✨✧ Johnny NashI Can See Clearly Now ... LP
Epic, 1972. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A massive crossover from Johnny Nash – a record that gave the 70s the chart-topping title hit, and which helped Johnny mix his Caribbean roots with contemporary soul! The set's a huge change from the sometimes-faltering styles Nash had tried in the 60s – often a bit more mainstream than he was able to do well, which is why the deeply personal approach of this album's such a striking contrast. Nash arranged and produced himself, and really hits a vibe here that stands out even from his other 70s recordings – beautifully balanced, on titles that include "Comma Comma", "Guava Jelly", "Stir It Up", "I Can See Clearly Now", "We're All Alike", "How Good It Is", "Cream Puff", and "You Poured Sugar On Me". Diana RossDiana Ross Live At Caesars Palace ... LP
Motown, 1974. Near Mint- ... $6.99
A fantastic early demonstration of the solo powers of Diana Ross – a live date from Vegas, and one that has her commanding the stage not just as a singer of soul music, but as a female star ready to rival the talents of any of her contemporaries in the mainstream! Ross shines here with a brilliant brightness right from the start – working with a large ensemble that echoes all her best Motown roots, but which also pushes things out in fuller, more vibrant modes too – as Diana runs through tracks that include old soul favorites, jazz standards, and even some surprising choices from the charts – at a level that's filled with poise, class, and soul throughout. Titles include a great "Supremes Medley", plus "Don't Rain On My Parade", "Corner Of The Sky", "I Love You Porgy", "My Man", "The Lady Is A Tramp", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", and a "Lady Sings The Blues Medley" with titles from the Billie Holiday songbook. (Original pressing in the window cover, with a cutout notch. Window has been opened, but is still in great shape.)

VariousWigan Casino Soul Club – Station Road, Wigan 1973 to 1981– The Original Sound Of Northern Soul, Popcorn & R&B ... LP
Charly (UK), Late 1960s/Early 1970s. Very Good+ ... $19.99
A searing set of vintage soul cuts – brought together in honor of the legendary Wigan Casino – one of the most important clubs in the UK Northern Soul scene of the 70s! For the uninitiated, Wigan was a hotbed of upbeat rare soul cuts – overlooked American goodies from both the previous decade and more recent years – often with a strong focus on deeper soul vocals, which meant some strong entries from the southern scene as well! This well-done package comes with a heavy book-style cover, notes on the club and its music – and a whopping 28 tracks in all – including "I Can't Hide It" by The Appreciations, "Baby What Has Happened To Our Love" by The Ringleaders, "The Night The Angels Cried" by Johnny Dynamite, "I'm A Teardrop" by The Jerms, "Your Love Makes Me Lonely" by The Chandlers, "Watch Yourself" by Tony Hester, "Does Anybody Know What Time It Is" by Copper & Brass, "Can I Be Dreamin" by The Young Savages, "She's Fire" by The CODs, "Could It Be" by Mikki Farrow, and "Your Wish Is My Command" by The Inspirations. ✨✧ Mary Jane Girls/Bobby NunnCandy Man/Sexy Sassy (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
Motown, 1983. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A tasty 80s pop soul number from the Mary Jane Girls, produced by Rick James, and showcasing his ever-growing command of the mainstream soul market at the time! This longer single version offers a fair bit more than the chart version of the cut – not only a much more extended take on the tune, but also a slightly heavier groove as well! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in a Motown sleeve.)

✨✧ Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse – Live At Glastonbury 2007 (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Republic, 2007. Near Mint- 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A legendary live set from Amy Winehouse – a concert performance that helped cement her status as one of the true soul legends of the 21st Century – before she was taken away from us all too soon! A few years before, nobody would have guessed that up-and-coming Amy would have been able to command such a large arena presence – and she manages to do so here while still staying very true to herself, and to the kind of deep soul presentation that always made her such a standout from the pack. Titles include "Rehab", "Me & Mr Jones", "Cupid", "F*ck Me Pumps", "Tears Dry On Their Own", "Monkey Man", "You Know I'm No Good", "Valerie", "Cherry", "Wake Up Alone", "Back To Black", and "Hey Little Rich Girl". ✨✧ Roy AyersYou Might Be Surprised ... LP
Columbia, 1985. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Roy Ayers in a tight mid 80s funk mode – commanding a modern vibe really well, especially with his vibes so prominent in the sound! Although the sound's a step or two more modern than the Polydor years, Roy still sounds great – and he grooves nicely on this batch of tracks that mix his older jazz funk style with an 80s groove sound that has slight touches of electro. This mix of modes is really unique for the time, with Roy embracing the new school without completely letting go of his trailblazing personal approach. Jean Carn sings lead vocals on the cut "Can I See You", and the album also includes the nice stepper "Programmed For Love", plus "Virgo", "Night Flyte", and "For You", a smooth mellow cut that's got great vocals by Roy! ✨✧ Roberta FlackBustin Loose – Original Soundtrack ... LP
MCA, 1981. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the more obscure Roberta Flack albums from the classic years – but maybe not as obscure as the movie for which it was created – as the strength of the record has helped the album circulate a lot longer than the film stayed on the screens – to the point where it's a great chapter of Roberta's rich career, and one that goes way past the hits! Flack produced the whole set herself – and there's a nice mix of modes going on here, including some jazzier bits that get to showcase keyboards nicely – played both by Flack and by Barry Miles. Peabo Bryson sings on one track, and Luther Vandross helped Flack with the vocal arrangements – on titles that include "Love Always Commands", "Lovin You Is Such An Easy Thing To Do", "Rollin On", "Qual E Malindrinho", and "Hittin Me Where It Hurts". ✨✧ Dennis CoffeyGoin' For Myself ... LP
Sussex, 1972. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Nobody handled a fuzz guitar better than Dennis Coffey back in the early 70s – and this album's one of his masterpieces of funky instrumental work for the Sussex label – cuts that show just how much command Coffey had of the electric strings after a number of years working in both the studios and the clubs of the Detroit scene! Coffey's work here is between the genres in a really great way – heavier than soul instrumental material of a few years before, tighter than electric guitar jazz funk of the time, and with some of the understanding of new phrasing that the psych years brought in – all served up perfectly on a set of wicked cuts co-arranged with longtime musical partner Mike Theodore. Titles include the classics "Ride Sally Ride" and "Taurus" – the latter of which was his similar sounding follow-up to "Scorpio" and other titles include "Can You Feel it", "Midnight Blue", "Toast & Jam", "Man & Boy", "It's Too Late" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water". ✨✧ MoonglowsReturn Of The Moonglows ... LP
RCA, 1972. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Excellent album that Harvey Fuqua put together with his old band during the time that he had emerged as a successful soul producer at RCA working with bands like The Nite Liters and The New Birth. The album features the group reprising some of their classic doo wop tracks, and giving them a 70's edge with the help of a small combo that includes Norman Harris, Bobby Eli, and Vernon Bullock. One highlight includes a great remake of "Sincerely" that has a nice break and a good groove to it. Other goodies are "The Ten Commandments", and "Most Of All". Better than you'd think!
