Vanilla FudgeVanilla Fudge ... LP
Atco, 1967. Very Good ... $5.99
One of the coolest concepts for a record in the 60s – and a set that's the first, and maybe crowning achievement of Vanilla Fudge! The set's mighty trippy – and often offers up very weird, fuzzy remakes of songs that were more mainstream hits for other artists in the 60s – tunes by The Beatles, Zombies, Impressions, and others – taken into really weird new territory by the group's jamming fuzz guitar, stark rhythms, and dark sensibilities. Genius Shadow Morton produced and directed the whole thing – which is one of his crowning achievements, and a great commentary on some of the more mainstream pop he was producing at the time. Titles include "Illusions Of My Childhood", "Eleanor Rigby", "Ticket To Ride", "Bang Bang", "She's Not There", "Take Me For A Little While", and "You Keep Me Hanging On". LP, Vinyl record album
(Purple & tan label pressing. Cover has some wear, aging, and a piece of tape on the top seam.)

RCA/Wounded Bird, 1971. New Copy ... $3.99 11.99
Post-Vanilla Fudge work from Mark Stein – who sings, and plays both piano and organ! The sound is every bit as heavy as the Fudge – maybe even heavier, as there's a confidence here that has the quartet very firmly in the earliest years of hard rock, coming on strong with a full presence at points, but also able to lay back and deliver a mellower tune without breaking down their sound at all. Titles include "Juke", "Fisherman", "Hard Times", "The Peddler", "Cynthia Fever", "Brother's Coming Home", and "Mockingbird". CD also features the bonus track "Montreal Jail". CD
(CD case has a small cutout hole.)

✨✧ Teegarden & Van WinkleAn Evening At Home With Teegarden & Van Winkle ... CD
Atco/Wounded Bird, 1968. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Really cool work from the duo of David Teegarden and Skip "Van Winkle" Knape – a pair who work here with just drums from one member, organ from the other – and some mighty nice harmonized vocals! The approach is almost like a Fillmore crowd take on the modes of Sam & Dave – nicely stripped-down and surprisingly soulful, without any other instrumentation in the mix at all – save for the bass pedals of the organ, which help enforce a nice groove with the drums! The album was originally issued on an indie label, then picked up by Atlantic – and it's got all the heaviness of some of that label's early hard rock gems by acts like Iron Butterfly or Vanilla Fudge, but a very different vibe overall. Titles include "Today I Left For The Big City", "Alright Mama", "Bring It On Home (parts 1 & 2)", "Woman Child", "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love", and "Scarborough Fair/Canticle". CD
