✨✧ Electric Peanut Butter CompanyElectric Peanut Butter Company – Trans-Atlantic Psych Classics Vol 1 ... LP
Ubiquity, 2015. New Copy 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Sweet and salty psych-soul-rock-funk from Adrian Quesada and Shawn Lee, working together as The Electric Peanut Butter Company! They're a company of just 2, handling every aspect themselves, but if you if ever heard anything by either party, you know this is going to have a huge sound. Lots of fuzzed out psych funk touches on this one – a mix of heady instrumentals and some fun vocal numbers. Shawn handles the singing, and the duo are both multi-instrumentalists and leftfield funk geniuses – managing to work with myriad influences without sounding exactly like anyone but themselves. The drums, guitars and keyboards are masterful here, but there's a lot of cool instrumental and production touches throughout. Vol 1 is actually the duo's second album – the first was Vol 2 (naturally!) – and it delivers on the diverse debut, and then some! Includes "Flexi Funk", "Beer Good", "Spread The Jam", "Stealio", "Tennis Elbow", "Mister Pink", "Austin City Limiter", "Go Go Go", "Damn Skippy", "Jenn Wu", "Fat Budda" and more. ✨✧ Black PearlBlack Pearl ... LP
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Heavy drums and a good dose of soul – both of which make Black Pearl stand out a bit from many of their late 60s contemporaries! There's a definite bluesy undercurrent to the group's music, but the riffs are also pretty hard and fast too – almost a bit funky at times, and delivered with a starker sort of groove than the usual blues rock combo. The musicianship is super tight throughout – really at a superstar level, but without sounding slick or commercial – and the album alone is worth it for the sharp drums and guitar leads, but also sports some pretty great vocals too – with almost a garagey soul sort of feel. Titles include "White Devil", "Mr Soul Satisfaction", "Thinkin Bout The Good Times", "Crazy Chicken", "Forget It", "Climbing Up The Walls", "Reach Up", "Bent Over", and "Endless Journey". LP, Vinyl record album

CloversFive Cool Cats ... LP
Atlantic/Edsel (UK), Late 50s. Near Mint- ... $8.99
An astounding collection of great numebers by the legendary Clovers – a group whose sound was a key force in transforming Atlantic Records during the 50s! The Clovers were an incredibly tight, incredibly consistent quintet – possessed of a rich talent for both sweet ballads and raspier groovers, in a way that helped push vocal harmonies much more strongly into an R&B mode than some of the efforts of groups who came before. This 16 track set features many of the group's best numbers from their Atlantic years – not just the few familiar hits, but a great batch of lesser-known tracks that show just how strong The Clovers sound was overall. Titles include "Devil Or Angel", "One Mint Julep", "Lovey Dovey", "Your Cash Ain't Nothin But Cash", "Nip Sip", "Good Lovin'", "I Got My Eyes On You", "Down In The Alley", "Don't You Know I Love You", "Love Bug" and "If I Could Be Loved By You". Everything But The GirlAmplified Heart (25th anniversary editon) ... LP
Atlantic/Buzzin' Fly, 1994. New Copy ... $26.99 28.99
A later masterpiece from the duo of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt – maybe their strongest record since their early years – and a great way of allowing their always-strong songwriting a chance to find a new sort of groove! In this case, the music is both a step back to the more acoustic colors of their first record or two – and a nod to some of the new rhythms that were coming from the London scene – used here in very subtle but brilliant ways by Watt, who'd soon go on to make some of his own creative sounds in new formats. As always, the vocals of Thorn are breathtaking and heartbreaking in ways we can hardly begin to describe – on titles that include "We Walk The Same Line", "I Don't Understand Anything", "Troubled Mind", "Rollercoaster", "Get Me", "25th December", and "Missing". Flower Travellin BandSatori ... LP
Atlantic (Japan), 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $39.99
One of the heaviest albums to ever come from Japan – a wicked batch of tripped-out, fuzzy tunes to rival the hardest rock from the UK at the time! Flower Travellin Band have a basic approach that's build on pounding drums and rumbling basslines – and although the guitars are fierce too, they're often used with some slight exotic phrasings at times – styles that have a slight Eastern flavor that really adds to the record. The vocals are really wailing too – banshee-styled, but also with some bluesy undertones – and the album is essentially one long track, broken up into different sections with a different feel. ✨✧ King CrimsonIn The Court Of The Crimson King ... LP
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An album so heavy, it blew plenty of minds when first released at the end of the 60s! This set's the first-ever utterance from the King Crimson empire – the initial outing of the group, which featured Greg Lake on vocals, and lots of airy, darkly atmospheric guitar from the legendary Robert Fripp! The song structure is quite unusual – and the overall feel is less academically tangled than some of the later records – a feature that makes this album much more sought out by mainstream rockers looking for an intro to the group than some of the later sets. Yet having said that, there's also a pretty amazing approach here – somewhat obtuse, and definitely not looking for any radio edit hits – more just magical musings from a very unique ensemble. Peter Sinfield contributed the lyrics, which are sung by Lake – and Michael Giles handles drums and percussion, while Ian MacDonald plays flute, sax, keyboards, and more. Titles include "Moonchild", "21st Century Schizoid Man", "I Talk To The Wind", "Epitaph", and "Court Of The Crimson King". LP, Vinyl record album
(Red & green Broadway label pressing, in the textured cover, with some flaking on the spine and a name in pen.)

A wonderful second record from King Crimson – a set that follows in the same territory as the debut – with Greg Lake on vocals and Robert Fripp on guitar and devices – alongside Michael Giles on drums and Peter Giles on bass. There's some great jazzy touches at times – saxes and flute from Mel Collins and piano from Keith Tippet – and Peter Sinfield wrote the lyrics for Fripp's music – and Gordon Haskell sings a bit too. A pretty dark little record from the waning mid 70s version of King Crimson – recorded on tour in the US by a quartet of David Cross, Bill Bruford, John Wetton, and Robert Fripp. The tracks are mostly live takes of tunes from earlier albums – "Easy Money", "21st Century Schizoid Man", "Lament", and "Larks Tongue In Aspic" – done in versions that are considerably more turgid than the originals, with lots of heavy guitar work. ✨✧ Led ZeppelinIn Through The Out Door ... LP
Swan Song/Atlantic, 1979. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Led Zeppelin's final album of the 70s – a record that really has them stretching out and trying on some new ideas, yet still holding onto all their genius in the process! Sure, the album's maybe not as iconic as the first few – but from the perspective of decades later, it's a killer – and still blows away just about all the competition – with that Plant/Page magic that still comes through brilliantly, no matter what the setting. There's a few unusual twists and turns – a bit of Latin here, a slight keyboard there – but overall the main focus is still on the lead duo, getting plenty of heavy drums to keep things moving. Titles include the hits "Fool In The Rain" and "All My Love" – plus "In The Evening", "South Bound Suarez", "Carouselambra", and "I'm Gonna Crawl". LP, Vinyl record album

One of the most monumental debuts in rock history – a record that hit the world like a led zeppelin, and left an impression for years to come! Led Zeppelin pretty much took over rock right from the beginning – which isn't too surprising, given that Jimmy Page had an in-demand guitar heavy for years already – but the power of this debut is still astonishing after all these years – a blistering blend of bluesy roots, psych fuzz, and razor-sharp instrumental dexterity! The whole thing's a gem – and titles include "Good Times Bad Times", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" "You Shook Me", "Dazed And Confused", "Your Time Is Gonna Come", "Black Mountain Side", and "I Can't Quit You Baby". The third in Led Zeppelin's spectacular run of early albums – each one either matching or topping its predecessor, depending on one's personal favorite – and a record with an influence that's as massive as the sound! The record's got a pair of of Zep's best-remembered songs in "Immigrant Song" and their take on the traditional "Gallows Pole", but the whole thing is great – and a great balance of their earlier bombast with a lot more acoustic moments. Other tracks include "Friends", "Celebration Day", "Tangerine" and "Hats Off (To Roy Harper)". LP, Vinyl record album

Hard rock perfected! It's around Led Zeppelin IV that you can easily say that the group moved up from being incredibly great to flat-out legendary – really in a class by themselves, although maybe they'd already reached that point with the sublime sounds of the previous three records! There's a darkness here – and a sense of magick too – an eerie new energy that still has all the balls-out rock power of before, but which has the group moving into this heady territory that's really all their own. The MC5 move to Atlantic Records after their first album – and find a whole new sort of focus that's pretty great! Their classic debut was a raw live album – designed to capture their intensity on the Detroit scene of the late 60s – but this set has the group stretching out, and really going for something else – working in the studio for the first time, with surprisingly strong production from a young Jon Landau – and a sense of focus in the songs that shows a great degree of maturity, while still keeping all their pre-punk edges! Wayne Kramer and Fred Sonic Smith are plenty darn fierce on guitar – and the titles alone give a good idea of the energy of the record – and include "Tutti Frutti", "Teenage Lust", "High School", "Shakin Street", "The Human Being Lawnmower", and "Back In The USA". ✨✧ John PrineDiamonds In The Rough ... LP
Atlantic, 1972. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic early work from John Prine – exactly the kind of sounds that made him so different from both the 60s generation of folksingers, and most of his hip 70s contemporaries too! In one breath, Prine manages to embrace musical worlds that run from New Orleans up through the Mississippi Delta, into Memphis and Nashville, on up to the Chicago scene in which he made his name – which is where the biting wit and special vision of his sound really comes into focus! Prine was reportedly discovered in a small Chicago club by Kris Kristofferson and Roger Ebert – but from the sound of his well-developed talents here, he hardly needed any big names to point him out – as the man's in very comfortable company of his own, working with Steve Goodman on second guitar and David Bromberg on electric guitar, mandolin, and dobro. Titles include "The Late John Garfield Blues", "The Frying Pan", "Billy The Bum", "Clocks & Spoons", "The Great Compromise", "Take The Star Out Of The Window", and "Yes I Guess They Oughta Name A Drink After You". RascalsFreedom Suite ... LP
Atlantic, 1969. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... $5.99
A double-length set from The Rascals – possibly their most stretched-out exploration of ideas, at least during their initial run for Atlantic Records! The 2LP set features a fair bit of shorter, catchier tunes on the first record – many with some righteous soul overtones – but on the second record, the group really open up – hitting some longer jamming tunes on side three, and moving into a 15 minute instrumental on side four! Vocals are great from all three singers – Gene Cornish, Eddie Brigati, and Felix Cavaliere – and the rhythms are rock-solid too, often augmented with a bit of Atlantic-styled backings by Arif Mardin, to further enforce the soulfulness of the set. Titles include the hit "People Got To Be Free", plus "American The Beautiful", "Any Dance'll Do", "A Ray Of Hope", "Look Around", "Boom", "Heaven", "Cute", "Baby I'm Blue", and "Adrian's Birthday". RascalsSee ... LP
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good ... $1.99
Harder rocking and almost deeper soul than before – and a tremendous evolution in the music of The Rascals – light years past the pop hits of a few years before! The group co-produced the album with Arif Mardin, and the sounds here are even more sophisticated than their Once Upon A Dream album – in modes that are sometimes rootsy rock, sometimes looser jamming, all woven together with the complexity of some of the hipper groups recording for Columbia Records at the time. The vocals are even more confident than before – as are some of the tunes in the set – and titles include "See", "I'd Like To Take You Home", "Remember Me", "Real Thing", "Away Away", "Carry Me Back", "Nubia", and "Temptation's Bout To Get Me". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the lyric insert. Cover has a cutout hole.)

Tonto's Expanding Head BandTonto's Expanding Head Band ... LP
Atlantic, 1975. Very Good+ ... $19.99
An analogue electronic classic – a huge crossover record from the early 70s, done with a pulsating, progressive sound that's a bit like the best early work by Tangerine Dream – but a fair bit tighter! Malcolm Cecil composed and performed the set – and it's a keyboard-heavy album with all electronic sounds – floating, flowing, and growing together in a nicely rough-edged studio mode. There's lots of dark machine sounds, bubbly pulsing bits, and a cold pre-Kraftwerk approach – and titles include "Cybernaut", "Jetsex", "Timewhys", "Riversong", and "Aurora". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cutout notch and light wear.)

YesFragile ... LP
Atlantic, 1972. Very Good- Gatefold ... $4.99
Classic! Fragile is the one that catapulted Yes to unlikely stardom, and in so doing, it brought adventurous, proggy rock to mainstream audience – pretty much changing the face of rock for at least a decade to come! Rick Wakeman's arrival and his spacier electronic keyboards have a lot to do with the Yes ascension, but beyond that that, the songs mix of anthemic, stadium-ready immenseness and trippier, oddball touches makes it a win for both pop/rock fans and prog lovers – win-win! Titles include "Roundabout", "Cans & Brahms", "We Have Heaven", "Mood For A Day", and "The Fish". LP, Vinyl record album
(Red and green label Rockefeller pressing. Cover has ring and edge wear.)

FeltPictorial Jackson Review ... LP
Creation/Cherry Red (UK), 1988. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $18.99
Pure genius from a group who kept on growing strongly over the relatively short span of their career – maybe under-sung heroes at the time of their release, at least on this side of the Atlantic – but one of the few truly classic groups we can think of from the decade, at least with a recorded legacy this strong! The songs are as creatively distinct as anything every put forth by Morrissey and The Smiths – but in a very unique sort of way, with the guidance of mainman Lawrence firmly guiding the sound with his vocals amidst the wonderful songswirl of Hammond organ and guitar. Titles include "Apple Boutique", "Ivory Past", "Until The Fools Get Wise", "Bitter End", "How Spook Got Her Man", "Christopher Street", "Under A Pale Light", and "Don't Die On My Doorstep". GreenGreen (Atco) ... LP
Atco, 1969. Very Good ... $19.99
A psychedelic gem recorded at Gold Star Studios at the end of the 60s – one that brings a fair bit of British influences into play with the trippier sounds of the American underground of the time! This Atlantic debut by the group shows a tremendous amount of promise – and an approach to the music that sometimes takes on loftier ambitions through its use of bit of brass and reeds amidst the core keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums of the tunes. The songs are tight and sharp, but have some nice flourishes too – almost in the later Chad & Jeremy mode, with a real "British through LA" sort of sound. Titles include "RCMPB", "Don't", "Have You Ever", "To Be", "Sunrise #7", "Sparkle", and "Just Try". LP, Vinyl record album

Bert JanschBert Jansch ... LP
Transatlantic/Superior Viaduct, 1965. New Copy (reissue)... $19.99
Mindblowing music – an album of simple structure, but incredible power – and a record that prefaces so many other sounds to come! The set just features the young Bert Jansch on vocals and guitar – years before his presence in Pentangle – but working with such a complex array of influences and elements that we could spend pages just trying to unpack all that's going on in his work! Yet he also delivers the whole thing with an amazingly understated quality – one that's easygoing, open-handed, and completely un-self-conscious of its genius – so that the whole thing hardly telegraphs its interweaving of jazz, blues, and folk – its sense of ancient and modern – and the way that it can touch so many different scenes at once. Titles include "Needle Of Death", "Smokey River", "Finches", "I Have No Time", "Strolling Down The Highway", "Do You Hear Me Now", "Casbah", and "Alice's Wonderland". Bert JanschIt Don't Bother Me ... LP
Transatlantic/Superior Viaduct, 1965. New Copy (reissue)... $19.99
Continuing genius from the great Bert Jansch – the singer/songwriter's second album, and one of his most sublime records ever! The album's got an up-close, personal vibe – mostly just Bert's vocals and acoustic guitar, a bit like the earliest albums by Bob Dylan – and like Dylan, Jansch has this approach that's completely his own – very much schooled in older 20th century traditions, but focused on finding a new way forward – with a mix of melodic and harmonic elements that flow from his guitar with effortless ease, and are matched by some beautifully pointed vocals by a singer who sounds unlike anyone else. At times, the tunes have a quality that's almost hypnotic – a bit of a John Fahey vibe in the progressions, but a bit warmer – and titles include "Tinker's Blues", "It Don't Bother Me", "Harvest Your Thoughts Of Love", "Lucky Thirteen", "As The Day Grows Longer Now", "So Long", "900 Miles", and "Ring A Ding Blues". Bert JanschJack Orion ... LP
Transatlantic/Superior Viaduct, 1966. New Copy (reissue)... $19.99 24.98
A huge leap forward for the mighty Bert Jansch – and a record that's somehow even more amazing than the ones that came before! Bert's maybe even more introspective here, but also on a personal journey that takes him down musical paths that seem broader than before – almost echoing a wider range of influences on his guitar performance, yet in a way that still comes across with a uniquely pointed vibe. There's some occasional shift in the instrumentation, too – as Jansch plays banjo on the leadoff track, but with the same chilling currents as his sublime acoustic guitar – and John Renbourn joins on second guitar for a number of tracks, prefacing the pair's collaboration to come. And as with all of Jansch's genius material at this point, there's a quality that's both ancient and modern, timeless and uniquely tied to its moment – flowering beautifully on tunes that include "Jack Orion", "The Waggoner's Lad", "Nottamun Town", "Black Water Side", "Pretty Polly", and "The Gardner".
