Andre PrevinElmer Gantry (deluxe edition) ... CD
United Artists/Ryko, 1960. Used ... $3.99
One of the boldest scores we've ever heard from Andre Previn – presented here with both the film music, and the original LP version – plus bonus tracks as well! Previn's usually known for lusher, warmer sounds – and some more playful soundtrack moments, too – but this score is very serious, dramatic, and deep – a full orchestral mode on most numbers, without any traces of Previn's jazzier roots. The music makes for a great accompaniment to Burt Lancaster's role as the title character – and this CD features 12 tracks from the original album, plus 5 bonus tracks. CD
(1998 pressing in the original green tinted case.)

✨✧ Andre PrevinRollerball ... LP
United Artists, 1975. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Most of this soundtrack is orchestral and classical, but the record includes a fantastic funky tune by Previn – the great "Executive Party", played during a tripped-out party scene in the film, and featuring a mix of funky bass, wah wah guitar, and some weird spooky moogy bits that sound really really wonderful! The track's also matched by "Executive Party Dance", which has more moog and some nice organ, and is an almost equally great funky tune! LP, Vinyl record album
(Tan label pressing. Cover has a cut corner and light wear.)

✨✧ Andre PrevinInside Daisy Clover ... LP
Warner, 1965. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A very strange soundtrack from Andre Previn! The film is an obscure Natalie Wood vehicle – about an actress in Hollywood of the 30s – and it appears that Wood is the vocalist on the album's few numbers with lyrics, written by Andre with the help of Dory Previn, making the set one of their earliest collaborations! The vocal numbers are more 60s period sounding than 30s – and the instrumental ones are darker orchestral themes, with quite an edge to them. Titles include "Breakdown", "Swan's Way", "The Career Begins", "Sailboat", "The Convalarium", "The Circus Is A Wacky World", and two versions of "You're Gonna Hear From Me". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Johnny Williams/Dory & Andre PrevinValley Of The Dolls ... LP
20th Century, 1967. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A great little soundtrack – as campy as the film it was written for – and a record that's gone on to be one of the touchstone soundtracks of the 60s! Some of the tunes are more straight numbers by Johnny Williams – a bit dreamy, but with some nice easy touches – but the best tunes are the swinging vocal numbers, like "Give A Little More", "Come Live with Me" and "I'll Plant My Own Tree" – which have the fierceness of the film's characters set loose on record (an important thing in the years before you could watch a DVD copy of the movie at home!) Plus, the album starts out with the great monologue which begins the film – kind of a dreamy narrative about the beginning of the downfall that destroyed the life of Neely Bruce – and leads into tracks that include "It's Impossible", "Theme From Valley Of The Dolls", "Jennifer's Recollection", and "Jennifer's French Movie".
