AttackAbout Time! – The Definitive Mod-Pop Collection 1967 to 1968 ... CD
RPM (UK), Late 60s. Used ... $28.99
An incendiary collection of mid-to-late 60s material from The Attack – a proponent of the same UK scene that spawned The Creation and The Who – and influenced later firebrands like The Buzzcocks and other punk era greats! About Time includes the group's Decca singles, rare radio sessions, and previously unreleased records – some with a slight bluesy guitar tinge, but nearly all of them heavy and driving – way ahead of their time! Tracks include "Any More Than I Do", "Feel Like Flying", "Created by Clive", "Try It", "Go Your Way", "Strange House" a groovy cover of "Sympathy For The Devil", "Freedom For You", "Hi Ho Silver Lining", "Magic In The Air (aka Watch With Mother)", "We Don't Know" and more. 19 tracks in all! Nouvelle VagueBande A Part (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Luaka Bop, 2006. Used ... $6.99
A sweet second trip into the world of Nouvelle Vague – a strange place where post-punk tunes mix with bossa rhythms and French pop inspiration! Most of the tracks here are from the darker side of the pop spectrum in the early 80s – tunes that are well-remembered, but which were more underground numbers of the era, mostly recorded by British groups like Yazoo, The Buzzcocks, Bauhaus, and others. Enter Nouvelle Vague, who rework the tracks with lightly skipping rhythms that are far gentler than the originals – stripping out the colder electric modes and fuller production in favor of a bossa-inspired blend of acoustic instrumentation and lightly grooving production – all used as the backdrop for airily-produced vocals from singers who include Melanie Pain, Gerald Toto, Phoebe Tolmer, Marina, and Birdpaula. Titles include "The Killing Moon", "Ever Fallen In Love", "Heart Of Glass", "Shack Up", "Let Me Go", "Fade To Grey", "Bela Lugosi's Dead", "Dancing With Myself", and "Don't Go". Limited US version features 3 bonus tracks – "Moody", "Sweet & Tender Hooligan", and "Blue Monday". (French, Rock) CD
