts have the trademark groovy feel you'd expect from Thomas – including the classic "Stars & Rockets" – and other titles include "Reminiscences Of The Future", "Popular Myth & The Destruction Of Sodom", "The Red Sea", "Gods From Strange Planets", "Returning To The Stars", "Rocket Science", and "Easter Island". LP, Vinyl record album
One of the stranger pairings of artists to ever appear on record during the 80s – but maybe that's no surprise, as Dune was also one of the stranger films of the decade! Toto seems like an odd choice for a movie directed by David Lynch – but in their own sort of way, they do a pretty decent job on their own tracks here – catchy numbers that were probably used by the studio to try to make a bit more sense of the narrative – and things are balanced out a bit by one contribution from Brian Eno, the nice "Prophecy Theme" in the film. Other tracks include "The Floating Fat Man", "Robot Fight", "Leo's Theme", "Main Title", "Paul Meets Chani", and "Dune". LP, Vinyl record album
A big moment for a guy who started out in Aphrodite's Child! Features the epic "Chariots Of Fire" theme, beloved of beach runners everywhere! LP, Vinyl record album
Side four includes mid-60s tracks by James Brown, Kingsmen, Booker T & The MGs, Cascades, Chiffons, Ronnettes, and the Crystals. (Rock, Soundtracks)LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeves. Cover has a small cutout notch.)
Features performances by The Who, Elton John, Eric Clapton, and Tina Turner. (Rock, Soundtracks)LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeves. Cover has ring and edge wear, some scrapes and smudges from price sticker removal, and is bent a bit at the front panel.)
