✨✧ Brother ResistanceTonite Is De Night/Rapso Space Dub/Crucial Decision (92 version)/Nation Time ... 12-inch
Cree (Germany), Late 80s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Great grooves from Brother Reistance – tracks that are aimed at the dancefloor, but which also have a strong social message too! "Tonite Is De Night" is a cool call to action, set to a rhythm with tight tropical touches – and "Crucial Decision" is presented here in the 1992 version, with skittish rhythms topped with a nice steel drum keyboard part! "Rapso Space Dub" is unreleased, and a nicely spooky sort of groove – and "Nation Time" is a great late take on the tropical disco mode! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ BlackbyrdsCity Life ... LP
Fantasy, 1975. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A fantastic album from this legendary jazz funk combo – a bit smoother than their first, but that's the great thing about it! The record has the band getting even tighter than before – coming up with an amazing jazz-inflected funk groove that still leaves us breathless after all these years – and which is the perfect fusion of jazz and soul that was going down with the best groups in the mid 70s. The best example of this sound can be heard on the massive cut "Rock Creek Park" – which begins with a wonderful bass on the intro, a killer moogy keyboard bit, and a super-catchy chorus that goes "doin' it in the park," which you should recognize in about 30 seconds! The rest of the album is great too – and titles include the classic sample track "Love So Fine" – plus "Happy Music", "Hash and Eggs", "Thankful Bout Yourself", and "All I Ask". ✨✧ Patrick CowleyAfternooners ... LP
Dark Entries, Early 80s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
The continuing lost legacy of Patrick Cowley – the San Francisco 80s club maestro who made some famous records with Sylvester – but who also did a huge amount of underground sounds for porno films at the time! This set digs deep into that legacy – by featuring music that Cowley did for the 1982 film Afternooners, as well as a few other tracks from the time – material that's a great 80s extrapolation of the sorts of slinky funk you'd know from 70s porn! The sounds here are heavy on beats and keyboards – a much more slowed-down take on territory that Cowley explored on his club singles of the period – and the basslines are plenty heavy, and very seductive – as you might imagine, given the images they were used with on the screen. We should tell you that the package does include a few nude images inside – so be warned if you're offended by that sort of thing. Titles include "Love Come Set Me Free", "Big Shot", "Surfside Sex", "Hot Beach", "The Runner", "One Hot Afternoon", "Leather Bound", and "Bore & Stroke". (Soundtracks, Soul) LP, Vinyl record album

DC LaRueFace of Love (Johnny Juice rmx, DJ Spinna rmx, Mell Starr rmx UB 7" edit)/Indiscreet (Johnny Juice rmx, DJ Spinna rmx, Mell Starr rmx UB 7" edit) ... 12-inch
Fraternity/Pyramid Disco, 1979. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)... $10.99
New mixes of two classic club tracks from DC LaRue – but mostly done in ways that completely change up the groove! "Face Of Love" is handled in versions by Johnny Juice, DJ Spinna, and Mell Starr – and Mell and Spinna keep the more classic vibe, but work out some very different elements – while Johnny Juice makes the whole thing almost feel like a hip house number! The approach is a bit similar on the flip – as the Juice mix of "Indiscreet" has a fair bit of hip hop elements – while Spinna chooses to focus on the massive bassline of the cut, and Mell makes the whole thing feel like a party! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Motown, 2020. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A great mix of new cuts and older classics – all used alongside the main soundtrack in this mindblowing film! We loved the movie, and sometimes the visual power onscreen made us forget how many great tracks were used alongside – nicely corrected here with all cuts given full length presence in the package. Titles include "Cedes Benz" by The Dream, "Searching" by Roy Ayers, "Runnin Away" by Blood Orange, "Standin At Yo Door" by Little Freddie King, "Catch The Sun" by Lil Baby, "Guarding The Gates" by Lauryn Hill, "My Money My Baby" by Burna Boy, "Doomed" by Moses Sumney, "Soul Sista (rmx)" by Bilal and Raphael Saaqiq, "Yo Love" by Vince Staples, "Queen & Slim" by Coast Contra with BJ The Chicago Kid, and "Getting Late" by Syd.
