Smokey RobinsonEssar ... LP
Tamla, 1984. Very Good+ ... $2.99
Smokey's a little bit off course here – heading into a range of mellow pop soul styles that are clearly inspired by artists who were inspired by Smokey's own majestic solo turn in the 70s – but who never manage to match his quality. And since Smokey's taking inspiration from the uninspired, there's also a quality to this set that feels the weight of that choice. The vocals are fine enough, but perhaps a bit too overly emotive on the ballads – especially for smooth Smokey. The more upbeat numbers have a feel that's trying too hard for a crossover – and even the title (which is a play on Smokey's initials, "SR") is kind of a deal-breaker. Titles include "Train Of Thought", "I Can't Find", "Gone Forever", "Close Encounters of The First Kind", "Little Girl Little Girl", "Girl I'm Standing There", and "Driving Thru Life In The Fast Lane". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cutout notch and a bent corner.)

Smokey RobinsonPure Smokey ... LP
Motown, 1974. Sealed ... $6.99
Excellent mid 70s work from Smokey, recorded right before his landmark Quiet Storm album, and in a smooth sophisticated style that showed that he was definitely on the right track after splitting from the Miracles! The sound here is totally great – a new level of sophistication for Robinson, and proof that he was one of the key folks who would take soul music to new levels in the 70s! The record includes the excellent "Virgin Man", a loping midtempo track that's not only a great stepper, but also a famous sample riff. Other tracks include "I Am I Am", "Fulfill Your Need", "Just Passing Through", "The Love Between Me & My Kids", and "It's Her Turn To Live". LP, Vinyl record album
(Reissue pressing. Cover has a cutout notch.)

✨✧ Smokey RobinsonTouch The Sky ... LP
Tamla, 1982. Very Good ... Just Sold Out!
Smooth Smokey at the height of his powers – gliding along in the quiet storm groove that he helped to invent, and still sounding surprisingly down to earth – thanks to an intimate and relaxed feel to the set! Despite the date of the album, the instrumentation is nicely restrained, and still mostly has an organic feel – with lots of sweet electric piano in the lead from co-producer Sonny Burke, and a jazzy studio feel overall – one that never challenges Smokey's vocals for dominance. Titles include "Touch The Sky", "Even Tho", "Gimme What You Want", "Gone Again", "Sad Time", "All My Life's A Lie", "Dynamite", and "I've Made Love To You A Thousand Times". LP, Vinyl record album

Smokey RobinsonYes It's You Lady ... LP
Tamla, 1982. Near Mint- ... $4.99
A slightly more-grooving record than some of Smokey's others from the time – done in a style that rolls around in a mostly-midtempo mode. There's almost a gentle 80s groove approach at times, although some of the tunes on the set are definitely in that stone mellow love song style that was Smokey's biggest trademark of the time. Titles include "Are You Still Here", "Tell Me Tomorrow", "Yes It's You Lady", "The Only Game In Town", "International Baby", and "Merry Go Ride". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesTime Out ... LP
Tamla, 1969. Near Mint- ... $14.99
Kind of a mixed bag of numbers from Smokey and the group – who are clearly searching around here for a new sound that will take them into the 70s, working in a number of different modes – all of them still pretty nice, thanks to the always-great vocal talents of the group. Titles include "Doggone Right", "The Hurt Is Over", "You Neglect Me", "Abraham, Martin, & John", "The Composer", "For Once IN My Life", and "I'll Take You Any Way That You Come". TemptationsReunion ... LP
Gordy, 1982. Very Good+ ... $4.99
An all-star effort from The Temptations – and a well-titled set that has the group brimming over with classic vocal talent! The group's expanded to a seven-piece outfit for the album – with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin back in the fold, singing alongside Dennis Edwards, Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, and the rest of the group! Motown also culled together some top-shelf production talent for the set too – including Berry Gordy, Rick James, Barrett Strong, and Smokey Robinson – all of whom produce numbers for the record. Some of the tracks are in an 80s groove modes, and others are mellower ballads that offer plenty of space for vocal interplay – and titles include "I've Never Been To Me", "Backstage", "More On The Inside", "Standing On The Top", "Lock It In The Pocket", and "You Better Beware". ✨✧ Tammi TerrellIrresistible (180 gram yellow vinyl pressing) (2021 Black Friday Release) ... LP
Motown, 1968. New Copy (reissue)... On November 26, 2021
An irresistible solo album from the great Tammi Terrell – the Motown singer who's best remembered for her duets with Marvin Gaye, and who hardly ever got a chance to work on her own! Despite that lack, though, this album's a standout classic – a slightly different take on the female Motown sound of the 60s, with production by Harvey Fuqua and Johnny Bristol – in a vibe that's maybe just hinting a bit at the sound to come – which makes us wonder how much Terrell would have given us in the 70s, if she hadn't passed from this planet all too soon! Titles include cuts by Smokey Robinson, Johnny Bristol, and Fuqua himself – with tracks that include "I Can't Believe You Love Me", "Come On And See Me", "What A Good Man He Is", "He's The One I Love", and "Can't Stop Now (Love Is Calling)". (Note: This item is not for sale online until 7:00am on Saturday, November 27.
