Alessandro AlessandroniOpen Air Parade ... LP
SR/Sonor (Italy), 1972. New Copy (reissue)... $37.99 41.99 About April 1, 2024
A gem of a sound library record from one of the all-time greats – and maybe one of the few artists who gave his equal all, whether he was cutting a full film soundtrack, or just a discreet batch of tracks like these in the studio! The music is as groovy as groovy can be – sometimes funky, sometimes slinky – and done in this blend of heavy electric bass, nicely snapping drums, riffing guitar, and some great use of wordless vocals – maybe no surprise, since Alessandroni was the man behind the legendary I Cantori Modern! There's a great sense of variety all the way through – all killer, no filler – and titles include "Vocalisation", "Spiagge Azzurre", "Aliante Giallo", "Ciclamino", "Arioso Spirituale", "Cielo Verde", and "Marmittone". Matt BerrySimplicity ... CD
KPM/Acid Jazz (UK), 2023. New Copy ... $14.99 15.99
A really fantastic pairing of forces – as keyboard collector Matt Berry serves up a special set of instrumental tracks for the KPM sound library – many of which are done on the kinds of keys that KPM were recording back in the day! You might know Matt for his work on screen, but he's also a very devoted musician, with a rich legacy of projects – and although we love his vocals on his more pop-oriented records, this set lets his keyboard skills really come to the forefront! The set features Berry on electric pianos, guitars, bass, and other keyboards – assisted by the funky drums of Craig Blundell, on titles that include "Rising Bass", "Set The Scene", "Simple Basics", "Widescreen Features", "Too Many Hats", "Telescopic", and "Driving Seat". ✨✧ Sandro BrugnoliniL'Uomo Dagli Occhiali A Specchio (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Vroommm/Italian Golden Mondo (Japan), 1973. New Copy ... $28.99 34.99 About April 24, 2024
A rare television soundtrack from Italian jazzman Sandro Brugnolini – easily some of his most hard-hitting work, and a mighty cool record to boot! Brugnolini mixes small combo jazz and some darker orchestrations in a shifting palette of sounds from track to track – which means that some numbers are hard groovers, others have this brooding quality, and still others have this incredible tinkling piano that seems to float in the air – maybe the most gentle passages of the record, but also some of the most eerie too – especially in the way that Sandro mixes darkness and light with effortless ease! Most numbers are short, and work together beautifully – a very vivid record, even away from the images on the screen. Titles include "Aggressione", "Tallonato", "La Notte Muore", "Colluttazione", "Quasi Un Sogno", "Incidente Provocato", and "Tempus Fugit". (Soundtracks, Sound Library) CD

✨✧ Tom DawesElusive – The Tom Dawes Jingle Workshop (clear vinyl pressing) ... LP
Modern Harmonic, Late 60s/1970s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic array of really cool songs – all written and recorded by Tom Dawes of The Cyrkle – as part of a big career as a jingle writer after his group cut a famous theme song for 7 Up! The music here is great – work from a time when jingles for TV and radio ads were like mini songs in and of themselves – often as catchy as anything on the charts, if not more so – so that the tunes you'd hear for a few short seconds would stick in your head all day long! If you dig sunshine pop, there's plenty to love here – and remember that the great Roger Nichols also gave the world a wonderful tune that was originally designed as a jingle. Some of the tracks here never made it to the TV screen, others are classics – and the set includes songs written for Windex, GI Joe, Alka Seltzer, Calgon, Stridex, Murine, Hartford Insurance, Thom McCann, Life Savers, Timex, Ford, and many others. ✨✧ Henryk DebichZblizenie ... LP
Astigmatic (Poland), Mid 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The title here might not roll off the tongue, but the set's full of fantastic funky sounds that will have you fast forgetting you can barely speak the name of the record! Henryk Debich is one of the true European sound library greats of the 70s – but unlike his better-known contemporaries in London, Paris, and Rome, he did most of his work behind the Iron Curtain, for an assortment of radio and TV productions that were never shown on Western screens! Yet with work like this, Debich proves that he's got all the chops of soundtrack and film score greats like Lalo Schifrin or Quincy Jones – as the music is full of great funky rhythms at the core, plenty of riffing guitar and keyboard solos, and even a few more sensitive jazz-based moments too. The set's one of the first to expose the music of Henryk to a larger audience, and as such features notes in English and Polish – alongside cuts that include "Puma", "Wampiry", "Sjesta", "Zblizenie", "Marzanna", "Ostinato Riff", "Blyski I Ciene", and "Wewnatrz I Na Zewnatrz". ✨✧ Paul FerrisWitchfinder General (limited gatefold pop up sleeve) ... LP
De Wolfe/Trunk (UK), Late 60s. New Copy Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A legendary soundtrack from the key years of British gothic horror – music for a film that was creepy enough on its own, but which really got sent over the top with the sounds provided by composer Paul Ferris! Ferris was working with the De Wolfe sound library at the time, but the music is far from just canned cuts thrown into the film – as there's an overall sinister vibe that really fits the spooky narrative of the story, and the super-creepy role of Vincent Price in the lead – augmented by the music with all these dark, downturning touches that are still pretty terrifying, even without the images on the screen. Titles include "Not Selling", "Reunited", "Accused", "The Castle Dungeon", "The Moat", "Stearne Attacks Sara", "Captain Gordon Is That You", "Nearly Home", "A Ride In The Dark", and "Hanging From The Tree". ✨✧ Nino NardiniJungle Obsession (180 gram pressing – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Neuilly/Farfalla (France), 1971. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Mad mad work from the great Nino Nardini – one of the greatest keyboard players to ever grace the sound library scene! This album was never officially issued, but is an incredibly strong bit of "commercial music", created initially for use by radio and TV stations, but just as good as anything that was on the market at the time. The music is a mix of jazz funk and 70s exotica – played on electric and acoustic instruments, mixing piano, moog, and congas into a swirling blend that's similar to the group Mandingo, but which also has lots of other 70s soundtrack elements. The track "Jungle Obsession" begins with a nice little drumbreak, then rolls into some wild bass-y moog riffs punctuated by other bits of computer music. Other tracks have voices, percussion, and even a bit of strings – and the whole thing's an extremely fresh bit of jungle funk! Titles include "White Snake", "Bali Girl", "Murmuring Leaves", "Jungle Spell", "Creeping Danger", and "Mowgli". Features the bonus tracks "Tropical" and "Safari Park". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Walt Disney Studio Sound Effects DepartmentChilling Thrilling Sounds Of The Haunted House ... LP
Disneyland, 1964. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of the coolest records ever produced by Disneyland Records – and one of the creepiest too! The record features one side of raw sound effects – top-shelf level material, of the sort that the Disney crew would save and use in cartoons and films – and the other side features similar sounds, but structured with a more narrative approach – almost making for a record that's sort of a ghost story in sound! Titles include "The Very Long Fuse", "The Dogs", "The Unsafe Bridge", "The Martian Monsters", "Chinese Water Torture", and "Drips & Splashes". (Halloween, Sound Library) LP, Vinyl record album

VariousEscape In Time – Popular British Television Themes Of The 60s ... CD
El (UK), 1960s. Used ... $9.99
Way more than just the usual collection of famous British TV themes from the 60s – as this set offers up some great rare nuggets, unusual versions, and some obscure tracks that are all pretty darn fresh to our American years! As you well know if you're a fan of anything pop culture from this generation, British TV was way hipper than most of the American small screen in the 60s – from the stories, to the settings, to the wonderfully cool themes and backing music that supported the show – often a cool hybrid of postwar Soho jazz modes and lots of the best soundtrack/sound library styles that were evolving in the hands of an elite few on the London scene. Some of the best and grooviest of that generation are presented here – in an overstuffed collection that includes "Gurney Slade" by Max Harris, "Danger Man" by Red Price Combo, "The Avenger" by Johnny Dankworth, "Tuesday Rendezvous" by Bert Weedon, "Face To Face" by Frank Chacksfield, "Comedy Playhouse" by Ron Grainer, "What The Papers Say" by London Philharmonic, "Monty Python's Flying Circus" by Eastman Wind Ensemble, "The Saint" by Les Reed, "Fireball" by Don Spencer, "Z Cars" by Johnny Keating, and a number of tracks from The Prisoner too! (Soundtracks, Sound Library) CD
