✨✧ Don EllisMusic From Other Galaxies & Planets – Featuring The Main Title Theme From Star Wars ... LP
Atlantic, 1977. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great little set – way more than you might think from the cover! Ostensibly, this one's a cash-in album for the mid 70s Star Wars soundtrack craze – but since it's handled by Ellis, it's got a surprisingly funky feel, with many tracks that recall his own great soundtrack work of the time. In fact, the album only has 2 tracks from the Star Wars soundtrack – despite the fact that the logo for the movie is displayed largely on the cover – and all other tracks are originals by Ellis, handled with a sweet mix of electric funk and funky jazz soloing! Lots of nice keyboards, and titles include "Orion's Sword", "Eros", "Lyra", "Ursa", "Vulcan", and "Arcturas". (Jazz, Soundtracks) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a promo stamp, tracklist sticker, and light wear.)

Harold Wheeler/Charlie SmallsWiz – Original Cast Album ... LP
Atlantic, 1975. Near Mint- ... $4.99
The original first recording of The Wiz – the super-soul musical that remade Wizard Of Oz for the 70s! The hits here are familiar, but the music is actually pretty great – handled by hip Harold Wheeler on most numbers, and really stepping forth with a nice mix of soundtrack grooves and bigger orchestrations! Stephanie Mills sings the parts of Dorothy here, but the best vocal numbers are usually the more ensemble ones – which come across with a bit of the badass feel of Melvin Van Peebles' musicals. Titles include the sweet instrumental "Tornado", plus "So You Wanted To See The Wizard", "What Would I Do If I Could Feel", "Ease On Down The Road", "Slide Some Oil To Me", "Home", and "Y'all Got It". ✨✧ VariousGoodfellas – Music From The Original Motion Picture (blue vinyl pressing) ... LP
Atlantic, 1990. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Director Martin Scorcese has always had a great way with music, but maybe one of his crowning achievements in that respect is the soundtrack for the movie GoodFellas – a set of songs that really sets the scene for key moments in the story, and instantly evokes both the time and spirit of the narrative! Most tracks on the record are from the 50s and 60s – in modes that include rock, soul, pop, and doo wop – key cuts chosen by Scorcese that really fit together wonderfully – and which maybe make the record a special look at the past, but seen through the filter of the mob on Long Island! Titles include "Look In My Eyes" by The Chantels, "Stardust" by The Dominoes, "Beyond The Sea" by Bobby Darin, "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream, "Mannish Boy" by Muddy Waters, "Layla (piano exit)" by Derek & The Dominos, "Rags To Riches" by Tony Bennett, "Baby I Love You" by Aretha Franklin, "Remember" by The Shangri-Las, "Sincerely" by The Moonglows, and "Speedoo" by The Cadillacs. John ColtraneBlue World (Le Chat Dans Le Sac) ... CD
Impulse, 1964. Used ... $9.99
A lost treasure from the legendary John Coltrane Quartet – material recorded as the soundtrack for the Canadian film Le Chat Danse Le Sac – which features new recordings of material that Coltrane had done in previous years, but really updated by the fresh version of this group! Although the music was used in the film, which was an art house hit at best, it's never been issued on record before – and in fact, its existence was something of a mystery until not that long ago – quite a surprise, given that the sessions were done at Rudy Van Gelder's studio, and have a quality level that really matches the Impulse Records best by these musicians! The tunes are almost like this amazing bridge between the mid 60s Impulse years and the Coltrane sound at the start of the decade on Atlantic – as the grooves are modal, and most music is more inside than the group was hitting by 1965 – yet still burning with that searching spirit that made them so great. The lineup, of course, features John Coltrane on tenor, McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums – and the whole thing is an instant key addition to the catalog of this tremendous quartet. Titles include two takes on "Naima", three takes on "Village Blues", and the tracks "Like Sonny", "Traneing In", and "Blue World". (Jazz, Soundtracks) CD

Ennio MorriconeNoi Lazzaroni (180 gram pressing) ... LP
CAM/Digitmovies (Italy), 1978. New Copy ... $34.99 About September 24, 2021
Rare soundtrack work from Ennio Morricone, recorded for an Italian TV series that didn't get any play on this side of the Atlantic! The music has a surprisingly haunting quality, especially for television – almost the darker side of Morricone that you'd hear in the earlier part of the 70s, and less like some of his warmer scores of the time when this one was recorded. Edda Dell'Orso sings quite darkly on a few tracks – really bringing an edge to the music – and there's also a mix of atonal strings and lighter, lilting moments – of the sort we're much more likely to hear in some of Morricone's best cinematic endeavors. Titles include "Tema Borghese", "Tema Popolaresco", "Passione E Misticismo", "Musica Di Strada No 1", "Solo Violini", and "Notturno Senza Lunda". LP, Vinyl record album

VariousHome Alone Christmas (red & green vinyl pressing) ... LP
Real Gone, Early 90s. New Copy ... $27.99 29.99 On October 1, 2021
Back in the day, we never thought the Home Alone movies would go on to become Christmas classics – yet that's definitely been the case over the years – as the movies are shown and re-shown every December, getting plenty of Holiday play in the process. And while the films are set at Christmas, and are not really Christmas movies, they do include a fair bit of Christmas cheer amidst the soundtracks – songs that are pulled together here to form a special album that includes the better Holiday tunes from Home Alone, Home Alone 2, and Lost In New York. Titles include "Please Come Home For Christmas" by Southside Johnny, "Christmas All Over Again" by Tom Petty, "Sleigh Ride" by TLC, "A Holly Jolly Christmas" by Alan Jackson, "All Alone On Christmas" by Darlene Love, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by Mel Torme, "Silver Bells" by Atlantic Starr, and "O Come All Ye Faithful" by Lisa Fischer – plus "Somewhere In My Memory", "Merry Christmas Merry Christmas", and "Carol Of The Bells" by John Williams.
