✨✧ Alessandro AlessandroniFormula 1 Nell'Inferno Del Grand Prix ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1970. Used ... Just Sold Out!
One of the grooviest racing soundtracks we've ever heard – a set that's a lot more funky than some of the better-known racetrack film scores that were coming into the racks during the late 60s! The vibe here is almost a bit like some of the sound library material of Alessandro Alessandroni – lots of great melodic elements, wrapped around rhythms that are nice and slinky on the slower moments, and downright funky on the faster ones – mostly instrumental, but with just a bit of vocals at points from I Cantori Moderni – that very cool harmony group that Alessandroni used on many recordings. The instrumentation is never too complex, and the focus feels more small combo than some of the larger orchestrations on Italian scores at the time – served up here in an assortment of 20 tracks from the film! Fabio FrizziFrizzi 2 Fulci – Undead In Austin ... CD
Beat (Italy), 2018. Used ... $18.99
A recent live performance by Italian soundtrack legend Fabio Frizzi – recorded in America as part of a tour designed to support Frizzi's surprising return to the spotlight in recent years! In fact, the Frizzi heard here is even more in the spotlight than ever before – still using the evocative modes of his soundtrack creations, but also putting forward more vocal songs as well – handled by a group of younger musicians working with Frizzi, in a style that moves between the keyboard soundtrack styles of the 80s generation, and some of the more full-on sounds of earlier Italian prog! The whole thing was recorded in a church – and titles include "Suono Aperto", "Oltre La Soglia", "Silver Saddle", "With You", "Movin On", "Chaco", "Bunny Love Song", "Zombi 2", "Sette Note In Nero", "Rusty Games", "The Weeping Woman", and "Un Gatto Nel Cervallo". ✨✧ Fabio FrizziFrizzi 2 Fulci – Live At Union Chapel ... CD
Beat (Italy), 2014. Used 2CD ... $14.99
A cool re-creation of the best soundtrack modes of Fabio Frizzi – particularly his scores for the films of Lucio Fulci! The performance is a live one, but done with a very classic vibe – played by a small combo that mixes keyboards, guitar, and rhythms with some light strings to really capture the creepy vibe of Frizzi's best soundtrack material – served up here in a mix of instrumental tracks that occasionally feature vocals – with music from the films Manhattan Baby, Zombi 2, Paura Nella Citta Dei Morti Viventi, Beware Of Darkness, and more! Titles include "Bunny Love Song", "Silver Saddle", "Baby Sequence" (numbers 1-4), "Zombi 2", "Wast It All In Vain", "Rusth Games", "Luca Il Contrabbandiere", "Voci Dal Nulla" and more. CD

Ennio MorriconeChosen (Holocaust 2000) – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1977. Used ... $14.99
Nice to know that we've lived past the year 2000 – and have managed to miss the holocaust that Kirk Douglas fought in this late 70s film! The movie's just the kind of overdone thriller that Kirk handled late in his career – but thankfully, the music from Ennio Morricone is much deeper overall – done in that brilliant blend of creepy styles that could make anything come together on the screen, even without any good special effects or dialogue! Some numbers have spooky, spare passages with earthy percussion and woodwinds, others have offbeat strings, some have some light electric elements – and overall, the music is nicely understated, always classy, and years ahead of some of the cheaper horror scoring of the time. CD features a whopping 33 tracks in all – the fullest version of the soundtrack we've ever seen – with titles that include "Holocaust", "Computer", "Slogan", "Jesus", "Il Bene Cattivo", "Serie Di Tre", "Strofa Monodica", and "Telefonata Interrotta". Riz OrtolaniCannibal Holocaust – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1980. Used ... $14.99 18.99
One of the coolest, grooviest soundtracks we've ever heard from Riz Ortolani – an artist who did bigger, more mainstream film scores in the 60s – but who really developed a more electric vibe in the 70s! This soundtrack has Riz working at the top of his powers – bringing in keyboards and guitars to really spice things up, and make for a few key funky moments – but also still handling some larger charts with the professional flair he always brought to his music – showing that the best horror work of this time still came from composers who had deeper skills than just a few slick keyboard lines. Titles include "Love With Fun", "Massacre Of The Troupe", "Cameraman's Recreation", "Adulteress' Punishment", "Savage Rite", and "Drinking Coco". CD version has a huge amount of bonus tracks – 10 more tunes added to the original soundtrack! CD

✨✧ Ennio MorriconeSai Cosa Faceva Stalin Alle Donne ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1969. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A killer Morricone soundtrack from the late 60s – filled with sweet tunes and moodier numbers – all served up with cool orchestrations, and some sweet work on electric harpsichord too! The score's lesser-known than some of the maestro's best from the time – but is equally great, and one we're very happy to discover – caught at a mode that still has Morricone using some of his best mod elements from the 60s, yet also beginning to explore the darker sounds that would unfurl even more strongly in the 70s! Bruno Nicolai conducts the group, and the set features a few great vocal moments from I Cantori Moderni – on titles that include "Scherzo Da Guerra", "Scherzo Da Baffone", "Filastrocca Per Cretini", and "Lo Sai Che Cosa Facevano Le Donne A Stalin". ✨✧ Ennio MorriconeIl Giudice E Il Suo Boia (aka End Of The Game) ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1975. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of the more unusual Morricone scores of the 70s – penned as part of a collaboration with director Maximilian Schell, and done in ways that are a bit different than some of the maestro's Italian work! There's plenty of voices at play here – the lead of Edda Dell'Orso, and harmonies from Il Cantori Moderni – used in ways that are sometimes a bit sweeter than usual, with a level of warmth that might not be what you'd expect from the movie! Morricone also throws in a few waltz-like melodies, too – almost the sort of numbers you'd find in a Nino Rota score – but as the soundtrack moves on, things get noticeably darker, too – and move into a rich array of odd sounds and weird tones. CD features a huge amount of tracks issued for the first time ever – a total of 31 tracks that includes "Fox Astratto", "Caduta E Ripresa", "Shake Del Giudice", "Balletto Col Morto", "Meditazione Melodica", and "Fuga In Svizzera". ✨✧ Guido & Maurizio De AngelisPiu' Forte Ragazzi – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1972. Used ... Out Of Stock
A groovy little soundtrack – put together by the DeAngelis brothers for one of the earlier pairings of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer – with a sound that's arguably better than most of their later soundtracks! There's plenty of playful elements in the mix – the kind of jaunty grooves that always seemed especially well suited to Hill's moments onscreen – but there's also some great 70s moments too, of the sort that push forward from mod 60s Italian comedy grooves, with some nice exotic and bossa touches on a few of the best tracks. Instrumentation is a lot richer than other Hill/Spencer scores – and the CD features a whopping 23 tracks that include "Flying Through The Air", "Gli Amici", "Valzer Fra Amici", "Il Matto", "Samba", "Bossa", "Plata & Salud", and "Il Ballo". ✨✧ Francesco De MasiArizona Colt – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1966. Used ... Out Of Stock
Horns, harmonica, and more – all wrapped up beautifully in the hands of soundtrack maestro Francesco De Masi! The core music for Arizona Colt is done with these soaring brass parts that really recreate the scope of the scene – bursting forth in full, yet gentle modes that really stretch out for the sky – intercut with mellower, more isolated sounds on harmonica from Franco DeGemini or guitar from Alessandro Alessandroni! I Cantori Modern sing just a bit on the record – especially on two vocal versions of the theme, sung by Raoul – and the CD features a whopping 31 tracks in all, with great remastering – and titles that include "Gordon Guitar", "Agguato Al Passo", "Sentieri Misteriosi", "Arizona Ferito", "Attesa E Dolore", "Arizona Colt", "Jane E Arizona", and "Preludio Strip Tease E Fuga". ✨✧ Francesco De MasiSartana Non Perdona – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1968. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great late 60s western score from Italian composer Francesco De Masi – hitting on all of favored sounds to accompany the best Italian made westerns of the era – rustic solo guitar, string-tightened tension, both lonely and densely orchestrated horns, and swaggery mood to spare! Excellent work that hits all the right notes – and it's got a groovy vocal opener, to boot! This CD marks the first ever release of the complete score, mastered from the original mono tapes. "Maybe Somwhere, Maybe Someday", plus "Non Potro Domenticare", "Sogni Ed Ombre Nell'Incubo", "La Pista Nella Sabbia", "Ecce Homo", "Triste E Sospeso", "Un Giorno Ti Pentirai", "Passagio Ne Nistero" and many more. ✨✧ Francesco DeMasiVado L'Ammazzo E Torno ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1967. Used ... Out Of Stock
Just the sort of spaghetti western soundtrack to remind us why we love the genre so much – especially the way so many different musical elements can come into play at once! Swirling strings, twangy guitar, bold brass, and lots of odd percussion all come together beautifully – at a level that's both strongly signifying the Italian western, yet which really pushes for its own sense of individuality as well – almost like a series of small vivid paintings in music. The CD features great sound, and titles that include "Vento E Whisky", "Mexico Western", "Deadly Waiting", "Marisol", "Dead's Looking Out", "Riding And Whistling", "Stranger", and "Three For Gold". ✨✧ Nico FidencoSupercolpo Da 7 Miliardi ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1967. Used ... Out Of Stock
Great early work from Nico Fidenco – an Italian composer we know best for his sexy work in the 70s – but who still sounds equally great here on a 60s intrigue thriller! There's some great mod touches on a few numbers – groovy tunes that have a shake and jerk rhythm that really keep things playful – mixed with a few more brooding tracks that definitely flesh out the sound – showing some mellower moments that make the record way more than just a handful of catchy instrumentals. Most styles are pretty tuneful – and there's a cool organ mode that really jumps out nicely and keeps things interesting – especially amidst the driving drums and guitar. CD features 18 tracks in all – including two vocal versions of the tune "If You Go Away". CD

✨✧ Fabio FrizziUn Gatto Nel Cervello ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1990. Used ... Out Of Stock
That's a pretty creepy looking kitty on the cover, and the soundtrack's got an equally creepy sound to match – very much in the best 80s horror mode of the maestro Fabio Frizzi! The soundtrack's definitely got the keyboards and fuzzy compressed guitar lines you'd expect – but there's also some nicely expanded modes, too – even with a few jazzy inflections from time to time, but scored in the period instrumental style. The main theme is especially great – with this nice spacious, almost funky kind of vibe – almost more a 70s cop/crime suspense groove than you'd guess from the date of the film. This CD version is the best that's ever been issued – and features a whopping 27 tracks in all, including some unreleased titles. CD

✨✧ Vasco Vassil KojucharovDjango Il Bastardo – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of the more obscure entries in the Django series of Italian spaghetti western films of the 60s – but one that's got a really wonderful soundtrack, penned by one of the more obscure artists to provide music for the Italian scene too! Vasco Vassil Kojucharov really echoes some of the coolest styles of his contemporaries here – from driving themes, to nicely moody numbers that might have a piano line echoing in space, or a spare fuzzy guitar bit making a bold statement before a moment of action! And as with others of this nature, there's also a few sweeter moments – that really great balanced of moods and timing that Morricone hit with Once Upon A Time In The West – maybe copied a bit here by Vasco, but in a really great way. 26 tracks in all! ✨✧ Gianni Marchetti/Stelvio CiprianiVita Segreta Di Una Diciottenne ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
A soundtrack that's every bit as sexy as you'd guess from the cover – composed by Gianni Marchetti, conducted by Stelvio Cipriani, and served up with all the groovy touches you'd expect from either maestro! The scoring mixes light strings with warmer keyboards, guitar, and bits of woodwinds – often slinky and floating, but sometimes coming across with a bit more punch – especially on a few cuts that have these very cool wordless vocals! There's plenty of elements of the erotic style that Cipriani would unfurl even more strongly in the 70s – but mixed with a range of more dynamic sounds as well, thanks to Marchetti. Titles include "Arioso Ma No Troppo", "Psicoamore Quartetto", "Il Segreto Di Una Diciottenne", and "Psicoamore" from the original album – plus 30 tracks from the score of the film! CD

✨✧ Franco MicalizziDa Corleone A Brooklyn ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1979. Used ... Out Of Stock
A Corleone in Brooklyn – what could be better? Yet this Brooklyn is a 70s one, and gets scored by Franco Micalizzi in a really great way – funky at times, with other cool Italian scoring elements at others – all given a slight late 70s twist in the instrumentation and production, but in ways that still avoid some of the disco cliches of other soundtracks of the period. The whole thing is still nicely overflowing in the best cop/crime modes that we love from Italian 70s work – the sorts of grooves that make that nation's funky soundtracks an equal match for Shaft or Superfly! 17 tracks in all – and very funky. ✨✧ Ennio MorriconeBianco, Rosso E Verdone ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1981. Used ... Out Of Stock
A really great little soundtrack – an unusual comedic moment for Ennio Morricone, and scored with this very groovy blend of light orchestrations, gentle rhythms, and even a bit of bossa! Keyboard lines ring out with this spare, resonant feel on some of our favorite numbers – recalling the best Morricone modes at the start of the 70s, but with a slightly different twist – and the overall approach is way more classy and careful than the usual Italian comedy of this vintage – no throwaway disco or too-cheesy cuts – just the kind of careful sense of sound we'd expect from the maestro. CD features 27 tracks in all – with titles that include "Autostrada", "Dance On", "Bianco Rosso E Verdone", and "Un Povero Emigrante". CD

Beat (Italy), 1971. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
Morricone fans – this one's got it all! The music is completely wonderful throughout, and a great mix of everything that makes Ennio Morricone so tremendous – a bit of bossa here, some funky bits there, and even some spookier slow passages with a nice atonal feel! The main theme of the record is more than enough to get us going – a wonderful tune with wordless female vocals in the best Mondo Morricone mode – but other instrumental tracks follow with some very cool, slow moments – including some great love themes which then lead to some beefier, bouncier numbers that are really great too. This limited 2CD version is great – with a total of 24 tracks that include "La Lucertola", "Magia Nera", "Giorno Di Notte", "Spiriti", "Ancora Ad Est", "Sfinge", "Spostato Ad Est", and "A Lucio Fulci". ✨✧ Ennio Morricone/Gruppo Improvvisazione NuovaGli Occhi Freddi Della Paura (aka Cold Eyes Of Fear) ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1971. Used ... Out Of Stock
A dark and extremely avant garde soundtrack from the great Ennio Morricone – one that's done in collaboration with his own Gruppo Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza – an ensemble with roots in film scoring, but expressions that are more in the mode of 20th century avant! The music is a blend of free improvisation and more straight ahead jazz – with electric guitar, trumpet, violin, and percussion mixed with lots of weird effects and electronics – much more experimental than some of Morricone's more famous soundtracks of the time, and given a nice sense of direction from conductor Bruno Nicolai. The whole thing's incredibly spooky – one of the most turgid scores we've ever heard from the pen of Morricone – and the titles include "Sequita", "Evaporazione", "Dal Sogno E Ritorno", "Folle Folle", and "Notte E Misteri". Expanded version – with 21 tracks in all! CD

✨✧ Piero Piccioni/Francesco De MasiUna Tomba Aperta Una Bara Vuota/ Lo Squatatore Di New York ... CD
Beat (Italy), Late 70s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Italian horror galore – and 2 great soundtracks from the 70s, back to back on one CD! Francesco De Masi served up the score for Lo Squatatore Di New York (The New York Ripper) – and it's got a sweet electric groove that's filled with plenty of slasher touches – fuzzy guitar, driving rhythms, and a few moodier cuts with spare keyboards that get nice and funky. Titles include "New York One Night", Even better, though, is Piero Piccioni's score for Una Tomba Aperta – a hauntingly mellow soundtrack that drifts along with that languid flowing style that Piero used on some of his best erotic scores. A few tunes have some darker, stronger orchestrations – but there's some beautifully mellow ones that slide in a sweet 70s Italian mode. Titles include "Helen Where Are You", "It Means Love", "Haunting Memories", "Moonbeams On The Ruins", and "Dreaming Again". CD

✨✧ SeedsPushin Too Hard ... CD
GNP/Big Beat (UK), Late 60s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great "new" album from the legendary Seeds – not new recordings, but a fresh collection that brings together a fair bit of rare and unissued tracks – along with some of their classics, and some rare pre-seeds material too! The collection is pulled from a soundtrack for the film – the documentary titled The Seeds Pushin Too Hard – but the whole thing works perfectly as a double-length Seeds album on its own – especially as it features a few tracks by other artists that also offer a great bookend to their short but fantastic musical legacy! If you know know The Seeds, you'll recognize their sound instantly – as it was a crucial west coast blast of psych garage that influenced many other groups for years to come – but which is still best heard from the group themselves. Titles include the 14 minute full length version of "Evil Hoodoo" – plus "Pushin Too Hard, "No Escape (take 3)", "Mr Farmer", "Tripmaker (live)", "Out Of The Question (alt mix)", "Can't Seem To Make You Mine", "Try To Understand (take 3)", "Thousand Shadows (1993 mix)", "Up In Her Dream", "Satisfy You (take 3)", "The Gardener (take 1)", "Night Time Girl (take 8)", "Fallin Off The Edge Of My Mind (take 12)", "A Faded Picture", and the very cool "YMCA Spot/Sky Speaks". Also includes "They Say" by Ritchie Marsh, "The Perfect Wave" by Neil Norman, "Baby Please Don't Go (live)" by Muddy Waters, and "The Ballad Of Sky Saxon" by Kim Fowley. (Rock, Soundtracks) CD

✨✧ Piero UmilianiLa Legge Dei Gangsters – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1969. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
Way more than you'd expect from any sort of typical gangster movie – a set of godlike sounds that could only have come from the hands of the great Piero Umiliani! The music is filled with jazzy touches and these stunning deeper currents – served up in a mix of vibes, flute, Hammond, and tenor – often with floating, open qualities that are completely hypnotic, which are then balanced out by tighter jazz passages that really send the whole thing home! The soundtrack is one of Umiliani's best – the sort that first got us appreciating his genius years ago – and in addition to the instrumental tunes, there's also a few vocal numbers sung by Ira and Franco Morselli. 2CD version is bigger than the previous release – with lots of photos from the film, and titles that include "Crepuscolo Sul Mare", "Cosa Mai Sara", "Gangster's Song", "Veni A Dirni Ciao", "Apertura In Jazz", "Tema Dell'Addio", "Very Fast", and "Swing Come Sempre". David ShireFarewell My Lovely/Monkey Shines – An Experiment In Fear ... CD
Film Score Monthly, 1975/1988. Used ... $34.99
2 soundtracks by David Shire – an oft-overlooked film composer, best known for his work on Pelham 123! Farewell My Lovely is a great late Robert Mitchum film – kind of a 70s noir, featuring Mitchum as Philip Marlowe – and the music is kind of a reworking of an older style of dramatic crime soundtrack styles, with the additional of some more off-beat and edgey passages that create a more sinister feel. The score's actually got some nice jazz work by players that include Dick Nash, Don Menza, and Artie Kane – and features 12 titles that include "Mrs Grayle's Theme", "Amthor's Place", "Marlowe's Trip", "Three Mile Limited", and "Moose Finds His Velma". That soundtrack is followed up by Monkey Shines – a dark 80s horror flick, done with a mix of atonal orchestrated numbers, and others that somehow have a sweeter more redemptive feel. Titles include "The Lab", "Death Of A Parakeet", "The Reascent Of Man", "Agon: Man Versus Monkey", and "Asocial Climbing". CD

Gert Wilden & His OrchestraI Told You Not To Cry – Swinging Themes From German Crime Films ... CD
Crippled Dick (Germany), Late 60s/Early 70s. Used ... $8.99
Incredibly groovy work from a set of German crime films of the late 60s and early 70s – all in a very mod and jazzy mode! The music was all done by the legendary Gert Wilden – who also weighed in for Crippled Dick with the excellent Schulmadchen Report collection – and the overall feel is very much in the mode of some of the best Peter Thomas soundtracks from the same generation. There's lots of great twists and turns in the arrangements – and the tunes are not just jazzy, but also feature some great use of organ, vocals, and odd production – making for some wonderfully swinging tracks that have a really offbeat sound. As usual, the whole thing's packaged with some great Crippled Dick touches – and the CD features a total of 20 tracks that include "Oriental Twist", "Desert Hips", "Murder Beat", "Green Spider Theme", "Rolf Torring", "Piano Blues", and "White Cargo".
