✨✧ John LewisMilanese Story – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Atlantic, 1962. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A wonderfully mellow record by John Lewis – recorded with some great European jazzmen! Lewis leads the group on piano – and he's joined by Bobby Jaspar on flute and tenor, Giovanni Tomasso on bass, and Rene Thomas on guitar. The tracks are long, and a number of them also feature a string quartet behind the jazz group. Titles include "Monday In Milan", "Danielle In The Lion's Den", "In A Crowd", and "Winter Tale". ✨✧ John BarryMore Things Change – Film, TV, & Studio Work 1968 to 1972 ... CD
Ace (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Our favorite chapter in the long and storied career of film score legend John Barry – music from a moment when he'd moved past the fame of his earlier James Bond soundtracks, and started hitting territory that was even more mindblowing overall! Barry was already great with Bond, and as those films moved on, he developed this amazing ear for more sophisticated, subtle elements – which unfold here at a level that easily puts the composer/arranger in territory of much more lauded studio and sound library talents! There's still some catchy vocal tunes in the mix – but what's even more striking is Barry's evolved sense of sound and timing – so that familiar instruments can sound all weird and unusual – yet still tuneful too – almost as if he were running over to the European avant garde to borrow a few sonic ideas, then fold them into the groovier numbers included within. The set features some of our favorite John Barry tracks ever, mixed with other more obscure numbers that are equally great – tunes that include "Follow Follow", "The Adventurer", "Highway 101", "The More Things Change", "Theme From The Appointment", "Fun City", "Midnight Cowboy", "Theme From Romance For Guitar & Orchestra", "We Have All The Time In The World", "Afternoon", "Theme From The Persuaders", "Lion In Winter", and "Who Will Buy My Yesterdays". ✨✧ Bob DoroughMultiplication Rock ... LP
Capitol, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Sure, it was silly stuff when we were kids – but once De La Soul sampled "Three Is The Magic Number", this record became one of the most prized in our possession! And thanks to that hip hop reintroduction, we've really fallen in love with the music again over the years – partly because the tunes are all so groovy, and partly because we've really come to know the jazz-based work of composer Bob Dorough! At the time of this set, Dorough was coming off some great work in the 60s – his own rare recordings, music for Spanky & Our Gang, and others – all of which seems to inform these math-based tunes written for Saturday morning TV. The tunes are all pretty darn catchy, and often quite jazzy – and instrumentation often features some great electric piano nestled in alongside the vocals. Dorough sings the lion's share of the work for this album – although Grady Tate sings on two numbers, and Blossom Dearie on one more. Titles include the amazing "Three Is A Magic Number" – plus "Lucky Seven Sampson", "Little Twelve Toes", "Ready Or Not Here I Come", "I Got Six", "Naughty Number Nine", "Figure Eight", and "The Four Legged Zoo". ✨✧ Rudy Ray Moore & The Soul Rebellion OrchestraDolemite ... CD
Generation International/Traffic, 1975. New Copy ... Just Sold Out!
Quite possibly THE mother of all funky soundtracks – the legendary score to Rudy Ray Moore's classic first Dolemite film! The record's been referenced for years, and all the hype is totally right – because the whole thing's overflowing with funky tracks both vocal and instrumental – cut with a sound that's as gritty and badass as the movie itself! The Soul Rebellion Orchestra provided the wicked instrumental grooves for the set – and vocalists include Mary Love and Ben Taylor – and the pacing of the whole record almost makes it come across like a mini-movie in sound! You'll find enough samples on here to cut a lifetime's worth of hip hop LPs, and the funky tracks will have you coming back to the record again and again! Tracks include "The Queen", "The Rumble", "Mayor Get Away", "The Jive Jungle", "Creeper", and "Ghetto Expressions". (Soul, Soundtracks) CD

Johnny WilliamsHow To Steal A Million ... LP
20th Century, 1966. Near Mint- ... $14.99
Mid 60s magic from Johnny Williams – a cool little score to an obscure heist film that starred Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole! The style here is very much like some of Johnny's other best of the time – often playful at points, but warmer at others – a great blend of fuller strings and more whimsical instrumentation that keeps up all the delightful play of the action on the screen. Titles include "Two Lovers", in both vocal and instrumental versions – plus "At Maxims", "The Cellini Venus", "The Prowler", "Simon Says", and "The Can Can". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono black & gold label pressing. Cover has a small cutout hole, some ringwear, and some small application wrinkles at the right side.)

✨✧ Hugo Friedhofer/Lionel NewmanBoy On A Dolphin ... LP
Decca, 1957. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A mostly dramatic score to this mid 50s film that starred Alan Ladd & Sophia Loren – written by Friedhofer, and peformed here by Lionel Newman and the 20th Century Fox Orchestra. There's some nice exotic themes running through the mix – but most of the material is handled in the orchestral style of Newman's regular work. Mary Kaye sings lead vocals on the title track "Boy On A Dolphin" – and other tunes include "The Cafe", "The Dive", "Mondraki Bay", "Love Scene", "The Captive", and "The Acropolis". Johnny Gregory OrchestraTV's Greatest Detective Hits ... LP
Compleat, Mid 1970s. Sealed ... $4.99
Excellent work from Brit easy bandleader John Gregory – an assortment of 70s police and crime themes, played by a big band with a nice soundtrack-y finish! Nearly all the tunes are uptempo, and the feel of the record is very much in the same vein as Henry Mancini's Cop Show Themes album – although perhaps with a bit less electronics. Titles include "Cannon", "The Rockford Files", "Kojak", "Six Million Dollar Man" and more. (Now Sound, Soundtracks) LP, Vinyl record album
(80s issue, still sealed with a thin cutout notch and Very Special Price sticker.)

Jack Nitzsche, Willy De Ville, Mutiny, & OthersCruising ... LP
Columbia/Lorimar, 1980. Near Mint- ... $13.99
Strange mix of tracks for this film that has Al Pacino going undercover in New York's gay scene of the 70s. Most of the tracks are discrete songs, not instrumentals, and produced by Nitzsche. Jerome Bailey and Mutiny turn in one funk number called "Lump", and other tracks include "Lions Share" by The Germs, "Spy Boy" by John Hiatt, and a few others by Willy DeVille. LP, Vinyl record album
(White label promo. Cover has light wear and a promo stamp.)

Simon & Garfunkel/Dave GrusinGraduate – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Columbia, 1968. Very Good+ ... $6.99
A tremendous little soundtrack – even if you've seen it a million times! Simon & Garfunkel always had a really dark quality to their music, but it never seemed to show as much on the pop charts as it did when used brilliantly by Mike Nichols in this important film. Their tunes emerge in slightly different versions, with a style that's a bit more adult and more off-center than we remember – all sitting next to some groovy instrumental tunes score by a young Dave Grusin, and shifting the mood nicely from track to track. Titles include "Whew", "Scarborough Fair/Canticle", "The Singleman Party Foxtrot", "April Come She Will", "On The Strip", "The Folks", "Mrs Robinson", and "Sounds Of Silence". LP, Vinyl record album

Armando TrovajoliYesterday, Today, & Tomorrow ... LP
Warner, Mid 60s. Near Mint- ... $11.99
A nice little soundtrack by the great Trovajoli – scored for an Italian sex comedy starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni! The film's divided up into three segments with three different themes – the first of which is historical, the other two of which are great and groovy! The "Anna" segment features three strong jazz numbers – "Anna With The Rolls", "Descansado", and "Flowers For A Poor Millionaire". The "Mara" segment is the best, though, with some groovy jazz and organ bits that are similar to Trovajoli's best late 60s work. Titles include "Mara", "Rome, Don't Be Stupid", and "Portrait Of MM". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono pressing. Back cover has a date in pencil.)

✨✧ Geoff LoveBig War Movie Themes/Big Concerto Movie Themes ... CD
Vocalion (UK), 1971/1972. Used ... Out Of Stock
Geoff Love galore – two instrumental albums from the 70s – back to back on a single CD! War Movie Themes features Love's recasting of famous themes from military films – including some classics from the 50s and 60s, given a slightly lighter reading here as a great device that still lets you enjoy the famous themes – yet without all the heavy drama of the original soundtrack! Titles include "Is Paris Burning", "Colonel Bogey", "Lawrence Of Arabia", "The Guns Of Navarone", "The Longest Day", and "Where Eagles Dare". Concerto Movie Themes features famous concerto moments from older soundtracks – brought back to life in stunning sound by Geoff Love, whose recordings here really make the best of 70s studio technology! Most numbers are from classical sources, but re-arranged for a famous film appearance – then recast here by Love – usually with a piano in the lead. Titles include "Warsaw Concerto", "The Way To The Stars", "Theme From Grieg's Piano Concerto", "Cornish Rhapsody", "Theme From Concerto In B Flat Minor", and "Spellbound Concerto". (Now Sound, Soundtracks) CD
