Modern Sound QuartetCocktail Bar ... LP
Fonovideo/Holy Basil (Italy), 1976. New Copy (reissue)... $28.99 31.99
A sweet cart of electric cocktails from the Modern Sound Quartet – a sound library group that features loads of great keyboards from Italian jazz great Oscar Rocchi! Nearly every track has a different sort of vibe – maybe a change in flavor to match the change in drink names that grace the titles – served up with nicely lean backing, in a way that maybe makes this set similar to some of the classic Italian grooves by The Cabildos from the same time! Most tracks are around the two minute mark – maybe a shot, more than a full cocktail – and titles include "Pernod", "Whisky", "Vodka", "Kirsh", "Curacao", "Rum", "Maraschino", "Gin", and "Strega". Modern Sound QuartetFloreama ... LP
Fonovideo/Holy Basil (Italy), 1977. New Copy (reissue)... $28.99 31.99
A keyboard-heavy set from the 70s, and one that's on the funkier side of the sound library spectrum – thanks to an array of grooves that move with the speed of some of the best cop or crime soundtracks of the time! The main maestro here is Oscar Rocchi – an older Italian jazz player you might know from jazz, but who does a great job here on a variety of electric keys – serving up solos that have a meaningful vibe, next to some of the riffing guitar, snapping drums, and heavier basslines in the groove! Tracks are short, but way more than just fill-in music – and titles include "Narciso", "Myosotis", "Fiordalisi", "Peonia", "Ninfee", "Gladioli", "Rododendri", and "Campanule". LP, Vinyl record album
