DonovanGift From A Flower To A Garden (Epic) ... LP
Epic, 1967. Very Good- 2LP Box Set ... $11.99
One of the trippiest albums ever from Donovan, as you might guess from the title – a double-length gem that's filled with wonderfully groovy tunes! The set was cut during Donovan's killer years with producer Mickie Most in the late 60s – and it's got an instrumental feel that's even more laidback than some of his others from the time – mostly hip small combo instrumentation that features organ from Mike O'Neil, flute from Harold McNair, and vibes from Mike Carr – all done with some hip jazzy touches underneath Donovan's lead acoustic guitar – a folk-funk blend that's totally great, and which clearly set the scene for countless other imitations to come! Nobody can touch Donovan's charm at this point, though – and the album's a treasure through and through – filled with great tunes that include "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", "Skip A Long Sam", "Sun", "Little Boy In Corduroy", "Oh Gosh", "Under The Greenwood Tree", "Song Of The Naturalist's Wife", "Lay Of The Last Tinker", "The Lullaby Of Spring", "The Magpie", "Epistle To Derroll", "The Land Of Doesn't Have To Be", and "Mad John's Escape". LP, Vinyl record album
(Yellow label pressing, including the booklet. Box has split corners, wear and stains.)

CatfishGet Down/Live Catfish ... CD
Epic/BGO (UK), 1970. New Copy 2CD ... $8.99 16.99
Two classics from Catfish – back to back in a single set! First up is the self-titled Catfish – a killer classic from Bob "Catfish" Hodge – a hell of a singer from the heady Detroit scene of the 60s, and one who really made his mark with this fantastic debut on Epic Records! Bob's a blues-inspired artist at the core, but he opens up here with enough freak and fuzz to match the music of Shuggie Otis at the start of the 70s – thanks to great guitar from Mark Manko – and like some of Shuggie's first two sets on Epic, the whole thing is a mad mix of blues and rock, funk and soul – with searing guitar solos that really hold the whole thing together! The whole thing's a seminal effort for pushing this style of music past any blues rock cliches – and titles include "Catfish", "No Place To Hide", "The Hawk", "Sundown Man", "Tradition", and "Catfish/Get High Get Naked Get Down". Live Catfish is maybe the best-known of the two classic Catfish albums from the start of the 70s – a searing live set recorded in the group's hometown of Detroit, with a raw, ragged style that sets them up with all of their other hip contemporaries in the Motor City! This time around, Dallas Hodge handles the guitar with a mix of blues roots and freaky fuzz – a perfect match for the rough-edged vocals of Bob "Catfish" Hodge – as the group starts the set with Motown material, the moves into some even headier tunes of their own! Titles include "Money", "Nowhere To Run", "Letter To Nixon", "Mississippi River", and "Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On". CD

Cheap TrickAt Budokan ... LP
Epic, 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $13.99
A seminal set from Cheap Trick – a group who had already cut some excellent studio albums before this one, but who somehow finally reached huge fame in the mainstream with this classic concert release! The album is one of the greatest, most iconic live rock records of its era – in which the to that point under-appreciated Cheap Trick (in the US at least – as you can hear the wild screams, they had the love elsewhere) midwestern powerpop progenitors FINALLY broke through and cemented their legend! LP, Vinyl record album
(Blue label pressing, with obi and booklet! Obi has some crimps in the center and clear tape holding the bottom. Label on Side 2 is torn around the spindle hole due to a manufacturing flaw.)

ClashGive Em Enough Rope (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Epic (Japan), 1978. Used ... $28.99
The second album from The Clash – ferocious, melodic and masterful bits of barbed greatness from the group – the greatest flaw of which is that it's not the first album. They're still completely great, playing in peak form even with the less shambling, slightly more polished production of Sandy Pearlman. This one stands out beautifully to us nowadays, since most of the songs aren't as overplayed as the more zeitgeiest-y earlier ones or the Mtv hits that came later on. Essential!! Titles include "Julie's In The Drug Squad", "All The Young Punks", "Last Gang In Town", "Guns On The Roof", "Cheap-Skate", "Drug-Stabbing Time", and "Safe European Home". CD

ClashSandinista! (Japanese paper sleeve edition – 3CD set) ... CD
Epic (Japan), 1980. Used 3CDs ... $33.99
The longest album ever from The Clash – a stunning triple LP set that really shows the group bristling with new ideas and energy throughout! There's a hell of a lot going on here – some cuts that are every bit as strong as the previous records, others that offer a few mis-steps but in a wonderfully playful way – and a few more that really hit this sort of unique mix of genres and politics that could only be summed up as Clash-like at its best! Bits of hip hop, reggae, new wave, funk, and more mix together beautifully – and the album's got a hell of a lot of charm and character, even if you're skipping past a few of the cuts you don't like as much as the others. 36 tracks in all – and titles include "The Magnificent Seven", "Hitsville UK", "Junco Partner", "The Leader", "Police On My Back", "Midnight Log", "The Call Up", "Washington Bullets", "Broadway", "Rebel Waltz", "Look Here", "The Crooked Beat", "Somebody Got Murdered", "Lose This Skin", "Charlie Don't Surf", "Kingston Advice", "Corner Soul", "Let's Go Crazy", "The Sound Of Sinners", "Living In Fame", "Silicone On Sapphire", and "Career Opportunities". DonovanBarabajagal ... LP
Epic, 1968. Very Good ... $4.99
Donovan at his jazzy best – really picking up where Mellow Yellow left off, and pushing the jazz influences in his sound to deeper lengths! Mr Leitch is a million miles away from his Dylanesque early roots on the set – and is working in territory that's completely his own – a beautiful blend of folk, psychedelic, and jazz-based modes – handled with simple charm throughout, and performed by a group that includes funky sound library genius Alan Hawkshaw on piano, and the great Harold McNair on flute! The title track "Barabajagal" is one of Donovan's most amazing tunes of all time – a funky little number that dances around with some great heavy drums, and which also features guitar by a young Jeff Beck! Other titles include "The Love Song", "Trudi", "Atlantis", "Superlungs My Supergirl", "I Love My Shirt", and "Pamela Jo". LP, Vinyl record album

DonovanDonovan In Concert ... LP
Epic, 1967. Near Mint- ... $8.99
A wonderful complement to the Donovan studio albums from the late 60s – a well-recorded live date from the US. The style of the tunes is a bit different than some of their more famous album and single versions – with a relaxed approach to the work that leans a bit more on some of Donovan's folksy roots, but still features the jazzier touches that happened after his mid 60s "transformation" – thanks to plenty of great sax and flute from the legendary Harold McNair, who's a key part of the small combo on the set! Includes "Widow With Shawl", "Preachin Love", "The Fat Angel", "Celeste", "Poor Cow", "There Is A Mountain", "Isle Of Islay", "Young Girl Blues", and "Writer In The Sun". LP, Vinyl record album

DonovanHurdy Gurdy Man ... LP
Epic, 1968. Near Mint- ... $19.99
Easily one of the headiest Donovan albums of the 60s – a record that moves past the simple psychedelic pop of earlier hits, and into a range of mind-expanding themes and styles! There's a cerebral quality here that seems to take hold even on the simpler, catchier tunes – a deeply introspective approach that has Donovan working in a world that's really all his own – less concerned with hit singles, and more focused on a personal journey in music, one that ties together many strands of music borrowed from Celtic, West Indian, jazz, and folk sources. Arrangers are John Cameron and John Paul Jones – and titles include "Get Thy Bearings", "Peregrine", "The Entertaining Of A Shy Girl", "West Indian Lady", "Jennifer Juniper", "Tangier", "The River Song", "The Sun Is A Very Magic Fellow", and "Hi It's Been A Long Time". Epic, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... $9.99
One of the few American albums ever issued by Georgie Fame – a great set of tracks from his early CBS years, put together with a package that was bound to appeal to US fans digging the Bonnie & Clyde movie! The work here is a hip mix of jazz, soul, and R&B styles – all served up with that Georgie Fame charm that made his music unlike anyone else's at the time. And although we're not sure, it appears that there's a few tracks here that might not have been issued on LP back in the UK – as the set list features 11 tracks that include "Mellow Yellow", "Bullets La Verne", "This Is Always", "Side By Side", "Blue Prelude", "Someone To Watch Over Me", "Ask Me Nice", "When I'm Sixty Four", and "The Ballad Of Bonnie & Clyde". Georgie FameShorty ... LP
Epic, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... $6.99
An excellent little album from British vocalist Georgie Fame – one that has him moving way past the simple beat group sound of his roots, into a sophisticated style that mixes jazz vocalizing, hard grooving, and lots of rock/R&B influences! Georgie's still got his Mose Allison-inspired vocal style, but the band behind him is a lot more open-ended, and grooves along freely in these great organ riffing rhythms – open-ended and very swinging on some numbers, but in a way that's different from Fame's rougher-edged roots. Titles include "Oliver's Gone", "Somebody Stole My Thunder", "Fully Booked", "Inside Story", and "Seventh Son". (Vocalists, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album

A pretty great set of sunshine pop – sweet vocals, often in harmony style, somewhere in the range of the Love Generation or Millenium, with slight traces of The Left Banke in the instrumentation. There's a nice use of strings that filters through the records – but the core sound is from the combo, and features some nice keyboards underneath the group's wonderfully full vocal sound. A slightly warmer sound than before from OMD – an album of well put together pop tunes that still hold true to the simple basis of their roots! At this point, the group's really got their sound down wonderfully – and they've also learned how to write slightly better pop hooks than before – still edgey and a bit dark, but also the kind of tunes that make you say "hey, what's this?" more than you might have with some of the earlier records. Spirit12 Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Epic/Legacy, 1970. Used ... $6.99
The crowning achievement of Spirit – and a record that you probably could have found in any college dorm room in the early 70s! The record's really a cut above for their generation – an expansive effort that hangs together with a bit of a concept, and which interweaves strands of rock, folk, and a bit of jazz – yet also a record that has a lot more polish than other efforts of its type, and which trades a bit of psychedelic indulgence for a tighter focus that really lets the best tunes sparkle wonderfully! Production is great – clear, but trippy at the same time – and Randy California's guitar work has never sounded better. Titles include "Nature's Way", "Animal Zoo", "Love Has Found A Way", "Mr Skin", "Soldier", "Street Worm", and "Space Child". CD features 4 bonus tracks – including "Animal Zoo (mono single)", "Morning Will Come (alt mono)", "Red Light Roll On", and "Rougher Road". CD

SpiritFamily That Plays Together (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Epic/Ode, 1969. Used ... $6.99
The second album from Spirit – and a standout powerhouse of late 60s rock! The combo have a great way of hitting a groove without losing their cool – as heard on the classic "I Got A Line On You", which leads off the set – and unlike most of their contemporaries, who could be too bluesy for their own good, or too indulgent to keep a good hook going, Spirit here really know how to dip around all the best bits of the late 60s underground, and bring them into tighter focus for deeper penetration into the mainstream. The sound is driven strongly by drums from Ed Cassidy and guitar from Randy California – but the record's also got some nicely sweeter moments too, bits of jazz that slide into a few of the best tracks to complicate the vibe. Titles include "I Got A Line On You", "It Shall Be", "Poor Richard", "Drunkard", "Silky Sam", "Jewish", "Dream Within A Dream", and "She Smiles". CD features 5 bonus tracks too – "Fog", "So Little To Say", "Mellow Fellow", "Now Or Anywhere", and "Space Child". CD

✨✧ Dino ValenteDino Valente ... LP
Epic, 1968. Very Good ... $39.99
The one-and-only album by San Francisco singer-songwriter Dino Valente – an enigmatic cat best known for penning the hippie anthem "Get Together" – and a much deeper and more adventurous writer then you'd know from that one ubiquitous song! Dino bridged the coffee shop folk scene with sprawling psychedelia on this album. He has the Tim Buckley kind of stream-of-conciousness restlessness, and the record's full of lovely acoustic guitar accompanied by unlikely horn and flute flourishes. Dino was hardly a conventional singer – so the production hand of Bob Dylan knob twirler Bob Johnston couldn't be a better fit. Tracks include "Time", "Something New", "My Friend", "Listen To Me", "Me And My Uncle", "Children Of The Sun", "New Wind Blowing", and "Everything Is Going To Be OK". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ ClashSandinista! ... CD
Epic, 1980. Used 2 CDs ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
CD
